Anything less than 3 ER-PPC on her is just wrong. Therefore you'll need to give her a greater heat reduction and other ER-PPC buffs. In honesty I recommend near or even the same buff that the Thunderbolt once had. Unlike the Thunderbolt the AWS is much wider, easier to hit, poor hit boxes, and low firing for the PPCs. Therefore even with same buffs she will never be as good as the ER-PPC meta Thunderbolt. But at least she will be know again for the 80t ER-PPC master.

Too Much of a Good Thing? - AWS-8Q - 4x PPC (Chain fire), 3x SPL (Group fire), 300STD, 18 DHS, Endo
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...22f0907d128dfa3
- With the PPC Heat quirks, you can chain fire the PPCs all day with no worry.
- On cool running long range maps like Polar and Alpine. You can even Alpha strike those foolish mechs that stand in the open at long range. Without instant shutdown.
- 3x SPL, while not a powerhouse, is a sufficient punch to finish off a damaged component at close range. And quite heat friendly.

This build is now more viable than ever with the changes to SRMs and the removal of ghost heat on 4SRM6. It's a solid robot that deserves more attention.
Edit: The current meta makes brawling a lot more practical, and this plays well to the Awesome's strengths, both in terms of ability to carry this firepower, and deliver it effectively in a fairly manoeuvrable package.

This is a solid example of the problems of this "whoever gets the most votes wins" strategy. The linked build is an absurd joke that couldn't kill a legged Locust, and yet, because of trolls, it has the most votes so far on this thread. While obviously PGI will ignore this build - assuming they want to sell a single one of these mechs - it still proves the absurdity of the internet and just how many people get their laughs out of useless trolling vs. contributing even a single idea of merit. Meanwhile, countless other builds don't have a single vote in their favor. Come on, guys - it's not that funny. Grow up.

It really takes a pair to assume that you're completely correct against a majority.

Imho number 1 and 2 are the most appropriate builds even for rookies.
Their weapon systems are not overcharging and they both have a solid heat efficiency, therefore they're pretty good to handle.
As an experienced Awesome-Pilot I would strongly recommend those two!
The thing is, once people vote for your post, then you have to repost it again to find out what people want, and it may end up being that collective votes outdo all the other mech designs, yet none individually have as many votes as other individual designs.
Maybe make a separate post for each one? As an aside, heat is exactly why I like old school mech designs. You have bite at any range, and if you lay off the alpha strikes, you can control heat at any range.

@Alardus: While I think your statement isn't wrong, afaik the champion builds are also made for newbies that don't have that much experience and therefore consider to buy an already good mech, without the need to rebuild it. That's why I think heat is important and shouldn't be to high. Also too many weapon systems in a mech are just too complicated to deal with as a rookie. These Awesomes are both well balanced and present the Awesome in a good light.

Thanks for the compliment. We all know that build is worthless - nobody considers viable an Awesome with: 1 flamer, 1 LRM 20, 1 SRM 2, 1 S-SRM 2, 1 small laser, 1 PPC, a command console, and single heat sinks. We all known damn well that the majority doesn't actually think such a build is viable. They just think it's "funny" because "huhuhuh... sucky weapons... .huhuhuh..." or have some sad hope of shooting noobs running such a build, because that's apparently "funny."
Posting drek like that is not funny. It's like posting "boogers" as a forum post then snickering because you posted a "naughty" word. What's even less funny is watching all the children "like" the post, as if PGI is going to actually make that trash build into a champion mech. A total waste of a time and prime example of why a popularity contest for mech builds simply doesn't work when too many people would rather troll vs.contribute.

"Sword and broad" version with both LPL on one arm, trading 1t of SRM ammo for 1 extra DHS.
3t ammo give you a good 25 alphas, down from the 33 alpha of 4t ammo.
The LPL will likely end up as the primary weapon, they being the only "ranged" and pin-point weapon on the loadout, the extra DHS will help in the long run.

This is a "lite" version of the 8Q I run, with much better heat profile.
It still retain 8Q's signature dual PPC in the sides.
The third PPC is removed to free up weight for 2 medium laser and 3 small pulse laser, making the 8Q dangerous even when up close.

Once again, as we troll through all the builds, no one really looks at what a new player feels when handling one of these mechs for the first time. When you break it most of these down, it all comes to 'Me! Me! Me!' builds. We understand that builds work for you. We understand that you want to popularize your style. We all do.
First and foremost, we have to think of the new players just jumping in and trying to figure out what to do. We have to consider what they are going to feel as well piloting in a game. PGI WANTS them to stay. PGI WANTS them to invite more people. So when we build these mechs for Trials we have to think about what would keep these players hooked and wanting more. I have seen a few builds that are all nice, but we don't want our new players to die immediately, get frustrated, and quit playing.
So, as I posted in the Vindy forum, most will demolish this build. I have played since Alpha and Beta and live in a house with 5 other people. Now this entire house plays MWO. When I build a mech, I think about what my roomies went through learning the ropes to play and what they liked and disliked. Now PGI has five more players that spend money for their products.
Just an opinion from a Veteran player.

Perhaps you could describe how you saw new players approach the game, being so close to them. Maybe there's different types of new players out there. Most people that you might want to "hook" come from other games where they run around solo and snipe kills off the other side one at a time. The assault class is inherently against that type of play. I think the appropriate approach is to give a mix of long and medium or long and short range weapons, since assault mechs generally should have those. You want frustration, try playing the current champion atlas and getting hosed from long range with no response.
Assaults aren't newbie friendly, because going the right direction at all times is critically important not to get left behind, or put yourself in a no win position. With a champion medium or light, you can run off if you screw up moderately. On top of that, PGI made the decision to bind torso twist speed (and thus, target capture ability) to engine size, forcing the game into an area where you need higher rated engines to have a hope of some twitch based response attack to enemies. This decision inherently fights the assault chassis idea which is to trade linear speed and turning rate for armor and firepower. Newbies getting into a slow assault will be even more frustrated that they can't seem to track and shoot enemies due to torso twist speed being foolishly bound to engine size.
Anyway, as far as that goes, I think the issue is rather moot to point out, that people want to encourage "their playstyle" to be used or something, because if people vote for the one they find the most newbie friendly it doesn't matter.

8Q. 3 large ER laser. 4 medium pulse. I use a version of it with standard everything and only 16 heat sinks and it runs fine. The quirk of EN range give medium pulses almost as much range as regular mediums on other mechs.
It was built in mind to keep speed up, be able to do full damage at varying longer ranges, and have some real punch at close range to tackle other heavy mechs or lights. It might be a good introductory mech for teaching people "sniping", which is what the original 3 PPC design is for. It is also suitably zombie.
