Is this because I have never purchased anything? Is there some sort "Wall" I will never get past?

No, you simply are either lacking in the ability to build mechs effectively or have poor piloting skills. Probably more on the skills side since just about any weapons loadout can do decent damage given the pilot is good.

No premium time or anything? I have not paid anything. Now I am not a Everyday player, but I have played a ton in the last month. No movement.

Nope. You can play the entire game without paying and go up in tiers. What it really boils down to is how well you played.
Please let us know how your average game goes to get a better picture of what you are faceing and your mech and it's build.

Yea he's spent 0$ on that account... have a look after each match and see what the Tier indicator says.
I think it takes awhile to go up a Tier

eeerr... ok.
Nope, tier has nothing to do with money. Especially that it would mean you would pay for loose (the lower the tier, (4,3,2,1) the better players you play with are). Other than matchmaking, PSR doesn't have an influence on anything. I know people who could pay for being allowed into tier V.
You had it bad few first games (as almost anyone), and you've got set at tier 5. First few games are crutial in deciding where your starting point will be. Not long ago one veteran 'tested' the system by making an alt account. After obliterating half the enemy team in his first match, he was sent to tier 3.
Don't worry about it, tier 5 is a laid-back place, good to level up first few mechs and learn the basics. It's not that easy to get out of it though, sadly.
To get that PSR bar filled, not emptied, you need about at least 200dmg on a win (to get more than a minimal raise on every win) and over 400 on a loose as often as possible (around that damage you don't loose PSR on the loose). Also, the PSR is designed a bit like an xp bar (on average, you get A BIT more from wins than you loose from lost games).

- The game has been kind'a rough for those without modals for a while now
- Finding a team of your own tier is impossible, and playing with "betters" is about as fun as a Commando in a minefield
- Premium Time helps you outfit and level units, buy modals, and afford the essential UAV; This is not a direct link, but it is a link

I liked Tier 4. I had a lot more matches where I carried. It was seriously like 40-50% of the time. Now its down to like 5-10% I can super carry and if its a good match I'm in the top 25% for damage.
