I started a free account, thunderbolts only. I got to Tier 3 around the end of my cadet bonus.

And at this point I can confirm that it IS working, just incredibly slow even with all the wins and high scoring yesterday:

As you can see it's moving, just way slowly.

So I guess the final advice for any new players- if you DO worry about climbing the ladder quickly, start a throwaway account and play your first 100 or so matches with that, don't spend any real money on it, until you feel like you are basically competent. THEN start your real account, it seems lots of early losses and poor scores are a real chain on your ankle that takes a long time to get rid of.

Can someone tell me if the bar I am seeing under the words Tier 5 ARE a progress bar or not? Because it's never moved. Basically I'm not going to worry too much about what tier I am, but I DO want to make sure I'm not bugged so my tier is an accurate reflection of where I am.

It's supposed to be a progress bar. It goes up /down very slowly. How many games have you played? Can you post your stats from https://mwomercs.com/profile/stats ? My damage scores are usually lower than the ones you posted and I'm in T2. I've just played a lot. If you really suspect the display is broken maybe try turning on your forum profile tier and see if it still says T5. Failing that you can contact support@mwomercs.com and ask if anything looks out of place. It might take a while to get a response due to the low urgency / impact of the issue.

Kills / Death 2,998 / 1,916
C-Bills 100,953,773
Experience Points 3,767,635
Wins / Losses 1,588 / 1,419
Kill / Death Ratio 1.56
Accumulative C-Bills Per Match 116,712.73
Avg. XP Per Match 1,252.95

This is complete and utter nonsense. The champion mechs are exactly the same as non-champions(by shinobi)

Sir your out of your mind after buying and running champion mechs at there conception along side there free2 play counterparts I can tell you the Champions outlast there counterpart mechs 2-1 in average battles with the same loadouts.

I have played a lot of the champion mechs, I feel no difference between them and the normal.

If that progress is from one game then I would consider that moving "quickly". At the higher tiers the bar doesn't move up at all visually per game. I've been in T2 for months now since moving from T3

And this time the quote button works, WTF. Anyway, no that was total movement yesterday from ~ 25-30 matches, which were about 2/3 wins, during which I had two match wins and generally was in top 5 or 6 in match scores, win or lose.

I own both the champion and regular variants of several mechs, and can say the is ZERO difference. Additionally, if what you claim were true, comp players would only run these variants. That is not the case.

That's because there is no difference. There is no geometry change or structure/armor quirks applied to the champion versions. They literally just have an XP booster.

Is this because I have never purchased anything? Is there some sort "Wall" I will never get past?

Total F2P player here since prior to official launch. Tier 3 now. I was stuck at Tier 4 for a while. To get the free Cicada in the recent challenge, I switched to meta and it moved me to Tier 3 (and won my Cicada).

It's only your skills to blame

You can level up in trial mechs (i'd actually advise that until your noob bonus is up, the first 25 fights)

Once the bonus ends you'll have enough to buy any mech and most in all 3 chassis variants you need to master it. Also you'll have tried and understood what you like the most.

If you don't have much playtime to dedicate and be universaly good with any mech, specialize, go for either Assault/Heavy or Light/Medium, they play differently and if you jump around you will have worse results than if you stick to one

Master Blaster, and anyone else interested, I played 20 matches this afternoon, capturing both pages of results and dumping the numbers into Excel, except for the W/L and Alive/Dead they're averages of course. Is there a reasonable way to paste a spreadsheet? I can't find one. I'd put the raw numbers in if there's some way to do it without manually lining everything up.

W/L....Alive/Dead....Dam.....Dam Rank...K......A......SK......KMD.....Comp.
13-6.......12-7..........501.5........5.1.........1.5...5.2......6........1.4..........3.2

Match Score...Match Rank.......EXP
328.1..................5.1...........1835.6

So 28 kills in 20 matches, 7 deaths, K/D exactly 4-1.

During that time, the below is the movement of the bar:

Posted Image

So it's going a little faster. As we were saying above, there seems to be a really significant penalty to advancement if you get a bunch of bad results early. If you get friends to join, I'd tell them to create a throwaway, flail around in horrible noobishness for however long it takes to wear off, then create the "real" account.

I think losses are more important to progression than wins.

Getting good scores on a win especially ROFLStomps is not really hard, so basicaly every win increases your PSR. But with every bad or even mediocre loss it drops again.
So with a W/L ratio of 1 your net PSR increase isn't that high because after every loss it drops a bit.

What matters a lot is your loadout and playstyle I think.

I do OK in all of my mechs across the board especially on wins(except some of my lights), but looking at individual mechs I see a trend, my Brawlers tend to have high Dmg/Kill ratios mostly on wins, on losses I am at the bottom of the barrel most of the time and have a W/L of slightly higher then 1 thus loosing PSR on looses.
My midrange builds are about 1.5 W/L mostly OK during losses, and the absolute outlier with a W/L of 2.67 is a mid/close range loadout I play very agressively especialy during the initial phase, switch to passive once the armor gets paper thin and push hard again in the late game. In this mech I tend to stay at my PSR or even raise it even on a loss.

Can confirm it moves veery slowly.

I returned after a year and lost my first 13 games in a row.
I then decided to level an atlas.

I won 22 of my next 25 games, my tier 5 bar hardly moved.
(I have a spreadsheet of all stats from those games - I have learned to write down stats when I feel like I always lose, so I know if it's really true.

Match scores from 280 to 600, 400 to 900 damage a game.

P.S. damage done is the only stat that really matters. Although kills seem to help.

Plus you cannot earn lance in formation bonuses in fast mechs - standing shoulder to shoulder is not how you play fast mechs. So you get more little boosts from big mechs too.

(I own about 50 mechs, probably a couple thousand games played. In tier 5.)

That's because "community" isn't something PGI understands honestly. The forums are kept up for appearances more than anything else it seems.

PGI has been through more community managers than Cleveland has QBs

It's actually a permanent barrier that I am afraid you may never overcome. PGI has decried that all soft-headed special snowflakes be corralled together. This makes it easier for the "Tardwranglers" to manage.

With that said there is still fun to be had. Be sure to wear your helmet, and safety mittens; enjoy the game.

F2P player here. I've only purchase one hero mech, Grey Death and I think I bought a MC early on. So I think like a total of $20-30. MC money spent poorly, Grey Death was a good buy.

3149 drops/games total.

Obviously if I cared to manipulate the bar I would use different mechs rather than my Cents or Summoner.
