Originally, I had been looking for a Character Name for the old Star Wars d6 Roleplaying Game. At the Time the Movie "Mars Attacks" was in the Cinema and I was laughing my Socks off when looking at General Decker (the only Guy who saw the Threat by the Martians) and the funny Thing was that no one listened to him, even he was right... (something that also happens to me in Reality quite often)

As he was an American in the Movie and no first Name was mentioned I thought that "Joe" would just be the typical Name for a Guy like him Posted Image

That was what I, as a German thought at least.

General Decker Quote Translation : "We have to hit them now Sir ! Killing, killing, killing !" or something like that... also my typical Order/Proposal in MWO Drops Posted Image

So I had a Character for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game (he was a Gambler/Gunslinger in there) and when I started playing MWO I just thought the Name would fit well for a Mechpilot Posted Image

The nickname I use varies between games, but specifically for this game there was a rather simple story for the name.

I started to play last year, after watching some of my German friends play for quite a while, the most common thing they would complain about was having team-mates that were far too passive, scared of getting a scratch.

For a while they've tried convincing me to join in, and eventually I decided to try it out,
it was then that I promised explicitly that I'll do my best to not be 'passive',
to constantly be the aggressor, and hopefully, through example inspire others to do the same,
so then I had to pick a name, then I thought "Who was the most kick-*** German/Prussian general ever?".

That's it really, which is why I've been using voip in solo queue since its introduction.

P.S. Not a German myself, which makes it kinda funny when random people don't understand why I don't answer to German voip

P.S-2 Becoming a Steiner loyalist also makes it somewhat more funny.

Whelp, I'm often surprised at how often Leone is available for online gaming. It is the Italian form of the latin Leo, meaning, of course, Lion, and yet it is not widespread. It was kinda archaic when I found it ages ago. I've often used Leone here and there for characters for nigh over two decades, though I use others as well, changing from game to game. Whilest I had a bevy of names available for MWO one of my favourite mechwarriors of old was a Leone who grew up in the Outworlds Alliance and 'found a losttech cache' in mechwarrior 3rd ed, I knew I had to go with 'im.

Sadly, I will never be able to pilot his original mech, due to the lack of LAMs in this game, nor will I be able to recreate a simulacrum due to hardpoints and the lack of melee weaponry, but never the less, it has served me well. I especially love how my unit decided to take the Outworlds Alliance in NBT completely without consulting me.

everyone asks me if I'm from philadelphia... or they ask me to sing to them... I really thought more people would get the tv show reference but of course in Michigan people know about the trailer park boys we're pretty close to canada... not so much in the rest of the country. I mean sure America doesn't get show case right? but cmon people the show is a classic your missing out on some good quality TV here. It was on NETFLIX ffs.

I used this name because when I played battletech I needed names for the 2 dozen or so tankers I was in charge of. Took a lot of them from the tv show and the first one I made was Phil so he ended up commander and kind of my main character. Battletech led to the google search that led me to this game.

From my old Battletech RPG days.
I played a grizzled mechwarrior who suddenly found himself dispossessed.
Actually he was betrayed by a greedy Uncle who wanted control of the family Battlemech battalion.
Abandon by his family for losing his almost his whole company he bummed around as tanker and infantry man.
Ten years later fortune favored him as manage to put a srm round the the cockpit of a Kurita Battlemaster.
He was awarded the mech for the kill.
His quest for vengeance soon started.

When Diablo 2 first came out, I rushed to play it! I created a necromancer as my first character and I couldn't decide on a name so I hit the random name generator and came up with Huoshini. Haven't used anything else since

My first online club was Old Men Online.

Once you were initiated into the club they had a naming ceremony, and the name had to reflect something "old".

There were players with names like Methuselah, Rogaine, Hemmoroid, Pacemaker, Bluehair, etc. They would brainstorm names and if they found one you liked they'd name you. If you held out long enough you could come up with one of your own, and as a kid I liked watching Gunsmoke on TV.

Festus was my favorite character so I adopted that. The was over 20 years ago.

I like to hear how people choose screen names. You have a chance to rename yourself, to create a whole new identity, whats behind your choice.

My acc is named after the protagonist from "Dancers at the end of time" by Michael Moorcock, Jherek Carnelian. Unfortunately no one knows these books. They are a quite a neat science fiction-fantasy-lovestory.

Might have to check them out, don't watch tv, so still go old school with real paper. That sounds familiar though.

Mine was the name of my first hero Orc in Warhammer 40,000 back in '87-'88
Gorgo was defeated by a damn Wood Elf "Lorren the Swift" but survived to fight in another battle where he survived and won and was defeated again in another battle. Always, he survived, even when he lost...he was a lucky Orc.
I could think of no other name and hadn't played any form of video game for 15 years before MWO.
Gorgo seemed a lucky name the #7 is a lucky number and someone had already made a Gorgo account so I added the 7.

Always used "Agus" a diminutive for my real name Augusto (Augustus in EN), around 2002-2005 used "paing0d" which was a bot in MW4:Mercenaries then in 2007 came with an acronym for Perceptive "PRC" and since then it has been my online moniker, eventually started using variations as prcE, prc1, prc941, perce; per_zeh.

I stole my name from a fan translation of Tsukomu Nihei's manga "Biomega," before it went to print here in the USA. It's the name of one of the girls in the story who serves as a MacGuffin. I think the spelling has since been normalized to "Ion Green," but I think the way you see it here is prettier and more exotic-looking.

Since it's also of the normal first-name-surname layout, it actually works as a name in-universe across many titles (DCUO, EVE, MWO, SW:TOR, Planetside 2, etc.).

My name is something that I randomly thought up while registering for the Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 beta. I put the first two random sounds together in my mind, and together they formed "FupDup." Although it's kinda dumb, it at least wasn't as stupid as the name I used in C&C3: Tiberium Wars (C1ickC1ack).

I've stuck with this name ever since, because I suck at thinking up anything more creative than it.

Fun fact: Pronouncing this name out sound sounds like you're saying "F###ed Up." :P

That old joke's on US politics, but applies elsewhere as well.

I'm a staunch supporter of democracy, as no-one's really put forward a compelling alternative ... but still, I feel like the core problem is that the process of getting elected favours people whose #1 talent is spouting bullsh*t. And then we have these people sitting there, in parliament/senate/congress, setting the directions of our respective nations...

My main online name was Apostate which is why you will see that on my steam posts. However I started having a lot of competition for it as the idea became more popular. Darn new atheists I guess. Anyway Stellar 7 was an old wire frame 3d tank shooter on my Commodore 64. I picked it as a Handel, but spelled it wrong ages ago and I decided to stick with it.

I recognized it! I read many of Moorcock's series as a kid. They used to be on the shelves at Waldenbooks and other bookstores. Sadly haven't seen them at Barnes and Noble or Books a Million.

Anyone into Fantasy should check him out. He wrote several series with different characters but all sort of tied together in an Order vs Chaos thing. Many people here have probably heard of Elric of Melnibone and his soul-drinking black sword, Stormbringer. Certainly Moorcock's most famous character, but there is a series called the Chronicles of Corum that are also excellent.
