Should Mwo Be Subscription Based?

What I've noticed working in small business is consistent income is far better than spike income when it comes to daily operation of a company. As an incentive it could give a slight cbill bonus or access to exclusive things. I don't know about the rest of you but my wallet could handle a small monthly fee over 60-240 dollar mech packs every month. Also with a constant income they could finely expand and get more programmers so things can finely get fix. Example cockpit screens.

I play a game that is subscription based but we still pay for content.

Is the content cheaper for being subscribed? I did say they may drop the price for things some. Right now they want micro transactions but the prices aren't micro at all. I realize that since it's not a physical object pricing is harder to do, but doesn't mean the customer has to be gouged to make a profit.

Game is not that good that I would subscribe a monthly fee.
Broken things since beginning that have not been fixed show me that main interest is cash so this would make me not want to pay for broken.
Lack of maps and good modes are not worthy of subscription.

I think this would knock a bit of the grind on the head and you could paint your 'free' mech.

If people aren't willing to pay a subscription to a game like Star Wars the Old Republic, which had a myriad of planets you could adventure on, and 8 distinct classes with stories for all of them with good pvp to start.
Then there is zero chance people will pay for arena death match 101 ...
I could get that fix in any shooter ever made.

Combine that with the fact that they never developed the game up to this point, and most players would just look at them with the WTF face.

I find that so long as I maintain a good average income and keep enough dosh in the bank to cover the low months it doesn't matter much either way.
Still, I wouldn't mind a freemium model along the lines of DDO where premium gives you access to everything, some MC, extra earnings etc, but you can buy/earn individual bits of content as a non-premium player.

Your version takes out the choices to get stability, however the online market has pretty resoundingly rejetted the sub model for micro transactions.
Tl;Dr
Your business is too different from this business. Sub bad micro transactions good.

if they started charging for logging in the game would finally kick the bucket
i'd like to see your wait times then

For one, if people dont play more then once a week they wont bother with sub's, also if they dont plan on spending money on the game the sub model just turns them off immediately. I paid for FF online sub model and only lasted about 2 months, game wasnt that much worth paying for and the sub model still wanted micro transactions for cosmetics and such so that part never left even with the sub model in place.
f2p as bad as it can be is still better then subscription based stuff unless you really have a decent game to sell your customers. Look at Star Wars (like Stelar stated) game as leaps and bounds more developed then this one and they couldn't maintain the sub model either.... Minimally viable products cant be charged for and PGI knows its.
I suggest anyone who thinks SUB models are the way to go takes a look into a little flop called WILDSTAR....they just re released the game and made it FREE TO PLAY!

Last time i checked, MWO needed 10 times more player population, meaning that they should give out more prizes and freebies to attract people.
going subscription-based is for games that already HAVE a large population.!

Asking for any more subscriber rewards than auto-premium time is unrealistic.

What they should consider is a subscription (or Premium time if you insist) that offers a heck of a lot more than it does currently.
It should include;
- private matches
- private match settings adjustability (tonnage, stock, weapon limits, etc)
- c-bill bonus
- XP bonus
- GXP bonus
- 30-50% discount on MC prices for anything
- perhaps free paints.
Keep the FTP model, spice up the Sub option to make it desirable without becoming PTW.

Unless they offer a subscription in addition to being F2P, in which case it would be a good idea. Planetside 2 already has a decent system for this where your monthly payment goes toward not only the premium time for resource/XP boosts, but also gives a monthly stipend of the game's credits to use toward gun/camo/etc purchases. This is the only option for MWO that would make sense and come out well.
