I think without an IP, if they wanted to do a mech game they'd have actually had to develop it because they wouldn't have gotten any of the the nostalgia buy-ins.

For me the IP really doesn't matter, it may have or in the future make a difference if they actually do something to utilize the reasons the IP's predecessors gained such a following - until then its just mechs without much of a game to support the cost of licensing the franchise. Like I said they could just as easily have made their own versions of the mechs with different names and had the same product without a lot of the overhead.

for you maybe but for 90% of everyone else the only reason to get in was the IP.

double the armor and internal structure. light mechs are getting a radar boost so we will be spotted from 1.5km+ away now. make advanced zoom actually advanced and not a blowup of that section of the screen in full blurry detail. Change the maps to stop the nascar effect. Add ghost heat at half the required number of lasers 1 large, 2 medium, 3 small to limit the laserboat phenomena. nerf the hell out of ECM. It was bad back when it came out now its REALLY REALLY REALLY bad with all the additional ECM'ed mechs running around. Fix the idiotic chat system both in game and in the front end. Return the damn gauss to its full glory.

I think IS XL should tolerate a loss of one side torso as long as you have the cooling capacity to negate that loss or the XL is above a certain rating

Once they got greedy and lost their identity, it all went downhill.

The rest are just symptoms.

Pretty much this. They had forsaken us, the masses which plunked down money as Founders... those of us who wanted a true battletech experience.

Literally, as was said, everything that has come after, every stupid choice, has been due to this single move.

It's head of design.

Everything stems from his decisions, and the collective number of flaws people commonly attribute to the game from those are innumerable at this point.

(Flame suit on)

The game needs Steam, period. The only real 'complaints' I've heard about it going to Steam would be the community. News flash: every online gaming community is roughly the same, the only difference is how many people are exposed to it.

In fact, I personally believe the Steam community is one of the best I've seen. It's like saying the USA is filled with psychopaths and serial killers, but people forget they have one of the largest western populations. People are constantly writing guides to help new players, which would be a godsend for the terrible tutorials we get here. People love throwing money at meaningless things on Steam, example being I haven't paid for a game in the last 5 years because of how people throw money at cards, skins, and stickers.

The people you don't want around aren't going to stay around for long, it's not as if the game was immune to 'trolls' or people who don't care to understand the game mechanics; it just wasn't advertised very well for anyone not familiar with BT. I would love to see better Q times, and more people who are 'good' at gaming. Sadly, what the elitists think is some fantastic community that understands BT in and out is absolutely terrible. I took a break for 2 years, came back, first 3 matches all above 500 dmg and one was 1000dmg. With a brawler.

I wish I could say more money coming in would fix the glaring 60$ mech pack problem, but something tells me PGI is just going to double the price when they see the potential.

This by a long shot...

What this game needs for real advancement is income and exposure, which Steam would bring without question. Sure there would be lots of undesirables, but they would pass on to other games soon enough.

I only mentioned it but the main factor that has killed this game is the absolute stubborn greed of whoever is pulling the strings at the top. To be fair and completely logical about it, they have the dumbest person handling the marketing I've ever seen.

This game, being the only real BT game to play, could be rolling in millions of dollars without batting an eye. Instead, they decide to take away any customization option and charge insane amounts to acquire any of them. The amount of things completely locked away by real cash purchases is stunning, and it blows my mind that this forum isn't ridden with people in outrage about this.

Even more stunning, is apparently this is working somehow or they would have done something to change it. $20-50 for a champ/hero mech, it really makes me laugh hysterically. The endless grind for a single mech, which in turn is a joke as to compete later on you will have to buy 3 of the same type just to master one.

I would pay a monthly fee for this game, I would drop $60 up front without question. I will not be nickle and dimed for something that is an inherent right of a gamer; individuality. Companies have started to take advantage of this as it's a psychological condition. As human beings we have a desire to stand out and be unique, and they've completely shut that part out basically forcing people to go ahead and pay into their scam. You don't have to take my word for it, do a little research on how the human mind functions.

Thankfully I have a thought process going on upstairs (most of the time anyway) and I can see through the ******** and attempt to enjoy the game for what it is. So I'll sit here in my puke green mechs or one of the 3 fantastic colors you get to choose from praying that a competent developer takes over one day.

I would honestly be embarrassed to be associated with a company as greedy as this.

@DeadEye COTP

How many people have you convinced to try out the game?
How many stayed with the game after learning its "quirks"?
Of those people, how many were not already BT or Mech fans?

