I'll give the new skill tree a spin and watch the implementation. I would rather not have to be cashed out my "skill points" or whatever they'll be called right back into the sames mechs.

Im a little put off by the idea of returning to have my mechs stripped from the tree and what kind of compensation i can expect for all my time my cbills and MC put into xp and conversion...
Then after all the things that led me to stop playing i have to start again in good faith that both myself and all my favorite mechs that i invested time and money into wont just be screwed over again on a whim and a moments notice....

I have 4 things I'd like to see the new skill system do:
- Don't break balance. The quirked mechs needs their quirks and more. Certainly more if the top mechs now can use skills to min-max them selves to a higher power level than where they are now with skills/modules and no quirks. Don't forget the min-max potential!
- Don't promote boating of single weapons. If single weapon boats can transfer SP not spent on multiple weapons to buff themselves in other departments you are hampering build variety. I'd suggest dedicating weapon-SP to the weapons skill tree and don't allow free spending. Boring perhaps, but I think it will improve balance. Boats have higher min-max potential, don't forget!
- Allow for free respecs. Seriously, yes I know that there may be some potential for making money on that, but for me (and many others I'd presume) it will just be a pay-wall. I won't respec to try a fun build for 5 games and then turn back if it costs me, meaning that I will have less fun, meaning that I will be entertained for a shorter time.
- Promote roles. Self-explanatory. Just don't break balance.

I take it you didn't watch the stream? Russ stated that all the XP spent on everything in the current skills tab would be refunded 100% and all the CBills that you spent on non-consumable modules will be refunded 100%. Then you can just use those refunded funds to redo your mechs under the new trees.
That aside, I'm curious on how they plan to allow both IS and Clan mechs access to the exact same trees without it making Clans OP as they were when they were first added (hence why IS quirks came to exist in the first place).

To quote a smarter man than me, "DECENCY" on REDDIT https://www.reddit.c...l_tree_trailer/:
"The obvious concern here is how pay-to-win the system is. First potential problem: if spending MC is the only way to respec, it's immediately a broken system. Every time a new patch comes out that shifts the weapon balance, you'll have to spend a bunch to fix your mechs. That's not a good option. My suggestion is MC, GXP, or spending 10-20% of the Mech's initial cost in C-Bills. Don't make it cost Mech XP, because then mechs just over the threshold will go from being fully spec'ed to not every time a disruptive patch hits, which will be frustrating."
When a man gets it so right, you just have to quote him.
Fix: Make respec a reasonable cost of cbill only thing.
