If CW was on these kinds of maps, I'd play it more.

My girlfriend is obsessed with plants vs. zombies on her phone, currentCW reminds me of that. I haven't touched it in over a year.

The problem I have with the map is that it is the only one of its kind. No other map do I feel I have to worry so much about what mech build I'm bringing.

I don't dislike the map, but I don't think I'll be able to like it, until more maps require a similar thought, builds.

My only problem is that the map is designed for a playstyle I am awful at. Long range fighting is just not my thing, and I cringe everytime the map shows up in the selection screen.

I haven't played it enough to really form an opinion about it, but after taking a stroll around the map in testing grounds, I see it has the same issue as Bog. It's visually boring. Sure the textures are nice, but there are no major landmarks or features to break up the terrain or to serve as call outs in chat. When you say saddle or garage on Crimson Strait, people know what you mean. There's very little here that stands out.

What I like most about the map is that it's the enemy dictating where you can and can't go, and not the map. There are no strict 'lanes' you must follow.

it's great...unless you are myopic, inflexible and married to overspecialized mech builds.

So...sounds perfect to me!

it's also great for lights. So i can unleash my inner mad man.

That's kind of the point though, no central feature where everybody rushes to fight at. I don't hate Terra, Crimson or Alpine but I loathe the same boring as **** matches where only 20% of the map is used.

polarizing

So talking to lots of people and reading lots of comments I have come to one firm conclusion. That conclusion is that Polar Highlands is by far the most polarizing map we have ever had pardon the pun.

People seem to have very strong opinions about this map both good and bad and there seems to be very little middle ground.

It doesn't matter if you actually have a moderate criticism of the map, forum blowhards will strawman your opinion to make it sound like you hate every last pixel on the entire map.

Scouts are very important on this map. So, if u have a fast light mech, pls do it and report the team where the enemy is! It would be my favorable map because it feels like a mw4 map. But with LRMs and how they work at the moment...

Heavy on the LRMs and unplayable.

Map sucks. Needs cover.

There is plenty of cover and it's everywhere, use it.

Won a match with an all brawler team (with no ecm) against the typical lrm boats. Had to maneuver ourselves through the trenches until we could get within range of them. Then pushed.

Seen a lot of bad play too though. I've seen people ignore enemy uav's which is a death sentence, peek over hills forgetting the whole 3.5 sec target degradation module, nascaring into ultra long congo lines, etc. Yeah, don't do any of that.

Polar Highlands would make a fantastic PVE map. Grounds for a really nice large PVE battle.

I get it. However, landmarks don't have to be tactically important. A few outcroppings with unique color/texture. A one of a kind building instead of the same old tower/office/fuel tank setup. Something that serves as a visual reference.

Now that I've played a few more matches on PH, I like it. I just think it could be a bit more interesting.

I'm looking forward for to seeing this map used in the competitive scene. It offers a lot of potential ways to win. Creative Drop commanders will have a field day with this map. It reminds me of the large MW4 maps we used for league back in the day.
