I would rather they have waited 6 months before going to steam. While things are better than a year ago, I believe the game lacks the polish to keep the non-casual, that knows nothing to little of the BT universe, interested in the "long tern" for the game. The grind, w/o premium time, is kinda huge. The store needs some work, make the player feel GOOD about buying stuff (no lore text, no animation). I also don't want these new poeple to run into the whole laser/gauss meta and getting insta cored in the first few minutes of a match. And do you think the monetiztion model in this game is going to entice the casual with the prices that are up? Maybe the new mechs (which were nicely done), but the older stuff (read $500 gold mechs) is horrendously expensive.
I just have some serious concerns for the game I love. I'm hoping they can pull it off, but my experience with the video game industry tells me that if you launch a product before its ready then bad things will happen.
I do wish you the best of luck. Hopefully this will bring and KEEP a good flux of players.
I guess their is nothing else to say but... FULL STEAM AHEAD! XD

- Community warfare needs to be finished. Version 1, no beta.
- The game needs to be in a balanced state.
- Maps all need to be updated. The residual v1 maps you still have in the game will turns people away.
- Social features need to greatly improved.
- Skill tree needs to be updated and polished.
- The lobby experience needs to be improved.
- And Many More!
You know, there are plenty of games on Steam that aren't "Finished". Time will tell what that really means.

Personally, I think this will go somewhat like this...
X amount of new people think "Oh hey, what's this? Let's try it out" - get completely overwhelmed by the poor documention IN the game and very quickly either bored (or annoyed) about the fact of having to read up tons on the forum to learn about a good bunch of things.
The community players that have been here since closed beta, will enjoy shooting people obviously having no clue what they're doing (likely, not guranteed) and exactly those, through Steam newly gaine players, will very quickly realize that without
* proper documentation,
* a worthwhile IN-DEPTH tutorial,
* correct hit-detection and bug-fixing of long-time issues,
...they're going to be essentially cannonfodder until such time, where these long-standing issues finally get resolved in a way that the majority of new players can find their way around the game without being slandered (it'll happen...enough toxic people that let their frustration out on others), slaughtered (because...hey! Free kills!) and ultimately driven away.
Mechwarrior always was, is and will be a niche-game, played by people that are true fans for the most part. Casual gamers like you find a lot on Steam, don't have the frustration resistance displayed by many people here.
The above being said...I still hope it'll turn out well and help the game along, but I'm also honest and think it's not a good idea at the current state of the game. This product isn't in a finished stated where it just need expanding and polishing.

It's not that horrible guys. Also, saying that the game is still beta is ridiculous. Really, try playing some WoT or WarThunder. Bigger titles, less quality. Also, having a President who actually maintains a twitter account and responds to it is a luxury. Most of the time, you either "play the game as it is or **** off".
Help new players when they start pouring in and recruit them for your units. it will be fun.
There will be a lot of disconnecting, griefing, team damage and so on, that's for sure though

But what most of you are forgetting. You don't get second chances at a steam release. If the New player experience is bad, if the learning curve is too steep, if the balance is bad, the prices for mech packs too high, The new players will voice their opinion in the steam reviews. The bad taste and the bad reviews will stick.
I hear a lot of people saying that they are going to be happy with the influx of new players because of this steam release. But how long can MWO keeps these players before they are frustrated by: the grind, the price of clan mechs, the lack of game modes, the balance etc?
And the timing seems very bad (not only that it's too soon), it's very near to the start of the steam sale (around 18th of December). most people are gonna keep their money in their pocket until the steam sale. Who is gonna buy a $30 mech pack when 1 week later you can buy 3 triple A games from 2014 for the same money

FTP games that are not new releases(and have been around in some form outside of Steam) tend to do very well once the player base migrates. Some PC gamers never leave the comfort of their Steam library, and watch those steamcharts like a hawk.. so this is an opportunity for the game to grow. If we can get lets say 10k people playing on launch day, it will crack the top 25 and people will notice. So to the elders, founders and lore fanatics.. Get ready to do some teaching.. gonna be a mess of new pilots!
Edit/TL;DR: I'm an avid "steamer" .. This is huge step in expanding the player base. There are a lot of really BAD games on Steam and this won't be one of them.

The game could be better, a lot better, but the milk has been spilled and no amount of bitter/salty tears will put it back. Suck it up and make the best of it. Not all gamers are lily livered whiners that give up after the first try. Some people deserve more credit than this forum is willing to give. Either that or they are just as desperate as those moaning about but still playing for whatever reason.

The game is fully functional, We've got some awesome maps now and the combat is good (even most complainers admit to that). It's fine for a steam release. If you guys think getting a bad review rating is going to 'destroy the game' then you are wrong. It probably will get a terrible rating but it doesnt really matter (and most f2p's do) - all that matters is that it's gonna get more players involved.
Good luck all, it's going to be rocky, but in the end its a good thing.
