Why does anyone wants to design round circles in rectangular or squared screens?

Why does anyone wants to go in circles in a square map? ;)

I'm sorry but balance gone to hell, meta dull play tiresome, and they are making cockpit monitors ?

Art dept. has nothing to do with game balance and game play; two different teams and production schedules. Meaning, at no point does having the art dept work on...ART...affect the design mechanics of the game.

In all my years of school and graphic design i have never once been told i could not put rounds items in square holes. This isn't the shape game in preschool....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, i happen to think they are a serious upgrade from "DERP no WORK" screens even if some of us cant get over the fact that more then one shape may exist in our cockpits.

Most media your print on is square, like paper from printers, signs, plaques, books....etc. If we had multiple shapes in the media I would say yes (the rules is 2 and no more then 3 different shapes, fonts, etc.) but its two shapes.

Squares inside of squares dont really look much better, gives you the effect of reveals and often makes it look too busy.

Yep. It shows the display better than most of the photos of the real thing. B)

It is pretty hard to get clear footage of MFDs from just about any military airframe. I've sometimes stumbled across Apache footage... this video has a few seconds here or there...

I've seen some better ones but I think they were deleted.

I am sure then you must know what's looks good and what's not.

I am sure you can't deny how that this:

I just wish they'd make the interfaces in cockpits like in actual US military vehicles. The reason why the lights are red/green and the screens are green is to make them easier to see with NODs on. Same goes for Russian equipment and their choice of red for most of their lighting and displays.

In very few military vehicles will you ever see blue lighting actually used while in tactical operations because of the washout effect you get.

In essence, I think they need to look at the current HUDs and instrument panels of war fighting machines and emulate those in terms of color, lighting, and general ergonomics.

I'm going to tweet this to Russ later tonight.

And I'll ask him "Do you want to make money on cockpits? Because this is how you make money on cockpits!"

Sarlic you also have to remember that that kind of stuff is going to hit performance in a major way.

Only if it can be turned off. Both for performance and because I don't need all that cheesecake, it's frankly annoying.

And I think a lot of other women might agree.

This thread is making me wonder if the new cockpit screens will be like the dynamic mechlab portraits?

If players can go into the files and replace the images, that could have a lot of potential.

Well, in my original (tongue in cheek) post, I said "pin up models".

I didn't specify that they needed to be any particular gender - so perhaps a different type of cheesecake should be represented for those interested?
