At least in case of LRMs 20% more of your rockets reach your target if you have Artemis, with SRMs it's all manual targeting anyway.

It gives a considerable spread reduction actually, especially on SRM6s. Basically you go from hitting CT and both side torsos of an Awesome equally to hitting all CT with maybe an SRM to either side torso every odd firing.
If you have an Atlas S running quad SRM6s, you can see a massive difference in spread when you put Artemis on, in fact you'd be getting less spread than normal SRM4s if i remember correctly.
It almost sounds like you don't use SRMs all too much.

The kill zone gets much tighter.

It should give increased crit chance to SRMs and direct fired LRMs like the targeting computer does for energy/ballistics

SRM-6/LRM-15/LRM-20 Artemis is a must because of the spread.
SRM-6 gains the most, LRM-20 gains the least because its just a huge blob either way.
I always thought Artemis increasing velocity by 15-20% would be a nice addition too.

A recent patch reduced the spread for all SRM/ASRM launchers, which changed the picture a little. I'd definitely not put Artemis on SRM 2's -- the spread is already minimal. Post-patch I'd also not put it on SRM 4's -- the spread isn't too bad, so I'd save the tonnage. Pre-patch Artemis was considered mandatory on SRM 6's -- but now I consider SRM 6's borderline useful without Artemis, although you can still only hit a single component at point blank range.
However, the answer can also depend on how good you are at targetting with SRM's. If you're super good at leading and can hit individual components well, you're likely to put the Artemis to better use. If you're like me and can't hit with them anyway, the shotgun effect can actually be useful.

3x SRM6, 3x SRM4+A, or 3x SRM4 + something else?
I generally don't like to downgrade the engine.
Since smurfy is down, try building a Highlander HGN-733C later with 1x JJ, AC/20 (3t of ammo), 2x ML, and SRMs.
