Way back when I first got into online gaming the first thing I was getting into was a Korean MMO, and I really wanted to think up a cool name for a mage. This is the result and I've stuck with it and variations of it, for most online games I've played.
Edit: Apprently I'm atrocious at spelling on mobile.

mine is from a line in the movie Papillon. I chose it because I want my "posting about political stuff" name, to be completely unrelated to my "playing computer games" name.

Jester was the first name I used when I set up games of Unreal Tournament with my nephew on a local LAN. When I started playing online (first Halo then Battlefield 2, etc) I took the name with me. As Jester seems to be a popular name I started to add some letters at the end relating to the game I am registering for to make it unique (hence JesterWoW, JesterBF2, JesterMW2, etc).

Jester suits my gaming attitude, having fun and not taking things too seriously. I use a version of my real name when I am playing driving games as I do take those more seriously.

Just a fairly uncommon word that I thought described my intended playstyle in the first MMO I played. Small, fast, and hard to pin down. The fact that it called to mind an image of a tiny rodent with its legs paddling as fast as possible helped. The name stuck and so I use it just about everywhere now.

In starcraft back in 98, My Nick was Je'Cy of Tukira, But my online buddy said it was to much of a pain to type so it became Je'Cy

then in 2003 i started playing the greatest MMO ever made called SWG.. my Name was Je'Cy Dax But people called me Je, or JC, sadly that game ended and the name was unused a few years. But then this came along and in 2012 I registered this one So i went with the latter JC as that is what most people called me.. i then took Dax and sorta merged it with Davion as it sounded a bit more mech warriorish

Now i also have a Dirty Clanner account, so i flipped it.. To CJ Daxion My alter-ego's Alter-ego Posted Image

PS, tractor Joe is a redneck? You don't say! Posted Image I've played with ya many times in game in pugs, and it has always been a pleasure.. Lurm away Joe, i got your locks!

Zink was the name of my first successful AD&D (dungeons and dragons) character. 1701 is part of the Enterprise registration (NCC1701). I'm a geek and proud of it lol

Been using Eversor (WH 40k assasin name) and F.A.K.K.2 (Heavy metal magazines) since my starting days on online gaming.

Back in the day before getting into college here in spain we had mandatory Latin classes so i found that Eversor means Annihilator and tought it was a fitting and not know name for the early days of Quake 1 and 2 Slaugther.

Several years later while playing in a Lan with some friends someone just shout *Dammit Eversor how Perversor you are!!*
(in fact perverso means perverse in spanish) since then it become quite a running joke and since it means Corruptor in latin the name somehow stuck on me. The Lord part was added when i used to play some RTS games like AoEII or similars.

The most funny thing is that in my current group of friends we are 4-6 guys with the very same first name, so call ourselves by the nicks become pretty much mandatory as everytime anyone tried to call one of us we ended answering all 4-6 at once leading to ludicrous situations.

Mine comes from many years ago when I was with some friends, trying to coming up with a callsign for Wing Commander... we just pressed on the keyboard and something like ajerwkl;werlk; came out...

So I decided to use it here, since I was playing MechWarrior just about when I was playing Wing Commander.

And it has the nice side effect of being a simple name people can call me: "Ajer". :)

OP, this is a great thread -- thank you for starting it!!

I played Battletech tabletop way way back when it was being first sold at Gen Con in Milwaukee. I was hooked. We would get together once a week for decades now and play tabletop Battletech.

My mech company commander's name is John Archer. He is still alive and in charge of an RCT now. Yep, I used the name before they even conceived of Star Trek Enterprise. :P

Oh and the mech he favors? The Archer mech of course.

Comes from my first MMO Ultima Online. I was looking for a name for my first char, a blacksmith.
Wieland is the german name of a blacksmith from myths.
Used it since then for all my online chars.

You call it unselfish, I call it being a team player. :)

There is a reason why on the "what Mech are you" I got the Centurion in my first pass... :)

Needless to say, a few thousand rounds later and after we made a high speed pass through the valley, there wre several hundred dead sheep and one VERY pissed off sheep herder lol
We apparently scared his sheep when we came into the valley and he was shooting in the air to warn us off.

Suddenly your play-style makes perfect sense... Posted Image

I'm pretty sure mine is self explanatory. Been using it since the dawn of aliases and screen names.

Although many people think that I just spelled licorice wrong...

When I first ventured into the world of online gaming, it was on the original black brick of the XBox. At the time I was working for a car tuner/modifier/body shop that specialised in Peugeot cars by the name of Peugeot Ecosse; the nickname for Peugeots in the UK/Europe is a PUG.

The company offered engine transplants and one of them was a 405 T16 engine into virtually anything you wanted. The day I logged into XBox Live was also the first time I had driven a T16 engined Peugeot 306; IT WAS AWESOME!!! :D

I was primarily interested in racing games such as Forza and PGR, so the gamer tag PUG T16 was born. Eventually I swapped to PC gaming and MWO, the T16 no longer held relevance and it was inevitably shortened to just PUG but this was already taken and the xX - Xx had to be added.

Oh how I didn't understand what a PuG was in PC gaming and the confusion that ensued from the countless players berating "me" over teamspeak and chat...... "What have I done wrong?" I used to think :P

So there you go, a longish and boring reason for me being called PUG but here is a picture of the original PUG T16. A group B rally car, that was basically nuts. If you're old enough to remember these, you know what I mean. If you're too young, Google it or search YouTube for the 405 T16 Pike Peaks video......
