4ML != 5 SPL with extra range. If you are only counting alphas, yes. But for actual max and sustained DPS? Far from it.
I see a Locust with TAG not being DPS focused but if noticed, using Alphas while running then finding a new spot to TAG from.
I admit, I find it odd no one put up a sniper 1E. Sure, people usually think the 1V for rapid fire and there's Fred013's 1M but the 1E has high arm mounts allowing excellent peeking while not exposing legs at least.

Alternatively ML+AMS combo: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d9990949cd48d7c
The latter build has higher alpha and offers double AMS on top.

Or alternatively, just go to this thread
https://mwomercs.com...errated-locust/
and literally pick any build from there at random. Half the suggestions here are .... problematic, either for new players, or for the mechs.
Here is a man who speaks truth
Interestingly, the 5 ml build seems to have garnered a good bit of support on the underrated locust thread for its new player friendliness even though the 6 spl build is the favored build for many of the experienced locust pilots

AC 2 CT (centered if possible)
Small laser RA
Small laser LA
1 ton AC 2 ammo RT
1 Jump Jet RT
1 Jump Jet LT
2 Heat Sinks RL
2 Heat Sinks LL
XL Engine 160
I enjoy the locust and I believe that this variant would make an excellent light sniper, adding some versatility to this popular Mech.

Or are you just rolling?
A Champion is a pre-optimised existing variant with an XP boost.
The 3M has no Ballistic hardpoints, no Locust has Jump Jets (and it'd make them worse)
XL160 is a suboptimal engine (same weight as a 170, but worse).
Youve got it with Single Heat Sinks.
you've only left 2T for armour (Ideal is 3T)
I... just...

1st:
Backstabber - LCT-1E with 6SPL, 190XL, AMS, Half-ton AMS ammo, Endo, DHS, 107/138 Fero-Armor
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...85b83727a2cbc05
- Trimmed armor with AMS to be a team asset. More AMS for new player teams is a good thing, and good habit to get into for the amount of LRMs in lower Tiers. Another step towards herd immunity from LRM spam. Even if the new player isn't ultimately effective with the Locust 1E, it will provide light damage reduction for the team from LRMs.
- With only 1/2 ton of AMS ammo, this isn't going overboard on AMS to the detriment of DPS. Just some early match anti-LRM assistance.
- Prefer crit padding heatsinks. One DHS for each arm, and one for the shoulder with AMS.
- 1E is a variant not automatically owned by those who have the Phoenix pack. Giving those with the Phoenix packs reasons to run the trial from time to time or make an impulse purchase on an inexpensive champion.
- No TAG! New Locust pilots need to be hit and run. Not stand around and TAG for pickup players. Especially with trial mechs. Leave NARC and target painting to the Ravens.
- This build does NOT rely on current quirks to be effective. Even with evolving quirks, this will be a solid little ankle biter and backstabber.

I absolutely love my 1V, 3V and 1M, but I wouldn't wish them on someone new to the platform.
Of course the 1E is the star of the laser spew, but it there is no point in having a 6 ML Locust, and 6 ML Jenner champion - laser vomit is tedious enough as it is, at least mix it up some.

I would put the TAG in an arm, higher mount, allows peeking over terrain hiding your fragile legs from shots.

That's pretty much why people don't suggest it. The only thing it has going for it is that she has the tankiness of a 35 ton light.
