"So uh, you play mechwarrior online huh?"
"Yeah."
"So uh, do you play a laser boat?"
"Yep."
"Cool, me too."

So.. we support you until you finally can launch on Steam and what do you do? You throw a party for yourself and 50 pals.
Bra....Fing.....vo.
How about RECOGNIZING that we, the players, got you where you are and stop rewarding yourself for our selfless support. Without us, you would just be another Daikatana.

Wow. Lack of gratitude much?
guess you missed the whole "Customer Appeciation" stuff about two months ago.

Personally, I think the rebalancing results of the PTS tests should be implemented before the Steam launch. Beyond that, congrats to whoever is going.

yeah.. except for the fact the balance pass hits BEFORE the Steam Release. plus Clan laserboat pilots tend to be morons at managing heat. its why the IS flattens you guys in close quarters, but loses at range. Clan mechs have crap heat efficiency as laserboats. sure, you might have capacity over us, but you don't cool down as fast.
fact is, i'm looking foward to the balance and quirk pass. IS did just fine kicking clan ass BEFORE quirks even existed. they were mostly just added so people would use certain other mechs (like the wolverine).
also, something to mention. there's really only two things the Clan weaponry had over the IS. Lasers were longer range, and all their tech is lighter. that's it. you hand IS Tech 2 stuff like IS LB-Xs, Ultras and SSRMs of all sizes, and you're going to notice very quickly they have a lot less of an advantage than they seem to at first glance. the IS UAC/10, once we get it, is likely to be one of the most commonly used and effective IS weapons in the game.

I was at the Closed Beta LAN party and participated in the first MWO tournament. Still got the Atlas teeshirt. I met Russ and Bryan; had a fun time. There*was* indeed a bunch of:
"So uh, you play mechwarrior online huh?"
"Yeah."
... stuff going on. Especially from those who got eliminated from the tourney early (like me) or who had to wait a long time before or after playing. I spent my time keeping amused... maybe because I'm easily amused...
I would love to attend this year, but like the Launch Party I can't attend due to home stuff. I hope those who can go will have a good time and their travels are safe :-)

Well, you'd be wrong on almost every point in that comment.
Goes to show how effective that tutorial is.

Unless anyone here thinks they'll patch on the 8th and 22nd?
Does anyone see this going well? I mean, if they can fix voting, get conquest back in as a game mode since it seems to have disappeared, if the rebalance (which seems to be headed towards a phased release) is good (or at least not bad), there is still the issue with CW.

i've played since closed beta, jackass. We did fine against clanners before quirks. granted it was like two months, but it still happened.
also, FYI... IS do currently murder Clanners in fights under 600m with coordinated teams. its your non-energy boats we have trouble with sometimes, but 80% of the time, your energyboats are going to panicfire lasers, then shut down and get shot up. fact is, in all honesty, the non-meta players are the good ones, they're actually a challenge to fight, not woefully predictable..

So have I.
You're delusional if you thought non-quirked IS mechs could compete Invasion Release Clams. Specifically, the God Tier. The Trash Tier was a better match, but still largely inferior (without any side having armour or weapon quirks).
That has to do with the balance, which is rubbish. Less rubbish than it once was, but it's still Death VS 20% less CT mounted heatsink effectiveness. Soon to be fully unlocked for Clam Battlemechs.
cSPLs are the best brawling weapon in the game, so your short range argument falls apart there. cLPL is among the best Mid range (isLPL also good, but shorter range), and the cGauss is straight up superior.

My advice as far as improvements between now and release:
- Add a mechanic to identify to the player when ghost heat activates in-game. Let's get to the root of why people call it ghost heat.
- Get the UI team to add one patch's worth of polish to existing pages, focusing on new user experience. For example, what's a clan mech? Clan XL? Bigger sign explaining how one unlocks Elite skills. What is a chassis? A variant? One-time modal pop-ups can help big-time.
- I strongly believe that the c-bill grind is still a bit steep and tends to weed out a lot of casual interest in this game in a way that other F2P games don't. I started playing League of Legends recently, and I found that game far easier (and fun) to get into on the content/economic level, but less forgiving in terms of personal performance in a team environment. If I didn't enjoy the MW IP, I would have lost interest as a new player long ago.

my point is more the fact that currently, 80% of clanners i've ran into use laser meta and can't manage heat worth crap.
and the weaponry stuff is straight from battletech, which is quite likely how weapons will get rebalanced.
IS won canonically for a reason, they fight wars. Clans only fight battles. level the playing field and they're screwed.

I don't remember having trouble fighting the Clan mechs pre-quirks... And I've never had problems fighting them since... o.o They've gotten a lot tougher since the UACs got their burst buffs... and I F*ing love my 3UAC5 3 ERML Cauldron Born <3 But the differences in tech are not insurmountable. Not by a long shot.

Killed them all with a Mauler, and a Battlemaster. and a Black Knight. and a Crab. also, Six Streak 6s is overkill for lights. four SSRM2s puts them down for the count just fine. ever seen a Streak crow try to take down anything ELSE with those? it's a one-trick pony. moment ECM no longer blocks locks it might get better, but then you guys'll have to deal with more accurate fire because we can actually SEE your weak sections now.
so in all honesty, all you guys calling this the "death of the game" just don't want to adapt because you actually LIKE how it currently is. deal with it.

likewise, not to mention it'll be a boon to smaller units who need fresh blood, and make them more likely to have 12mans.
win-win-win as they say. no one says that, except Sir Hammerlock.

So you say we like it how it is? ( please quote)
death of the game comes from the current balance and in-game economy from the a new player's viewpoint.
