And from the sounds of it he's going to be in the underhive a long long time.

Try dropping in a server alone. See how is that gonna work for you.

Also... without those "Froobs"... guess who is gonna be the new tier 5?

To rise in PSR, you need to:
  • win the match
  • do decently
You can see a green arrow pointing up in the match score at the end of a match if you are rising in PSR.
There are 2 possibilities: either you are not winning enough to rise, or you have encountered a bug.
$$$ spent has no direct influence on your PSR or ability to climb tiers.

And?

What about his buddies who might drop some $$, if it weren't for him going and telling them "don't bother, it's full of pretentious ass clowns."

We need players, free or no. So yes they are helping us.. You should seriously think about canning the holier than thou BS and welcoming everyone. The more the merrier in this game.

Punish, feel free to add/msg me and I can try to give you some pointers. I'm not the best but I'm happy to help.

Taking a video of your gameplay can be a good place to start.

I suggest you install a recorder and post your matches so we can see your performance. I know several people who don't invest any money in this game and excel all the same.

No, you simply are either lacking in the ability to build mechs effectively or have poor piloting skills. Probably more on the skills side since just about any weapons loadout can do decent damage given the pilot is good.

I'd also suggest checking out other people's mech builds and some livestreamers. Even if you can't catch a livestreamer while live, you can always look over their past broadcasts. I'd check out twitch.tv/ngngtv (No Guts No Galaxy, their streamers range from mediocre to very good and have their own channels as well). There are several non-NGNG streamers, but the first one that I can think of is WatcherRat. (I stream as well, but I'm pretty mediocre, Watcher is overall better than I am).

One of the guys that hangs out on my livestream has been getting good results from a 6xMG/ERPPC Shadowcat.

Along the lines of what Escef said, you can look at my gameplay vids on Youtube at your leisure.

I thought it was a troll attempt to imply that people payed for their ranks.

I didn't honestly believe someone actually thought that their performance rating was based on having spent money or not.

Is there any game out in this world that gives you a better tier based on how much money you've spent? Any at all?

I have had shockingly good luck with this build...

It's like my 2xGauss TBR or my 2xAC20 XL King Crab...I seem to do well with bad ideas.

As others have already said, your Tier has nothing to do with how much you've spent (or even if you've spent anything at all).

Furthermore, there's no reason to move up in Tier. It is not a skill rating... it's sort of a combo skill/experience rating. The only purpose it serves is to (allegedly) help the matchmaker make more balanced games. Though there's considerable debate as to whether or not it's doing that any better than the old system that it replaced.

But... if you really want to increase your Tier, you need to regularly reach a match score of 250 and pretty much never fall below a match score of 100. Then you need to win games roughly as often as you lose. (In theory that's not supposed to be hard, as the matchmaker tries to give you a 50/50 chance to win in any given match.)

If you can manage a match score of 400 regularly, then it doesn't matter if you win or lose - your Tier is going to rise whether you want it to or not. But that's pretty hard to do in a loss unless you're dishing out a ton of damage - basically 700-800.

People have had success with DapperJager builds for a long time. They're kind of silly, but they can get results.

Cash spent or not has zero bearing on your Tier/PSR.

With the new PSR system:

If a players' team wins, and the player did well during the match (achieving a high Match Score), the player will rise in skill rating.
If a players' team wins, but the player did not perform well (achieving a low Match Score), the player will not move in terms of skill rating.

If a players' team loses, but the player does exceptionally well (achieving a very high Match Score), the player will go up slightly in skill rating.
If a players' team loses, but the player performed well (achieving a high Match Score), the player will not move in skill rating.
If the players' team loses, and the player performed poorly (achieving a low Match Score), they will drop in skill rating.

So, you want a high match score, win or loose.

Everything that grants you c-bills or XP in game works toward your Match Score. Half of the damage you have done is 50% of your score the other half comes from how well you do as a teammate.

Do damage and be a good team player and you will go up over time. More you play the better you get. The better you get the higher the match score will be. Higher the score the faster you will climb.

I've had an account for a couple weeks, and I'm still tier 5 and the tier bar (if that's what it is, under the words Tier X in the lab UI) has never moved, ever.

However how well I'm doing in matches doesn't line up with being an immovable tier 5, at least from what I'm seeing. So I played 10 matches this afternoon and screen grabbed the results they're attached below. You tell me whether I'm still T5.

Sorry for the number of attachments, but it didn't make much sense to walk in the door and say I shouldn't be tier 5 because I'm like totally awesome dudes, just trust me on it.

Match scores and dam are for all players, not just team.

My alt account is Tier 3, and I've never spent any money on that account. I think PSR moves up very slowly...

Quit before tiers, came back to tiers. Went from 4 to 1 in a month, and haven't dropped a penny into the game.

To be honest the tiers are incredibly broken and even at tier 1 I see people with the skills of a tier 5 player, it's frustrating more than it's not these days.

Oh I'm not F2P, I already own 13 mechs. The Timber is a stock C(C) with advanced zoom, improved gyros, and C ER Medium Laser Cooldown 2.

I just searched for stuck in tier 5.

What I'm asking is those scores for 10 matches look like Tier 5 scores?
