There have been a lot of posts and suggestions lately asking the devs to change various things away from Canon BT rules and nomenclatures. This has made me wonder how many people are here simply because this is Battletech and how many are here because it's giant freaking fighting robots.

Now I realize that for some people it's one and the same but for, I'm guessing, many of us it's the actual old school Battletech that dragged us here.

I myself will not play this game if PPCs become Plasma Cannons and AC/20s become 205mm Cannons. Those are just examples, there are many other changes which would turn me off and make me go do something else rather than play.

I don't think I'm alone to think like this but not being sure I've made a poll.

How many of you will throw this game away if it becomes giant fighting robots and moves too far away from canon BT?

o_O
Is it me, or the question is weird?
We came here to play MW game, that we've been waiting for 10 years. It's like asking on WoW forum "would you play this game, if it was not WoW, but with elves and orcs?"

Well judging from the variety of people who post on forums there are a lot of people who actually don't care about this being BT/MW and only care about giant robot destruction.

But yeah personally... BT4Life

Definitely not, I came here because it's Mechwarrior, not some random robot game.

Well, yes, but incidentally, BattleTech happens to provide many of the things I'm looking for in a Mech game exactly. So I wouldn't like it if it was too much unlike BattleTech. That said, what matters most to me is what some call meaningful play, that is a good and proper underlying game mechanic that provides challenge and stimulation.

I would still be interested in it, as I am with Hawken, but I wouldn't be so inclined to blindly throw wads of cash at it.

i love battletech, and pretty much anything associated with machines driven by humans into war. i hate transformers due to the robots being AI with quirky personalities...that being said, if the game wasnt battletech i would still give it a once over to see how well i liked it. every game deserves a chance, you might be surprised by what you find fun outside of your normal comfort zone

We may draw a decent number of people because of good game mechanics, decent story line and , yes, Big Freakin' Robots however IMHO if it isn't BT/MW and as close to canon as gameplay allows then you would see it disappear. Again, just my humble opinion.

Its precisely because tis mechwarrior/battletech that i,m playing it you take that away and i,d probably not of given it a second glan
nce much less a first.

Toome the lore behind battletech keeps me interested the storys the novels not jsut big freckin robots thats only part of it for me.Its why i dont rant about the clans etc its because i know they are there for a specific reason ....and oddly looking forward too said specific reason lol.

Why would I play a game that is called Mechwarrior, while it is something completely different? B)

We shall have to look to the success or failure of hawken to answer this question. Personally, I have no background with the entire franchise whatsoever; MWO is the only reason I can tell a PPC from an ERLL, etc etc. I'm basing my interest on the merits f what we've been shown, merits that I'm hoping carry over to hands on gameplay. Comparing this upcoming mech game to te other, hawken, I can say that this one definitely piques my interest way more as a slower, thinking man's game as opposed to (at least what appears to be) the arcade-y feel of hawken. that's how it started for me; the ton of background info from sarna and these forums came afterward and not before.

There are too many games out there competing for my money that i would never have thought about join this forum or purchasing a founders package if it were not Mechwarrior. For example i never looked at WoT or DDO and many others because i have similar games already, but a new MW title oh yeah!

I came here for the BT universe, the next 3 years will give us a chance to live through the BoK trilogy and experience the Clan invasion first hand.

Been avid fan of the whole BT/MW universe/story since the beginning.... may not have come if wasn't for that... doubt seriously would have purchased Founder pack sight unseen otherwise....

Looking forward to playing, and looking forward to the Metagame as well.... not interested in yet another arcade style, arms race... and the devs are delivering what they said they would (well... from what releases and videos I've seen so far... <checks> yup, still pending.. B) )

So long as MWO remains a tactical mech simulator and not a run-and-gun FPS, I'm in.

Adding the BT canon to the game is the gravy on the cake. Mmmm...gravy.

(this is an excellent customer poll. lots of interesting answers. good job Engineering!)
