Okay. I've avoided it for a long time. I've Mastered the Zeus for my Assault. Marauder for my Heavy. Wolverines for my Mediums. I just need a light to fill out a drop deck.

*shudder*. I own Oxide and have enough saved up for the other two Jenner chassis.
SO, question... in the huge youtube library of "light mech teachings" are there either specific vids (Jenner preferred) or certain pilots posting either jenner or just light mech vids that are highly recommended.

I soak up tips and trick like a sponge and don't mind spending a few hours watching game tape.

... I ran one match in Oxide the night I bought her... it was.. not a spectacular match but I can see where it may possibly be fun (though I believe I'm just bred to drive heavy iron but willing to try)

Thanks again, I'll get the popcorn and beers ready Posted Image

(p.s. I DO own Pirates Bane too.. that thing damn near made me dizzy zipping around like that!)

I highly recommend Spike Brave's videos, and they will teach you a lot about what to do, and not do in a light. I also recommend hopping on the Locust thread (link in my sig), to talk shop. Most of us are dedicated light pilots who spend more time in a light mech than eating food. (Just a heads up, virtually everyone there is certifiably insane, because we insist on driving lights, especially ones that are considered "bad" by others, and make them work)

Oh, and you might want to remove the MGs from the Pirate's Bane, unless you enjoy having frequent epileptic seizures.

I'm puzzled, the K (according to the wiki) gives up the missile hardpoint for more module slots, yet I don't see the additional module slots... I'm assuming the 'unofficial' wiki is incorrect? I like my modules.. one of the things I like about Oxide is the early use of both Radar Dep and Seismic.

If it's the gamepedia wiki, then yes, that thing hasn't been updated in forever. The K has the same module count, which I think is a travesty.

Your best source of information on mechs is smurfy mwo.smurfy-net.de learn it, live it, love it. You can do all kinds of crazy experiments there, and trust their data, they pull it from the game files directly.

Old info. In the PREVIOUS iteration of modules (before the weapon modules, IIRC), the JR7-K had more module slots. THEN, PGI went and split up the modules between mech, weapon, and consumable. Apparently, the wiki hasn't been updated appropriately. :-/ JR7-K, according to Smurfy, is a 1-2-2 like all the other Jenners (except Oxide). Thus, not a particularly popular one. JR7-D has more missile slots, and the Sarah's Jenner gets a C-Bill bonus I think. JR7-F drops the missiles for two more energy hard points, and has the -F(C) for extra payoff. There's really no use for the -K. For quirks, the 10% range buff for the lasers is about it. There's a 5% duration buff, but the -F gets 10%. And the -D gets the missile buffs. Acceleration/deceleration, turn/twist rates, are the same for the -F and -K. Simply no good reason to take a -K unless you anticipate NEEDING 10% more laser range than you can get with any other Jenner.

Bummer. The old days of an extra module slot in the -K? Those were the days. I am not at all ashamed to say that I abused that extra module slot...

Good, Locusts teach THE HARD WAY, the lessons of a Light pilot.

1. Be a COWARD, if its a fair fight, you messed up.
2. They should not see you...ever until late match.
3. Do not duel other lights, even if you win you are usually crippled.
4. Hang with your heavies/assaults, they attract more fire and you hit the enemy when they are on cooldown. Hiding behind friendlies is OK but DO NOT BLOCK THEM IN.
5. RADAR RADAR RADAR, one eye on RADAR all times and look for the flow of the fight.
6. Look for lonely enemy slow mechs...these are your food, but remember #1 if a another enemy comes along.
7. Get enemies to chase your cookie behind into your team. Be the cookie, nom nom.
8 If you arent scared to peek any given corner, you are getting sloppy or know EXACTLY where the enemy is.
9 DO NOT RUN in straight lines. Zig-zag. Play with slowing/braking mid-run...you will see shells fly past your face when doing this.
10. Enemy RADAR is a 45degree arc in their front, try to hang on the outside edge of this to get 'free trades' in Solo. Group/CW poeple tend to pay more attention so be more careful.
11. Poke and peek but more than twice from the same spot is asking for a dual Gauss to the face. Vary your pokes!
12. Fake poke to shoot the enemy on his cooldown.
13. Though risky, an enemy heavy/assault trying too hard to hit you is not hitting a teammate...this equals FREE ARMOR for your team. Harassing an enemy can be just as good as killing them. Subtract an enemy gun, help your team

