I guess PGI wants to get in on the Steam Holiday Sale. It's good timing, insofar as that goes, and hopefully the initial rebalance update will suffice.
At least get the website updated and modernized. There are too many things missing or incomplete, basic things that new or prospective players expect to find.
I think that's next on the cards or at least not far off also perhaps the first step of the rebalance might come at the same time just to shake things up.

Or close the game up with our Founder dead.
- with apologies to the Scottish bard
Founders to right of them,
Founders to left of them,
Founders in front of them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with post and tweet,
Boldly they went instead,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Went the Piranha.
- with sincere apologies to Lord Tennyson
Yeah, this is my attempt at telling PGI that this move - while perhaps their only move, I do not know - is quite the gamble. In my opinion, the game is nowhere near ready for a Steam release; the Steam community isn't so gentle as us forum warriors here, and will in all likelihood saw the game off at the ankles.
But, the course is set; "full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes!". Hopefully they're as successful as admiral Farragut was, but I'm not convinced.

Let's hope the community grows with decent people, as most of the current players are.
But I certainly am more excited about CW phase 3 :-)

1. Steam users are not as friendly or dedicated as the MWO community - They will tear you a new *******.
2. With so many polished options available on steam (even tho not mech based) you will see a influx and a sharp drop quickly after release.
3. RIP

Who is in charge of the dinner menu? Wish I could slip you some cash to serve up only Cold Skirmish.
Paul: Bit stale, pass the sauce?
Chef: Nope, no sauce.
Tina: I had this for lunch today, can I skip to dessert?
Chief: Sure, here...
Tina: Uhm this dessert tastes a lot like Cold Skirmish
Russ: Ah, such a rich variety of food to sample here! The Cold Skirmish is delicious. And so is the Cold Skirmish.
But maybe we could spice things up a bit? Maybe some Diet Cold Skirmish instead?
Or perhaps some Cold Skirmish Lite?

Influx of founds would defiantly help to make this game even better!
P.S. Personal opinion - we will get even more pesky whiners, Steam community are mostly spoiled kids, trolls and what not, so yeah a happy moment... But also let's brace ourselves!

Yes the hackers will get worse, the cheaters, aimbotters, but hey, im guessing pgi plans on doing something about this before launching steam as well. Maybe a monitering system or another ban-wave, if nothing, we are all ******. The steam cheaters abundant. We already have enough CSJx, aimbotters, wallhackers and things like that that go un-noticed. Macro programs that arent detectable.
Can never make people happy, even if they refuse to quit the game. Hey, maybe all the negative comments are pretty much from people who dont play the **** anymore. It will get much better with a bigger population, but the good players will always ruin it for the bad ones, and the large groups of meta elites will always be douchebags and **** all over the new community and keep them away from the game. This is what happens when you take 4 years to launch. You have this well experience elite community that has a number of ******** in it, that plays the best loadouts and stomps all over people then **** talks them as they do it. Sprinkled with some cheaters, it ruins it for new players
This willl be the hardest thing for the game to over come.
THIS.
100% agree with you, a majority of the hardcore Battletech community are cultureless tryhards, and they have been bringing this game down since day one with their elitist attitude.
**** 'em.
Once we get a new injection of Steam players, this community might actually be worth something. The current one's only saving grace is that despite all the b****ing and cheating they won't leave. As consumers they are loyal, but as people they are despicable.

Haha, yea exactly man! Battletech tryhards are just self-entitled fanboys. The REAL hardcores will be dropping in starting December 10th.

Whether it be on the forums or in game using VOIP and chat, WE can chose to help out new players and hopefully gain a larger playerbase to keep the game alive and.... well you know? Have players to play against/with. Or we can choose to be trolls and numb nuts and make the experience as unpleasant as possible for these "upstart Steam noobs" and watch as the playerbase dwindles.
Personally, while being a little reserved, I am backing the move and if I'm around I will do my best to help and make the experience fun for the new players as well as myself. If we can introduce 1 in every 10 new player to the universe that MechWarrior us set in and they get hooked as deeply as many of us already are, then the IP has a future.
So lets make it as fun as possible with an eye to the future.

Is the game functioning? yes, to an extent but only then steam people will play, get this influx of new players which will be nice for a bit, then get stomped and alot of them drop it after a month. Of course the negative reviews will be most pleasant to read thus in turn deterring some new players from the game. Do what you will PGI, it'll bring in some cash but a reminder that the issues currently are blatantly obvious and dont be surprised when negativity happens.
I want to be optimistic but after playing since closed beta i can see the game's obvious flaws and its left me discouraged.

I always considered true veterans of this community to be a great friendly people, sometimes zealous to keep Battletech pure. But none of this elitist attitude with metas - those are just low life scrubs.
Real Battletech fan loves this universe to the bones, he don't need to be superior over others, just enjoys his stompy robots.

I wish that were the case, but I am not so naive for I have seen the other side of the Battletech community - self-entitled egotistical brats who throw a temper tantrum when a weapon is slightly different than its TT counterpart, or when the geometry of a mech is slightly different to the original (disgusting looking imo) models, or who flip the table anytime a Locust-1V scored a lucky ammo explosion on their Dire Wolf during a board match. There's really not a lot of good points to them, other than the IP that they worship as God that has nothing to do with them being a good community, they're just fanboys...

You have fun with the "screw the lore" ex-Hawken crowd then. When people like you get their wish and PGI completely throws out anything lore / TT related and then all of us old BATTLETECH fans leave and take our money with us, how will PGI survive with only "selling anything for money in a FTP game means it is not FTP" people left?
"Then the community will be worth a damn", LOFL, it would be nothing but people whining that every mech except the one that they are piloting is OP and that everything is too expensive compared the microtransactions in [insert name here] game.

Thanks for proving my point, but did I say anything about PGI throwing lore out the window? Nay, if they did that they wouldn't even have a game, the lore is what shapes the idea of the Battlemech. Without the lore this game might as well have been World of Walking Tanks. It is what makes this game unique.
The community has nothing to do with the lore however. They merely worship it, and look down on everyone else with contemptuous pity, and pad eachothers egos by sharing nostalgic stories of MechWarrior 2 or tabletop Battletech so they can pretend that they are part of a significant group. I can practically smell the elitism emanating from this forum. Smells rotten...

So anyone who disagrees with you is an "elitist"? Sounds very much like the SJW vs GamerGate discussions.
