Once again I find myself compelled to use the + variant even though I'd prefer another.

It's the one with the 1 ballistic gun arm, 3 energy in the left torso and 3 missile hardpoints: one in the right torso and two in the left arm, each with 20 tubes.

What are you doing with it? Or what would you do with it?

I put an UAC20, 2 LrgPls and 3 Lrm5 in, just to get the challenge complete. Its really hard for me to have fun in this mech :/

XL325, UAC20, 2xLPL, 3xSRM6+A. It is a bit too hot for my liking but as an ambusher it does ok

2xLPL is a good idea, thanks.

I had tried 2 ERPPC, but the requisite heat sinks just take too much weight and space. 3 ERML or 3 MPL are, well, they are not main weapons but they are nothing to sneeze at, either.

The trouble with the UAC/20, which seems an obvious choice especially since I can't get comfortable with the Gauss, is that this mech is so slow. I found myself not getting in range to use the gun all that often. SRMs and SSRMs have kind of the same problem.

Try an UAC10, the range is much better. Gauss doesnt really work, because of the low hardpoint location :/
And PPC's...i tryed Gauss+2 C-ER PPC rest DHS. Even then the heat is absurd.

I'm eye balling this. It makes me glad I passed on the Heavy Metal. This looks way more fun!

I run 2 mpl, ac 10 (3 tons ammo), tag, bap, 3 lrm 15 wth artemis and 7 tons ammo. Drop the jumpjets, leave it slow. Not a great brawler at all but in a push with a whale or king crab can really dish out some damage from that second line while takeing a bit in return. I hate LRM assaults in most people's hands, playing this mech at 200 400 range though is fun. If only it had better hit boxes I would straight brawl in it.

There is no reason to take a standard engine in a clan mech. Clan XL engines do not explode when one side torso is lost. Either the center torso or both side torsos have to be lost.

When I was getting basic XP on this variant, I did something like this, and it was wicked:

I can't remember exactly the ammo and heat sinks, but it was those weapons.

I run 2LPL, GR and 2 LRM20a

It's a mech that's designed to stay at 500-700m, chain fire the LRM 20s, fire the LPL and GR on cool down. It's a little hot, but the heat is manageable (just stop firing the LRM20s for a bit).
I also ran it with a TAG for a while but I can't handle 4 weapon groups.

Do the IICs have case in each component as well?

This mech is a brute!
I completed the challenge very fast.

1x UAC10
2x LPLs
3x A-SRM6
XL 325
1xJJ

If you add Endo + Ferro you can even squeeze a third LPL but it is too hot imo, at least before eliting.

After a lot of play-testing, I find the UAC10 being much better than UAC20. You can actually poke if you want, but when double tapped along with the SRMs, you go straight to the fusion engine.

I would advise being careful with the Heat from LPLs though - on most non-snow maps I chain fire them.

Historically this has been my most successful of the three. I use this build:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e9113b04f746734

3xcERPPC
1xcUAC5
2xSSRM2 (to spook lights)
TCmk1
cAP
3xJJ
cXL325/Endo/DHS

It runs hot, but you can chainfire 5-6 PPCs and 4 ACs before you need to get under cover. Use buildings to side-poke. After you've softened them up, you can usually lead a successful charge. Something about 90 tons of PPCs bearing down on you makes a lot of people break. But ONLY if you already have an advantage--this ain't an atlas.

I've found in general that the HGN-IICs need to be fire support, whether direct or indirect. Anytime I slap a cUAC20 or SRMs on there I get rekked.

And since the IICs just came out for MC, I'll put my recent IIC-B build here:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9ab7621a98491d9

Ironically this is the brawliest I get in the HGN-IICs. 2xLPL, 1xGauss, 4xSSRM4. I usually put AdvZoom and Radar Derp on it. Been having a lot of fun in it lately.

Significantly different from my "traditional" B build--close missile support with 2xALRM20, 2xSSRM6, uAC10

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...97058156c29e935

Last, the IIC-A build that really made the chassis click for me:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b0eedcee79b602a

This was the inspiration for my IIC(O) build in previous post, however I play the O more than the A now, simply b/c I prefer ballistic/missile builds to laser builds.
