so i did some math and worked out how much i spend on games each year, for the last 10 years.

it is myself and my wife, my kiddies play cheap tablet / console games, and i do try to restrain myself to some degree, but yeah, i spend about 2k a year on my addiction. and thats a conservative figure. I don't even want to think about how much of it was on MW:O......

so how much do you all spend on games roughly each year ???

Note for PGI : this is all money you will miss out on, now and for the future :D

About $1600+ invested in MWO for me... Years of fun and the PGI servers show no sign of being shut down anytime soon. Great value for my gaming dollar thus far.

So far it looks like I spend about 50 a year. It's all been on MWO.

Or looked at a different way, .03 cents a drop.

I bought a lot of things too but things have been tight the last year so no purchases.

I don't know how much I spent, but my currency isn't exactly strong against the dollar. My $240 clam collection is the equivalent of 94 kilograms of fresh chicken where I live, 2/3s my monthly rent, or roughly 1/2 my monthly takehome pay from my last job.

Now if I add up all the packs, mechs and MC I bought... for this account and the two others I spent on... well... that's a lot of chicken.

I can only assume that they have a proper data analyst tracking things like what modes/maps their largest paying customers like to play and cross reference it with play time, unit participation, etc so that they can make informed decisions about features that can affect the bottom line.

With something like that in place, they can easily track how much $$$ each mode was worth in terms of paying player preference.

I spend about $200 per year--mostly on multiplayer only games. Single player games all come free, bless Kickass.

Except Borderlands 2, and Shogun 2. Those games were many times worth the money I spent.

Every year people spend upwards of 1k or more for cable television access that basically boils down to them paying a company to show them advertising for other companies 70% of the time you use their service.

I mean if you are trying to start a discussion on futile ways to waste your money.

in a whole year I spent $50 bucks on online games.

I have yet to spend anything on MWO though. Because if you want change why give them money and feed their bad behaviors ?

How much I spend on games? Too much. I don't have a figure but 1500€ might be a fair estimate.
I rarely buy a game which fails to be worth the money. The way I see it if I pay for example 30€ on a game. I need to get about 10h from that game for it to be worth it. That way it would still be considerably cheaper than playing pool at a local pool hall or bowling.

I've bought every mech pack which has come out since Clan wave 1 and I think that mechwarrior online has been easily worth the money. It's not the even close to being the most cost effective game I've bought full price or put money into (if free to play). That prize goes to Mount & Blade: Warband and it's dlc Napoleonic wars.

This.

I've averaged $80 a month on MWO for three years, coming in at just under $3k as of today. And I also feel done. Not angry, not ranting, none of that. It's been a good run. I'm just yawning a bit now. If they can find a way to make CW consistently fun, then I'll be around a bit longer I think. When CW is good, it's the best thing in the game. Sadly, that's rare. Even so, I don't regret a cent.

And yeah, like you, even though I'm winding down, it's real hard to resist the unseens when those are the mechs that got me here in the first place (30 years ago). I don't even like playing heavies because of the queue times, but I bought the Warhammer and Marauder packs anyway. What the hell is that?

I spent maybe a total of $260+/- on (steam games on sale) ever since I switched over to PC from xbox about 2 years ago but none of it was on MWO, I only spend money on singleplay games now since I've been burned one too many times in the past on Mutiplay game from severs shutting down and other nonsense.

But my total gaming cost from the first xbox to the 360 maybe around $8000 and even to this day I still play alot of those old games.

Aahh the good old days when I used to get drunk and LAN party with my friends in a game of Halo1, 2 and 3. It's too bad people don't do stuff like that anymore. :(

I know what you mean, but by some miracle I have held off on buying any of the unseens... untill the Archer comes out next, then I'll go for $55 and get the complete Archer set.

Thats just crazy....

You might as well have just lit that money on fire. I promise you ive gotten as many mechs as you and had just as much fun and never spent a dime.

Its your money, but ... damn that just blows my mind. I guess if its "your hobby" then its worth it, ive surely dumped that much money into things I enjoy, just not a Free to Play video game. Im not knocking anyone, its just completely out of my realm of understanding.

I will spend money on a good product. I wasted almost a grand on MWO alone but if the game was good I woulda spend much more. Glad I took the rose colored glasses off and saw PGI for what they, incompetent developers

Like if I could go shooting for free, but I just had to shoot guns more often than someone else to shoot the really cool guns, I think id say someone paying to shoot the cool guns immediately, is a fool.

Or if traveling, to travel for free I just had to travel more often and not maybe right to the places I wanted right away, or I could pay out the ass and travel straight to Machu Picchu without having to wait in lines or visit the Chichen Itza first...

Just sayin.

If youre absolutely filthy rich, it makes sense...otherwise...why wouldnt you take the slower route thats free, if youre going to spend the exact amount of time doing the "thing" anyways.

Ive been playing since just after CB...havent spent any money, ive got like 28 mechbays now, mastered almost every mech, unlocked almost every achievement, bought all the modules, unlocked all the modules, etc...it just took time that I was gonna spend playing the game anyways, and well, maybe skipping a few social events to really hammer the Events when theyre good.

But yeah...never bought anything, went from 4 mech bays to 28. I dont see why anyone would spend money unless youre really rich, and you hate waiting.

The grind is bad, but man, its not that bad that it motivates me spend the outrageous amounts of money you people seem to.

Id have to find my "I earned my 1% tag" post and bump it, but ive gotten for free, about 760 dollars worth of stuff, and that was before the last few events.

Something is wrong there...

I do appreciate you whales keepin their lights on however.

i stopped foolishly spending money on this game when it became apparent PGI was utterly incapable of core game balancing.
