Melee had no place in this game

Looks like the hit boxes will be a cross between the Hunchback IIC and an Atlas. So look at the CT it looks like a match to the Hunchback IIC CT design (minus the head area). Then look at the sholders they have the curve of the Atlas. The Atlas Arms do not come down low enough to cover the legs; just like this photo of the Kodiak concept. So Yeah I can see this being the Kodiak and it looks great, but I also have a feeling it will be given similar structure quirks the Atlas received to make it a viable 100 ton mech.
It looks beasty like an Atlas and I hope it lives up to the hype of being a clan brawl 100 ton mech.

The recent IICs got no quirk so it would be weird if the Kodiak gets it at release.

Well, not MW4s apparent attempt to put beam sabers on "battle armor" twice the tonnage of the actual unit. Melee, if it's done right should be a considerably longer cooldown and generally for much less DPS than the utterly loopy stuff MekTek seemed to be putting out there.
A Kodiak punches for the same damage as an AC/10 and kicks like an AC/20. Starting a kick would trigger cooldown on both fists as well, starting a punch would trigger cooldown on a kick (but allow the other fist to swing) and shut down arm-mounted weapons until it was done. And we're talking significant cooldown here. 5+ seconds. Melee damage was tonnage/10 for punches, tonnage/5 for kicks. Missing hand/arm actuators? Your punch gets even weaker. But it'd be a nice heat-free option to deal a bit of damage up close and personal.

You guys claim that can't balance tech 2 yet... They can add melee? Which is it? Btw new weapons are new weapons...

yup, it wouldn't be game breaking, it would be conducive with lore and would enhance gameplay overall. It would be a last resort for someone to engage in melee, not the only and best choice for 99% of mechs.
the Kodiak is just another example of how Russ and PGI will continue to disregard entire aspects of the game and lore for the sake of pushing on releasing mechs to keep the money fountain going rather than actually coding and building the game.
More minimum viable product for the fanatics to throw money at, keeping people distracted from whats really happening.

No, I was expecting hitboxes on the scale of a barn door, clearly I am not disappointed. Where did you get the idea that I was expecting it to have good hitboxes?

As dirty inner sphere scum though... I need my atlas to be able to punt light mechs across the map.

It's 15 tons heavier though, so maybe not a particularly good choice for CW. But it's the best choice when you want to move at WHK/EXE speed while carrying 2Gauss+2LPL/(2ERLL+2ERML), if we get the "3" variant.

Ref mw4 melee.
Tbh a 20 ton battle armor was just too make it work in that game. If, and I stress if pgi had the programming ability, they could make melee work much better and more balanced easily. But there are more pressing issues before they even look at that, and tbh we probably won't see melee till cw phase 4 and/or hbs bt building the model and animations for a hatcherMan and/or axe man.

This from the faction the Ghost Bears kept trying to break of their axe habit.
And failed. The Ghost Bears eventually got into the whole "mashing things with massive force trauma applications" after hanging out in the FRR long enough.
Besides, it was the Jade Falcons that gave us the "incinerate enemy pilot with our jump jet" maneuver and end up the mother of the Mongol Doctrine. Hint: Much stomping happens amidst other war crimes.

Seriously? It's literally the SAME "weapons" for BOTH TECH TREES. Kodiak punches thing for 10. Atlas punches thing for 10. There isn't a difference, it'd actually be the first case where Clan and IS got to do the exact same thing.

You underestimate the amount of work that would have to go into melee. Do light mechs punch lighter than assaults? Do they take structure damage when they punch? What are the ranges? What damage do they do? What happens to components in the arm? What about mechs that dont have fists? How much damage do they do?
Tech 2 is WAY easier to add to the game than melee. We already have a third of it anyway.