Also spec good light pilots.
You WILL get your 6th sense after you die 1000 times, so get dying!!!!

I should have asked, then bought. Ah well, in typical fashion I'll make do with that I have and make the K work. Already have the 5 biggest basics done and honestly while it doesn't drive as sweet at Oxide it's a pretty good ride. Will finish it out and move to the next.. thinking F.

...and I feel my sixth sense starting to tingle.. but I have a way to go...

Ain't going to lie.. I got an adrenaline rush dodging in around them. My hand was shaking and I was giggling the whole time.
Does the rush go away at some point? Posted Image

no it most certainly does not, although for the ultimate rush try the lighter lights, Locust, Commando and Spider,
the those 3 can be 20kph faster than the Jenner (depending on variant), and the Spider can also mount a LOT of Jumpjets (12 on the 5V),
imagine a 165KPH Mech able to jump over pretty much any obstacle (short of a mountain) unfortunately the 5V can only mount 2 lasers in the CT making it the most lightly armed Mech in the game but it is the ultimate distraction Mech,

For the ultimate rush, after eliting the Jenners try a SDR-5V, XL280 11 JJs, and 2 MPL,
find the enemy, get behind them, fire a few shots then jump up onto a cliff where almost nothing else can follow, swing around and do it again from a different direction, it does not matter that you are doing minimal damage the amount you are distracting and annoying the enemy team is great,
like that you can have the team so focused on you that they completely miss your other 11 Mechs walking around the corner, until they notice they have lost half the team (I have done that several times)

you can also let them chase you straight into a firing line setup by your team, that works against solo players probably 1 time in 3, and it can literaly take care of half the enemy team

those tactics can work great in solo queue but in group queue the enemy tend to be a bit better orginized

the best rush I ever had was assault on Canyon Networks, in a group drop with my lance on teamspeak, my team had taken the center when we got the "base under attack" warning, and the base health started going down fairly quickly, I ran back to base in my SDR-5D to investigate, the enemy had a heavy/assault Lance on the base which by that point was at about 10%, I asked my lance (on teamspeak) to tell the rest of the team (this was before ingame VOIP)
I in a Spider, had to stop the cap until the rest of the team could respond, I managed to stay on the base for long enough to allow allies to get back from the center of canyon network, unfortunately I got legged at about the time my lance got back, but by that point the enemy had plenty of other Mechs to shoot at. I literally managed to dance the spider, evading fire, for I am guessing about 30 seconds inside the base capture zone.

my Spider did not survive but all the team returned to base and took down the enemies 4 heaviest Mechs with only my Spider having taken much damage,, we literally traded 1 Light for their heaviest lance, the game ended 12 kills to 1

only PGI (the developer) can update the Wiki and I think they only do so with new Mechs, as TheRAbbi said the K used to have more module slots, I think it came with 3 stock when most other Mechs came with 1-2.
with the first quirkening the K got better quirks than the other Jenners, so when they redid the module system they changed the Ks modules to the same as other Jenners, unfortunately since then the K has had its quirks reduced, now there is no good reason to take the k instead of the D,
Sorry

Yeah. Next time you throw down like that in a Jenner, I'd sure love to see the instant replay from your helmet cam.
I mean, I DO want to get better at this game.

