So I Finally Tried My Black Knights Out Of Boredom....

Seriously....what do people see in this mech? (OK, in laser vomit in general).
It's not that it was bad, so much, as it was just....boring. Vanilla.
And we aren't talking Ben and Jerry's Vanilla Bean, or even Breyers Vanilla.
Naw...this thing is like that cheap Vanilla Ice Milk you buy by the huge 5 gallon tub for birthday parties full of 5 year olds in a poor neighborhood. But at least there you can have a red plastic cup of kool aid with it to add SOME flavor.
The Grasshopper has some JJs to give it SOME utility (and double high hardpoints on one model).... but poor old Martin Lawrence here.... he just.....can't....stand out and shine.
Mediocre hitboxes (not bad, just not great) mediocre speed and mobility, mediocre firepower, terrible heat efficiency and terrible build versatility. Seriously, the compromise seems to be a bunch of MPLs and the biggest engine possible..... but a heavy with a 220 meter optimal range? RLY?!?!?!?
IDK. Maybe I am missing something, but I certainly don't sweat them when they are on the other team (I usually just core them out, since they are alway sin heat shutdown, anyhow)... and after driving them, I feel even less inclined.
Is there some Black Knight guru who has unlocked the secret of this mech that could give some input?

I seriously doubt anyone actually buys them outside of those who got them with the bundle; the concept of leveling 3 effectively identical mechs with almost no interesting loadouts is enough to make me sick. At least the Grasshoppers have jumpjets and can mount a small missile launcher.

if I want a 75 ton heavy I'll play Orion or Timber, but if I want a half usable I.S heavy its the Grasshopper, or Cataphract

A: They think it looks cool.
B: Nostalgia.
A lot players fall prey to Nostalgia, thinking a mech is going to be better than it will be - simply because they are fond of it.
Or, alternatively, they continue to think it's better than it really is due to the same reason.

Well Ultimatum, it's pretty rare that we can agree on things, but this is one of them.
That being said I'd rather play a chassis or load out I find fun, rather than try to stick with the 8 or so meta approved chassis in this game.

I'm as nostalgia driven as it gets.... which we lock horns over, frequently.
But what kills me, is people assumed it would be based off the MW4 version, when literally NOTHING in this game was based off the MW4 versions....
and anyone who actually knew anything about the originals, knew it would be mediocre, at best.

Then again, PGI happened.

Kind of how I'm looking at the Warhammer, I know she's going to suffer in MWO, likely due to hit boxes, poor cooling and low hard points... But its not going to stop me from running a WHM-6Rb!

Mastered all because they came with mauler pack...and I need to do something while playing.
We knew it was going to be mediocre but PGI put its special derp flavor: hip hardpoints.
So the boring laserboat is going to be even more boring
For me it's the worst resist2 mech.

and that goes back to my point...the MW4 Black Knight was not canon, and was never the BK we were goign to get. Tried to point that out to people, but I guess hope sprung eternal.

Without, the ErLL still only give about 7 m to Clan ErLL IIRC. Nothing spectacular but the mech is as fun as any other laserboat for me.... which is to say mildly so. It's a capable machine if you avoid hill humping with it for obvious reasons.

So...
Yeah...
Oh! It's really good at shooting the tops off of mountains thanks to it's low slung hard points! So, there's that.
Even after CT fixes, feels like every shot lands there even when twisting.

It's like a lighter Wubshee or faster XLable 5SS.

I mean, they're not THAT bad, (one of my best stat-wise mechs is a Cataphract 0XP which i usually run with 2xPPCs in one arm and 2xMPLs in another)
Also you could use flamers, if you're feeling fabulous and don't feel like being useful.

3 PPC
huge XL
At least, 10 additional DHS, I stipped leg armor(because lol if you get legged in a Black Knight) and fit, I think, 22 total DHS
Now you can chainfire PPC at least as good as an Awesome 8Q, maybe better, and you are much faster, and prolly, honestly, just as durable.
it's not meta, it isn't even really all that great, but damn it is fun ripping a half dozen ppc shots down range using chainfire.
Tryhards will laugh and say it isn't point and click so you should run 9 MPL or something. But you know, like you, point and click got boring really fast for me. So I mixed it up on the variants, and lolPPC was one of the loadouts that made the mech "not boring" for me.

Like this one?
(.....but it's a lie!
The true MWP was that Enforcer-5P.....I just followed him and stole all his kills, except one
And, yes, Enforcer is far more fun than the trash knight)
