In all seriousness, plz fix the terrain. There is no way in flippin hell a 2-3 ft rocks should be stopping a 100 Ton Atlas.

I as well as a lot of people on here are sick of attempting to be mobile only to be stopped by ridiculous terrain.

Honorable mentions .. Forest Colony and Viridian Bog.

thought id toss this out there.

They definitely need to fix the hillclimbing archetypes. Assaults are punished way too much. You should not have to f-ing waddle to get up a hill. And you should be able to step over pipes/vines/pebbles without difficulty.

It's not that the rock can't be stomped, it's that certain mechs like the Atlas are afraid of rocks. It's like a person that is afraid of a mouse and jumps up on a chair. If the Atlas had jump jets, it would leap up on a cliff out of the way, but sadly, in it's terror, all it can do is freeze in place and refuse to go forward.

Try to be more considerate of your mech's phobias. It's a serious problem for them.

i dont think its neccisary to give every rock every shipping container every crate its own collision box. these are more decorative doodads and shouldn't really be messing with the game play. unless of course it goes away when you step on it.

Don't forget the anti-mech fences in River City.

Not disagreeing as I've gotten hung plenty but at the same token I and an awful lot of other players have managed to play through/with the terrain issues.

I've often wondered how players get hung so consistanly when my experience is a rarity. Not saying your doing anything wrong... It doesn't seem to mirror mine.

Does anybody remember those indestructible statues in the old River City, just in front of the Town Hall?

For that matter - Vitric Forge. Spawn as defender, take the ramp next to the wall on the right side. Anything less than 54KPH - gets stuck at the top. You have to turn around and find the other ramp. VERY ANNOYING.

I really now want a picture of a squieking Atlas on a chair looking down onto a small pebble on the floor.

I'm divided on this matter. Being stopped dead by a tiny rock or root sucks, true, specially in a very slow mech like an Atlas. But we can always drive something smaller and more agile, at the cost of firepower, armor, or both.

I think they put those kinds of terrain obstacles to hinder or slow down those fast lights. Which I guess they do a little.

But they are murder on the already slow assault mechs

I sometimes wonder why mech armour is not made out of the same thin perforated metal plate that many obstacles seem to be made of. Small cars and shipping containers are great armour too. They can even dead stop a 100 mech.

I am not sure. The last days I reequipped AMS on many mechs and viola... If more people would have AMS on board and stick to the ecm-carriers LRMs are less a problem.

Playing tactically smart works wonders. Let me guess..you're referring to polar highlands?
This map totally rocks because of it's tactical possibilities

Wrong thread? (and on the topic of sticking with ECM carriers, unless its the Atlas one, they tend be lights, and thus out run you anyway, especially as ECM range is only 90m).

Back on topic:

I've been levelling DWFs and KCGs recently, and have been caught and killed several times with <100 DMG due to being stuck on something.

Its not just little pebbles, but also slopes. I pick what looks like the most shallow path, and find I can't get up it part way up. But when I pick what looks steeper slightly to the side, I get up it fine, especially if I waddle a bit. EG Alpine G9 going up to flank the people sitting on top of the hill from our left / defenders right.

Slow me down, by all means. Its an obstacle after all. But to stop me dead on something so low I can't even see it when looking down?? When its a small static object? REALLY?

I didn't seem to struggle so much about 6 months ago when I mastered ZEUs, nor 14 months ago when I masters STKs. So it seems maybe its speed related, since I install 300 or 320 rated engines on those "light" assault mechs and thus go much faster as a function of less weight? Might just be coincidence...

Dear PGI:

Please sirs, can my Mechs handle like bipedal creatures instead of soccer mom minivans?

Earnestly,

My running theory...The infamous statues of River City were dumped on some backworld planet (Caustic Valley) and landed on and around a volcano. This created impenetrable and immovable obstacles designed to stop and screw heavy and assault pilots. Stay away from the crater.

You used to be able to move around the volcano, now it mostly poptarts on only 1 corner of the caldera.

As someone who plays light mechs as much as assaults, it kinda goes both ways. Light mechs without jump jets can also get stuck on rocks, but standing still for a split second has a lot more dire consequences for a sniping Locust that reversed into the wrong pebble. With 16 armour on your side torso and 10 structure points, you're always one second away from instagib.

In other words, both my Locust and my Highlander would be happy if PGI removed the hitboxes for pebbles.

Don't change hillclimb though. Hillclimbing penalties are fine.

Yea... not like jumpjets were invented for a reason.
