Yes, I want PGI to fix this finally. I have learned to ignore it pretty well, but today I am voicing it. And rightfully so, cus many seem to not understand, or even care that its an issue.

So wait, if the windows key works when there is something to alt tab to and there are even ways to open a browser ingame then isn't it perfectly fine?

I mean you could just keep a web page open if you needed to alt tab to something. Really I thought it was supposed to work the way that you specified.

I dont think we should have to constantly be changing our windows settings to play.
And I think we have suffered from this **** for long enough. It's not a good sign when little stuff like this gets left behind for so long

Fact is, this used to not be an issue, until an update to directx... that PGI never updated for

In just a few days, I spend as much time dealing with alt tab in MWO, as I have spent writing all these responses. So yeah, I think its worth the effort to scream a little. I do write fast tho.

Its just that to me its entirely been a non-issue. A few other games I have stay up when I alt tab or don't allow it at all, MWO has always worked for me when I needed it to. Mostly because I never alt tab without actually having something to alt tab out to.

Okay I just tried closing all windows in the background and that did make alt-tabbing a bit wonky even with fullscreen-window mode. first tab does nothing, but on the second try I can swap between MWO and desktop in the little popup window that comes up (windows 8).

So yah, I can imagine that being very frustrating after a while, but at the same time the simple workaround would be to simply have a window open in the background. (I always got a few windows and programs open so I never noticed that issue before.)

If you can't Alt+Tab without some other window in background, a crutch (for Win7, at least):
Ctrl+Alt+Del, then run Task manager
MWO is minimized, and you can Alt+Tab further, just don't close task manager.

However if you really see this as a problem and don´t want to leave your browser open, just open an explorer window?

For me, I always have to have another program running on the taskbar.

If its just MWo up, and nothing else, I can't ALT-TAB to even get my start bar up.

So I run Notepad++ or CALC, because they're low resource, then I can alt tab and bring up a browser or w/e while waiting.

Just leave TS open if you for some ridiculous reason feel like you need to alt tab in the middle of a match, even though there is really no reason why you should ever be doing that in the middle of a match anyhow.

Are you even sure its a PGI problem and not a general OS thing where every game behaves the same? No you probably aren't.

Did you try the different window modes?

Uhh...technically, the purpose of ALT-TAB is to quickly switch between top-level program windows. If you don't have any other top-level program windows open, then ALT-TAB has nothing to switch to, and therefore theoretically should do nothing.

In no way, shape, or form is that kind of anger justified over so small an issue. Are you not running Teamspeak? Join a group, run Teamspeak, issue solved. Alt Tab then brings you from the game to Teamspeak. Have Internet Explorer running or whatever browser you use..Alt Tab works fine. Have Calculator or Notepad open...Alt Tab issue solved. Play music in the background using Media Player or whatever you use...Alt Tab issue solved. Have the Dec 1st quirk list open offline...Alt Tab issue solved. Have Steam running in the background...Alt Tab issue solved.

I can't alt tab out of any game running in fullscreen without something else running on the desktop since I started running Win 8 and now 10. This isn't really PGI's problem to fix.

The Alt-Tab shortcut is literally called "Task Switcher". If you don't have anything other programs running, THERE ARE NO OTHER TASKS to switch to. This is 100% user error, a misunderstanding of what that shortcut does- it is an OS level function and PGI has no control over how it operates.

If you need something running the the background to switch to and are worried about resource usage: notepad.exe.

Run full window mode then you can do one of the following
1. Press Windows key
2. Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc
3. Press Windows + D (minimize all to desktop)
4. Leave Chrome open so you can forum warrior between matches

I was playing Witcher 3 and had the same problem, it's not just MWO