I don't want to be an ***, but if you want gameplay videos that will help you get better at the game, you won't get it from rookies playing in a safe environment away from veterans, even if they pull out good numbers. Don't get me wrong, matchmaking is a very good thing. But I've watched some rookie videos last days, they can score very respectable damage while playing very badly (and again, that is pretty normal for a rookie). If they played like that in higher tiers they would score something like 50 dmg, and same for you if you take them as an example.

Again, I don't want to be an ***, but better ask a vet. Here is the first time I broke 1k with the Oxide. It was one year and a half ago, by the time they didn't even have quirks to buff them. Here are more recent drops.
Or, because it's not about bragging about myself, I'll soon hopefully edit this message to link this video of p33per scoring 1600 in a JR7-F, if I can put my hands on it.

Videos from rookie pilots are also quite educational. They can teach you how mistakes happen, and what those mistakes are.

There is a huge difference in play between solo queue, and group queue, and between low tiers, and higher tiers that a video from any tier is useful.

Indeed.
But for that purpose I think it's even better to watch your own games and learn from your own mistakes, rather than another player's.

No offense taken at all. I get both your points.
For my part, I'll watch both vet and rookie games.
As long as you know which is which, yes both can be educational (meaning you are getting either "do more of this" or "do less of that" from them).

I do miss that extra missile point on the K, but honestly I used that extra tonnage to up the armour so the bit of extra durability is working out okay. Like I said, few more matches and it's basic'd and on to the F so no big heartache. :)

The rush doesn´t go away, and I feel it best in my Locusts and sometimes in the Spider, the troll mech of old.
Lost all my older Screenshots, but here are some of my racing heart moments from the last months:

I know the 6ML build of the F is basically the most wide spread thing since the invention of air, but I'd also recommend trying out 5 MLs with the extra ton used to add an extra DHS, it makes a world of difference for your sustained damage. Try both, and see which one you enjoy.

Since the last quirk pass (before it had a nice enough MPLas bonus) I use the -K for a 4 MLas + NARC build. It's not as good as the Raven-3L for a NARC build (especially now that the Raven has a NARC duration quirk), but it has jumpjets so it's fairly decent.

You evil people, you made me unpack my Oxide and slap in SRM4s for the LRMs. 4 SRM4, 2 tons ammo (much too little - I ran out) and a spare 300XL engine. My first run was 2 kills, three assists even when running out of missiles...

One Dire Wolf (solo, it was mint) and one Atlas, both exploded with missile salvos into the rear. :-)

This. And, videos from a year and a half ago are missing things like

-more recently added enemy mechs
-more recently updated quirks
-more recently added balancing efforts
-more recently added maps

No offense, and likewise not trying to be an *** to anyone. And I'm only half-serious about the learning thing. But I DO like to watch occasional videos from other light drivers and see how they're approaching certain problems. Our OP may be throwing down in tier 4 during the Steamaissance, but that's still some fairly impressive performance so far. It'd be kickin' to watch!

Indeed. Bought the pack 2 days ago and is pulling numbers like that in basics. We are talking Jennies here not Assaults.

Someone mentioned the mg on the PB, I ditched the stock load for 4ml, got tired of having to use thermal so I could see where I was going. The Blind Sensei I am not. Dim maps like Mining its unbearable.

The Spider 5v was mentioned. I got it running 1 lpl and 6 jj 1 stdhs in the leg and an xl245, jump 52m speed 142kph. 5K LPL 4 mg 2 jj xl210 2 stdhs in legs. Jump 17.3 speed 113kph. don't need the speed, this one I hang out right in the middle of the Fatties on top of something preferably.

Glad you found the Jenny Oxide love! As you have found, it is not a push over and can "bring the pain". I found the others to be just a fun because of the jump jets (although admittedly have not played them recently) - nothing like jumping over assaults with a 180 twist mid air to hit them in the back! And no, the thrill of survival never goes away, just wait until you survive a strafing run through the middle of a deathball getting them to friendly fire each other!
