max XL engine to float like a butterfly
4 MG and a small pulse laser to... sting like a butterfly. 0 heat issues on any map, and with quirks, allows near continuous fire of the small pulse, so constant sustained DPS, as long as your ammo holds out
This version drops the AMS for more MG ammo. I've used a similar build on a shadowcat and have almost drained the ammo reserves

If you know how to use this 20 tons locust you will be really dangerous, and with the quircks it now has, is really well balanced. The poor armor in legs is not a real problem because I have tested people cant shoot locusts legs so easily...whenever you are in movement...hehe

By using only the right arm the other one can save weight.
MPL as main weapon make this build less ammo dependent (hopefully the Locust can survive that long) while SRM4 supporting weapon provides good compromise of power/reload time.
I've chosen the 170XL engine to get 1/2 extra ton of ammo - for beginners (& me) that is fast enough.
The 190XL engine is also viable with slightly less ammo, however hey, lets spare some room for future improvements of the champion owners.

6x slas
10 DHS
90% armor
yes a 190 STD. If the Locust is ever put in a mastery pack the Pirate's Bane will have the 190XL so having a niche engine is not really a downside.
The reach is quite a bit better than splas and still allows you to be fast and cool.
If you want something more meta maybe a 190XL, no ferro with 2x mlas + 4x slas.

I run that build, but I don't know if I would call it new player friendly as the Champions are supposed to be. I gotta think running the XL with 6SPL, ML or any combination thereof would be better for a new player. In a mech this small the std give no real survival benefit in my experience.

It doesn't utilize all the tonnage, but it's about the best build I've seen for this LCT. It has max armor, the biggest engine you can cram in there, and 5xSPLs. It's a great ankle biter and makes a decent hit-and-run striker.

you never lose ST in a locust, you usually die in the CT and occasionally get legged or lose an arm.

4ML gives same firepower as 5SPL with extra range.
Toss up if it should be on the 1E or 3M, I chose 1E for quirks.

4ML != 5 SPL with extra range. If you are only counting alphas, yes. But for actual max and sustained DPS? Far from it.

LuRMs because nubs love/hate LuRMs. 30% cooldown & 15% heat gen for missiles, still has pewpew with range/cooldown quirks. The funny thing is this