I do not think steam will help the game one bit because the casual gamer will not even try it. The Mech fan will try it and hate it, and even those that like it probably will not stay with it. Odds are everyone here is here because the are fans of the franchise and even their patience is wearing thin.

Biggest flaw was forcing players to play absolutely mediocre or even bad maps for such a long time.

I am laughing my pretty ass off each time the voting screen shows up and EXACTLY those maps that are good are being chosen each and every time. And almost NOBODY wants to play the bad maps. Nobody.

And yet the countless times I cried like a little baby in the past, whining and demanding a vote system so we dont have to play the bad maps this entire forum disagreed. Literally everybody disagreed. Naming all kinds of reasons, giving thousands of reasons why that is such a bad idea. All those guys here that post 100 posts every day were so adamant and knew exactly why voting would be bad and why nobody even wants to influence map choice.

And now look hahaha. Just look. Everybody chooses the good maps.

Nobdoychooses the bad maps.

I was right afterall. This is so satisfying I cant even begin to express how satisfying.

So many of you were so worried about specific loadouts which would be chosen for some maps.

And the devs did a voting system anyway.

It's kinda funny how little heed the devs pay to what this forum demands. Even if it is such a huge portion of the forum. I mean....everybody here was against a voting system.

I actually think I was the only person ever....to continously demand a voting system.

That's no joke. Check the archive if you dont believe it.

That's complete conjecture. First, you're assuming Steam is only casual players. You are so far off the mark it makes my head hurt. Steam is the leading platform for all things gaming concerned, there is no logical argument you could make against that point. People will try literally any game you throw up on the store, and more will follow based on reviews.

I'll even provide proof, because I'm just a reasonable guy like that: WarZ/Infestation created a vaporware game, lied and stole from anyone who was dumb enough to pay into it, abandoned the game, made a new one with the same engine and assets but a different map. Oh, and Steam actually had it removed from the store at one point for blatant copyright infringement as well as outright lies as to what the game actually contained. - it still has 1000+ people playing daily.

It hosts the TOP games currently being played around the world competitively. DOTA 2, and CSGO. (There are many more, but those have millions of unique daily logins) Neither of those games had some major following previously, in fact they were identical in terms of community to the BT community. They are niche games that only appealed to certain people at one point in time.

I just had all of my gaming buddies download this, one had played BT games previously. Everyone else is enjoying it for what it is. Thankfully I'm sugar coating how desperately greedy this company is so we can play for a few days before all the good games start releasing.

The only thing that is going to hurt this game on Steam is the disgusting MACRO transaction issue; they are going to get eaten alive for it there. Steam is a fantastic community, and people actually go out of their way to inform you of everything good or bad about a game, as well as creating in-depth guides down to the smallest detail.

In terms of functionality, there is no glaring issue present in this game that would give it a negative review unless you were already a hardcore BT fan into all the lore and how everything is actually supposed to work.

I doubt that's the actual case.

People need to take a serious look @ the history of PGI, and then actually need to be realistic.

Sure, you can argue that PGI can bite more than they can chew, but considering technically that MWO is the pinnacle of past mediocrity (and that's being nice on my part)... the people at the top think what they're producing is "more than enough" when clear past (MWO) examples show otherwise.

What PGI has done consistently is "turn in homework" and is satisfied at getting a D or even a C on it, and that's essentially what CW and other components of the game (UI 2.0 in its infancy, gamemodes, "pebbles of steel", etc.) have been. Not only that we still have remnants of the past (mech skills tree, Assault, even the mini-screens), but we're reminded of how bad some things still are (chat, social tab, website showing "Conquest" as the only game mode, etc.)

If you're expecting "minimally viable", PGI has succeeded. If you're expecting "more than just the same poop, different day", you can expect just as much next week... let alone next year... and certainly between 60 and 90 days.

I would be willing to bet you sugar coated a lot more than that and it will be interesting to see how long they stay with the game.

Also, of course that was conjecture, this is the internet, and a video game forum at that, you should expect nothing less.

In over three years 20-21, All have left. Most after being slaughtered endlessly while grinding. They always hope that 6 mil cbills with give them the edge to survive but they learn and leave.
If you cannot hold new players and get them interested in investing real cash it's pretty hopeless. All of them loved the concept but not the execution.

Also have an extensive freinds list which most are gone. I rarely see anyone up on my list now. Those are guys who went for it. Bought stuff and just gave up over time.

Only thing that keeps me here is tenacity. Comes in handy alone and hundreds of miles out to sea but in this instance Its almost torture. I will probally ride this pony till it drops. Sad.
