Best thing is a light fast lrm boat with a little brawler mixed in. Had a Jenner running for his life in my griffin 2n.

But I was surprised to not encounted fully 12man premade all the time. Since FW doesn't count I expected all the guildies to farm us poor PUGs.

This behavior is no different than any other event I've seen. Especially lights. Did I use lrm to complete this event? Yes I did. Did it net me a ton of kmdd? Not really. If the other team is being mindful of their surroundings, lrm boats have a tough go. Pay attention to where you are fighting: open plain = lrm city and cover = wasted lrm ammo for the opponent. Best match I had with my lrm boats was 3 kills 4 kmdd and 5 assists. Had 2 like that. Other than those it was 1 or 2 per match. Had a 3 kmdd in my dakka crab.
The only weight class I see having an issue is the lights. Very few lights are all about the damage.

Yet again it's another event based on doing damage; but now it's doing damage to a single target at a time. As a dedicated light pilot it's not really hard to see why this is an issue, especially when the queues have been +50% for heavies for all of my games so far. Most lights just can't produce the alphas (and thusly the damage) to outperform their heavier counterparts; and having the endurance to go toe-to-toe with said larger opponents to get that damage is not a luxury we possess. It's not conducive to the hit-and-run tactics of lighter mechs. I'm obviously not alone in this believe either, given the queue values. I even had a game of 5 assaults, 5 heavies, 1 medium, and 1 light.
I understand that the event is to do something different and get people out there; but really this is just taking one facet of the old, obsolete, and very obnoxious tournament scoring system (with the convoluted survive + win + dmg - team dmg + assists + kills + kmdd + solo kills . . . then insert convoluted values and formula = score) and making an entire event built around it.
This concept has also brought out terrible behavior in people (like all similar events have done): Shielding enemies with their own mechs to prevent team damage from overtaking theirs, trying to milk mechs for all they're worth to ensure that KMDD, or even leaving allies to die when they know someone else has done more damage to a mech than them.
Personally, I prefer the concept of cumulative match score more. It rewards everyone and all types of play styles. We've also seen it utilized very well in a scant few events so far, but it was used to great effect. We finally have a match score system that encompasses all facets of gameplay and we've barely seen it utilized for anything other than displaying in-match performance at the end of a round. Please, seriously consider using it for more events out there over this kind of system.

Most of the time the best bet for a light is to get to them mech first and kill it before the lurms get rolling.
Those complaining about this being worst event are probably the ones that complain about lurm boats kill stealing when it was all about kills.
You can call it selfish not to lock but as long as the lurm boats sit back in comfort and easy mode while brawlers try to scrape it out I am fine with not targeting...
And remember, if some guy on your team calls for a push and he's in the back, call his bluff and back up and hide behind him...
The best attitude for events like this is that no one will help you and everyone want what you want... but for themselves.
I know that sounds terrible but there is a reason why I call these events "The Douchening part X"

Oh trust me, I know. I'm finally getting around to mastering my Jenner IIC's, with the last one in line (the one I just got to) being the "prime". I'm hoping the massive SRM payload it carries will bring me some better results then the "2" that I just finished mastering.
I agree with the naming convention for the events, sadly. That's why I advocate for more events having cumulative progression based on things like match score. Then all play styles are rewarded and people don't need to be in such a rush to be jerks to everyone around them.

I tell you a story of a little event/challenge/tournament long long ago... it was called To the Victors.
Here you can check the qualifying conditions. http://mwomercs.com/...?t=201411victor
You have now such excelent qualifying conditiong because this long time players went to hell and back, and constantly complained about such strange qualifying conditions, and PGI took long time to listen. But finally they listened, and I find this qualifying conditions once of the best they ever had.
So when it comes to me NO retroactive calculating of the scores and no overtime for you Sir.
Be happy and glad that you hadn't have to play the To the Victors challenge.
PS: The accumulative Matchscore is a good Scoring-Formula too.

1 kill, 1 assist, win, SURVIVE. Just 20 points. Holy God...Took me 2 days and 97 matches.
But it still doesn't compare to Territorial Control. Match points had to be 200-400 and victory BASED ON THE MAP! Some people needed only one map to go and never got it, or blew the match when they finally DID get it. Both in CW AND pug cue.
It was bad. REALLY bad.
---
But, THIS challenge? Two me two days, and I won it all.
Not too shabby. Cicada is more capable than I thought. Got 3 kill most damage dealts with it without feeling like I had to kill myself to do it. Consistent fire on target. Not bad.

Found Ballistics and SRMs got the points better than Energy so the A was not as useful.
Did not even have to change my style from the usual.

When match ends, check the middle box of your Personal Stats screen for Kill Most Damage Dealt.
Then check the Team Stats to see if your Match Score is 100+.
If so, each Kill Most Damage Dealt you got count as a point.

Greetings MechWarriors,
We hope you are enjoying the Like a Champion Mark III event! Just wanted to drop a note here to let you know the scoring is now 100% accurate.
First I want you to know I personally tested the scoring when this event when live. I had a solid match in my meta BJ-1X getting 3 KMDD, surviving and winning the match. I earned 3 points and was quite pleased with myself. (I'm Tier 4 so, not a humble brag)
Initially, we noticed the event page was not an accurate reflection of the event scoring system. This was fixed Thursday and all was good in the land.
Then we(you) noticed that KMDD was not counting when players had died and started spectating.
This morning we ran a stealth fix on the dedicated servers to address this issue. Again all is now good in the land.
Now this event is now firing on all cylinders.
Unfortunately, it is not retroactive. (Boo!)
But!
If you are still working your way to earning your prizes do so with confidence. (Yay!)
This event has a bumpy start. However, I am really liking the new scoring mode, Kill Most Damage Dealt circumvents kill stealing nicely and lets players earn more that one point per match. (something you have been asking for)
Anyways, that's it from me.
What are you doing still reading this?
Don't just stand there get back out there and prove you have what it takes to play...Like a Champion.
Sincerely,
Matt Newman
I think this is the best contest PGI has ever run. Since people are trying for the damage, I see tons of Assaults on the field again and the battle is alot more fun. MY only complaint is the champion... a cicada really? I prefer 75 ton + mechs personally. lol

Overall it's been a very fun event. Seems like people are really playing well and I've had a lot more close matches that went 10-12 or 11-12. There is still the occasional 12-3 stomp, but many of the games have been much closer. Personally, I've been playing a bit more risky, I think my favorite match was on Alpine Peaks I was brave enough (or stupid enough) to go chase down an Atlas at near full health in my HBK-4SP and brawl with him. Managed to take him out and get a solo kill, and KMDD and still be reasonably intact. I would have never tried that had I not been motivated to get the KMDD. For better or for worse, it's forced me to try different playing styles and has been a lot of fun.

That's my man. DId the same thing for me. Ballistics and streaks did it for me too. Hunchback IIc has my vote for fun and dishing out some damage before I know I go pop.
