So many Tier 1 scrubs in this thread...

Do people actually think there are people sandbagging their PSR rating so that they can win leaderboards?

Who the hell cares?

When it comes to the top 5 spots for the leaderboards in this game it comes down to RNGesus and who has more time to grind matches. Guess what you win if you get 1st place? Like $10 worth of MC and bragging rights over something nobody gives a sh!t about. Don't take it so seriously guys, just have fun with it.

edit: also, good job Mcgral18 keep kicking butt!

I wouldnt have to grind in lower tiers, just play about 20 matches and be done at around 4k match score.

Once again, scrub lily coming to the defense of other scrubs they dont know. Just stop responding to my post, you are a nuisance to all that is competitive. ITS A LEADERBOARD.

you are just too stupid to undertsand that the tiering in MWO means nothing. You constantly flail this t1 label around as if it woul mean anything being somehow related to skill. And if you truly were clever you would know why it is not.

So stop posting nonsense which is just plain wrong and I will not have the need to responfd to your posts.

Its not flawed, trust me, its completely different for me and you.

1. having different tier leaderboards
2. show tier next to placement
3. Opt in to a tier 1 for leaderboard tourneys

It is flawed, you would still be t3 if you had only played like 100 matches since tier is tracking data. Tier is heavily depend on racking up games and not much about skill. The fact that you dany it just makes you look foolish by not understanding it's broken mechnic. The entire system is broken because even in T1 there are a laod of bad players if oyu really think that T1 is only restricted to really good players, then you just haven't unerstand how easily one can get carried to T1.

Thanks for the explanation. It looks like the way it is set up doesn't exactly encourage team play though, as the most rewarding thing is solo kills. No points for sticking with the team, helping the team, accomplishing team objectives. Just every man for himself. I'm surprised there hasn't been more saltiness than there has been so far.

not entirely, because if your team breaks up too much, things will fail horribly.

Yeah if all yer games are this ^ youre gonna hit some serious numbers.

I wish I had time to play. Im not even getting the personal challenge stuff. *shakes fist*

On the bright side, I *am* posting this from a beach on Rabaul. So that might be slightly better than a few thousand more MC and some hanging items ill never use.

but you can waste so many MC on decals "soon"

I also have a hard time believing anyone would start up a new account with low PSR buy one or more of these mechs with real money (none are cbill mechs) and have that stranded on a throw away account just so they can have bragging rights on an account that isn't even their primary name....

I'm just enjoying watching the Hunchback Whisperer and the Avatar of RNGesus compete.

My attention span goldfished out by day two and I slipped from 2nd into 6th or so in the Onion IIC-B and I just don't feel like playing that Onion IIC anymore when I have so many other mechs to level.

I get that but you missed the point of my post. My point was it's somewhat flawed to limit the leaderboard to tier 1 pilots only when all you have to do is run with 8+ man groups long enough and you are tier 1. Even if you have less than a 50% win rate against other 8+ man groups you will more than make up for it with farming 2-4 man groups on the opposite side. Meanwhile there could be some really good pilots that play mostly 2-4 man groups (where they are at a disadvantage) or solo and it would be silly to exclude them from the leaderboards.

I promise you there are plenty of groups who drop big and can't tie their shoes.

The premise of your entire argument is that because you haven't seen someone in games before and they are on leaderboards they must be a sandbagging or smurf account. How self-centered are you? Who freaking cares what tier people are in anyway. OH NO, Tier 1 matches are so much harder than Tier 3. BOO HOO.

I can assure you, there are still plenty of Potatos in Tier 1.
As you surely know first hand.

Oddly, it's been pretty good for the event. Sure, a handful of half the team failing 200 damage, but largely not Terrible, but also not TOO competent.
Hence the score.

They must be good enough not to be Steamrolled, but also not so good they secure kills. You, on the other hand, must vomit damage and secure a kill. Example, dual ST kill a Clam mech, if you take the ST, you also take the arm IS+A, which means inflated damage.

Though, against the previous insight, my best match was probably in my Poptart hunch. 2 stagnant teams on Alpine, letting me pop in peace. 8 Kill (4 SK), 3 Assist, ~800 damage
With but a Gauss and an ERPPC. No ammo by the end of it.

It's a good thing when you run out of ammo.

I think Tier 1 PSR was the bar for "not a potato". Tier 1 scrubs are probably upgraded to "yams" at this point.

I imagine the best matches for getting a high score are when both teams are happy to poke and medium/long range the entire match but 90% of both teams are terrible at it. Seems like an easy way to get solo kills and massive damage.

Are you saying yams are better than potatoes? I shall have to take issue with this. A well made baked potato with some sour cream is delicious! Delicious I tell you!

So should we upgrade Tier 1 scrubs to "baked potatoes" instead? How about "mashed potatoes" instead?

If I have this correctly the order goes like this now:

Not Tier 1 --> Tier 1 --> Actually Good
Potato --> Baked Potato / Mashed potatoes --> Gravy on top

I think we can all agree that a team filled with T4 and T5 would be easier to farm and take advantage of. This is where you get A LOT of frustrating games, but also the best chance to see that 1500 damage many kills games because you clutched a victory or were able to fire on the enemy without a fight and without any aggression from your own team.

"Tier 1" fights are mixed with players who, for the most party, know how to play the game. Sure, there are some potatoes, but there will always be a MUCH higher chance of getting average (not terrible) games and much fewer game on the upper extreme.

Scoring in the Top 5 on several boards for this tournament would be much easier for a smurf account starting at Tier 5. They could even game their tier by have a throw-away match keeping them with all the other new players. Score top 5 on a few boards and you've gotten yourself a REALLY good start on an alt account. All for a $20-40 investment. Not that bad considering you'd get tens of millions of Cbills, a ****-ton of GXP, and at least $7 of MC almost guaranteed if you focused on one board.

TLDR
I'm just playing devils advocate here. I do think there is merit involving tiers for tournaments like this, but I doubt it's serious enough to actually do anything about (not that it would be anyway). We should at least not be ignorant about it.

Pretty sure that baked potatoes are regional (WA/CO) and not Tier based. ;-)

Tier 1 isn't what you think it is. Sure, there is a minimal skill requirement to get you in, but it's pretty minimal. There is a massive skill gap within Tier 1 between those who have simply played a lot of games to get in, and those who are actually really good at MWO.

In fact I would wager that the skill gap between the "minimal entry" into Tier 1 and the top of Tier 1 is wider than the gap between Tier 5 and minimal Tier 1.

Not during tourneys, ask any top player from any top unit. When the population is higher and more people on the drops get tougher. Its not a debate. Im talking to someone who wouldnt know in the first place.
