Vote in the new Maps Poll to keep track of maps seen most and least.

Honest question.

Why is this a problem?

People play what they enjoy.

spot on man for real.... it seems like common sense but that has left the building apparently in lieu of stupid whine hards screaming for a communist type balance of everything.... I'M SORRY BUT i POSSES SOME MODICUM OF SKILL AND I DON'T WANT BALANCE..... HARD TO GRASP AIN'T IT. skill should be the only balance

I don't like your solution here's mine. Hows about they take the maps that people don't want to play and give a mission bonus or whatever you want to call it for playing on them. This would mean the least picked maps get something like an 80k cbill bonus for playing them. It is harder to play on therefore people don't want to play on them. The maps that are easier to play on like Frozen city and HPG Manifold would have no cbill bonus because they are easier to play on. By easier I mean there is a higher heat dissipation on the colder maps. Just an idea I had.

I'm with bandito on this one too - I never used to mind the old Caustic despite the heat, but this new one is a massive ballache and would continue to be so even if the temp was low.
No problems with Tourmaline either, love that map.
Mordor is about 50/50 for me, I'll choose it over Bog, or the new Forest.
Oh, and I'm not a fan of Alpine, despite it being cold.

But things like Bog, Forest (new)? ugh, hate it. Nothing to do with heat for me. But hate the poor visibility and clutter. Cover is great, short firing lines and built-up areas? Ace. Brawling? Hell, now you're talking!
But god, I hate having to play in heatmode for 80 to 90% of the time (I'm not exaggerating, nearly all my recorded videos of regular gameplay bear this out).

All they need to do is make those maps show up less in the voting process.

Why not make them so people want to play them, rather than foisting them upon us though?

I mean, if people are clearly not voting for certain maps, then the answer is obvious; Make them so people do want to play them.
Making it so it's harder to find a good map is a bad idea - makes people want to find a different game that happens to have good maps.

Then pray tell, why did Tourmaline Desert ended up to be the most popular map that I dropped into yesterday? It is even hotter than Terra Therma!

Checkmate. Mate.

I dont know what game you have been playing the last 2 days, the game I have been playing is MWO.
I have seen Space Snow and Canyons almost exclusively since the change to votes

well we all know PGI's strengths, so now the meta has progressed to frozen map skirmish how do we all think they're going to fix it ???

i can see 2 possible solutions

1 - they will fix the other (x) maps so they aren't so suck balz

2 - they will delete the frozen maps

easy to see which option i think they will take :P

Maybe they could just add "weather" versions of certain maps - so you get "xxx city" but the weather is an unknown - might be frozen, might be summer, whatever? They could re-use a lot of geometry and only worry about texturing and environmental variables. Just spitballin'

Maybe they will switch to a random system where your vote is a weighting ... everything starts with 1 weight ... every vote adds one and then game mode and map are randomly decided.

Keep the two modes and four maps format but add the random factor. That way everyone will at least occasionally get the map and mode they vote for.

think about it people......

Russ gave a great example of his feeling on it in a twitter post recently, something about conquest and it already has a c-bill bonus, and are people aware of it ??? the whole extra 30k is working as a great incentive right now for it........ your lucky if conquest pops 1 out of 20 matches on average.

so when it comes to incentives on maps :

1 - i doubt it would change the current mindset away from what is the easy option for most

2 - Any incentive that would be enough to bring the maps back to a cycle of some sort, would have to be massive, and its not going to happen from PGI's standpoint due to it decreasing the grind, and thus creating an imbalance that would also affect the "macro-transaction" bottom line.

At best we could hope for a c-bill penalty for easy maps, but i still don't think the mindless masses are going to go for the max c-bill still, its just not fitting to the meta were now in.

landing on cold mostly open maps reduces skill required to play the game, i fail to see how that translates into requiring more skill, all its done is nigh on remove or at least reduce the onus on players to have done a decent mech loadout that takes into account the possibility of landing on a hot map.

all we have now is further concreting of the laser vomit alpha meta the game has become.

we could go the other way with it, lets just remove all non-laser weapons, make only cold maps avail for vote, drop conquest and assault modes, and what would we have ???
