I'm not really familiar with the Archer
Is anyone else worried at how close it looks to the original though?
Nope. Look how close the CGL Warhammer and Marauders look to the source material. Heck, the Marauder especially. I would say that it's just further proof that TOOPs/CGL found a ***** in HG's armor. Or maybe the CGL/PGI/HBS alliance is paying a royalty. If it were just PGI running with it, I might be more concerned, but with all 3 in, one a company run by the guy most familiar witht eh Unseen (Jordan Weisman), and the other backed by TOPPs legal team?
Not concerned at all.
They toss in the ARC-2S I might just be tempted to buy.

True, it's profile is going to be a lot like the Dragon so the hit boxes are probably not going to be very friendly at release. I'd expect a hit box revision or two shortly after release.

triple4s more potent that 6s. Maybe not as much nice splash damage, but more efficient at actually killing things. Better cluster, better RoF, better ammo consumption.

Ideas... Steel Rain, Hellbow, Barbed Arrow, Belching Archer.
Too many other names are already other mechs.
Might actually have to spend some money on MWO again, this is just too sexy and would compliment my Founders Catapult.
Now I need the smaller versions the Whitworth and Dervish and the big Longbow.
TAG in that CT energy spot? Yes please.

Slop is for ammateurs.
with Endo and Ferro, and a little bit of leg armor shaved off, one should be able to pack 4 MLs, 6xSRM4, 8 tons of ammo, and around a 325std. Though probably going to want some of that as heatsinks so might still end up real world around a 300.
And be far more effective than any 6x6 build.
Of course, all that is assuming they would give it 10 hardpoints, which I doubt. My money is 4E, and 2-4 M.

Having released the King Crab, Crab and Archer, I wonder if PGI has figured out how to give the CPLT-C1, C4 and A1 a variable size missile launcher, with working missile bay doors. instead of the one-size-fits-all boombox with multiple VCR-players attached.

SRMs don't care about ECM
Artemis does. For whatever reason. Jesus box makes the missiles spread more through the Holy Spirit.

Maybe the high mounted energy hardpoints is its savior.
Edit: It also kinda looks like the combination of a Dragon+Maddog.

According to Russ' tweets we are getting a Catapult rescale starting this month, but I have no idea how long it will take.
Jesus Box null when TAG on CT. Will be a better hill humping LRM launcher than the Cata that is for sure.

Russ's New Twitter Profile Picture,
do i Spy the Archer Battlemech?
I like that design. It looks tough and mean and wants to start fights wherever it goes. Also I like the how it's cockpit looks like it belongs on the Marauder (though the original art had similar looking cockpits).
And according to Sarna, the cockpit is in the right place:
"It's also unique in that its cockpit is located beneath the central torso, with the torso armor belt located above the cockpit to protect the Gyro and engine."
Also I'm surprised how close it looks looks to the Spartan Destroid. Though not as much as Mechwarrior 4's Archer (it's cockpit is located In the same spot as it's Spartan but has weird Vulture gun arms). If this is a another victory of Topp's lawers to get HerpDerp gold to fugg off, then All hail our glorious Basesball card overlords!
