Just preordered one, damn expensive.

I hope the price point doesn't change PGI's desire to work on making MWO compatible in the future.

How much? I saw $600 today. I'm going to hold out though, first gen and all...

At that price I can't justify it given its gimmickiness and 1st gen tech. Maybe version 2 after all the bugs get worked out and more content is available for it.

Normally I'd say this, but I believe that they truly "spared no expense" on this one in order to make a good first impression, so likely the next model will be cheaper, but also "cheaper" in order to make it so.

I want one but I would have to build a new rig too, so that would get quite expensive.

Yeah I updated my GPU specifically for this and I've got the $600 burning a hole in my wallet but I don't share Clint's optimism. These first gen units almost always have issues. Seriously though Clint, good luck. it looks so dope for MWO, personally can't wait.

Ordered the original dev kit way back when... it works ok but its resolution was way too low @1280×800

So for MWO it was pretty much unusable, tried few games but it was pixel mess. (Not to mention crosshairs etc were at least then a bit off)
For flight sims (warthunder etc) it was definitely fun and resolution did not bother that much, actually me gawking at odd angles for attacking planes above me was probably as much fun for onlookers as for me Posted Image

You couldn't really pull all night playing because you do eventually get sort of motion sickness or just "start feeling weird".

Will be interested to hear if this current generation resolution brings it up to usable region for MWO.

Good thread, I was going to start a similar one asking what people who got to go to the Steam Launch Party thought about it.

I too will likely wait for second generation.

I got really sad when I saw the price... 350, 400 would be a fair price...

I think at one point they said they were going for a price of $300. I figured that was a bit unrealistic but didn't think it would be double that either.

Yeah I'll pick on up when they drop to $300. That's how much I spend for computer components.

Yeah, would have loved it if it was closer to the 300 dollar mark.

I do tend to spend a bit much on components myself, particularly if they make my experience more immersive. Loved looking around my cockpit in race sims i've played on the DK2. Can't wait to get in a plane or even better a Mech ;)

Agreed. I've been an Oculus fanboy for years now, but I can't afford that. $350 would've been my limit and this is almost 2x beyond that. Maybe gen 2 will be cheaper as technology costs depreciate.

Shame about the total rip-off price of the rift - Was kinda looking forward to playing this game in VR - Now by the time we have an affordable VR headset this game will be long-dead...

Yeah, right!

Head Tracking? Are you writing the software/drivers?
PC Interface? Are you wiring the hardware and writing the software/drivers?

can use FreeTrack for free, its open source software/drivers
you just have to build an arduino box for the head tracker, which is like $30 for the boards but all the instruction you need to do it is available online and theres youtube videos on how to build it

can pretty much build your own oculus rift using an old smartphone for 10% of the cost. it might not be as good but its only 10% of the cost lol.

plus in a few months everyone is going to have their own oculus clones on the market... the reason why oculus rift is charging a high premium is because they can, because of all the instant gratification dummies that want it now.
