If I were PGI, I'd have given something even more attractive, like a chance to win a free Mech.

If they wanted to protect the player base we would have more to do in this game. Team death match has run its course.

yeah, but I wont. I'll likely sleep the rest of the weekend after finishing XCOM2
(took me 22 Hours with the first one, just had to make a break of one hour when my wife and kid woke up and then went to work man, that was a funny night and day)

I could barely put it down the first time as well. Was so happy to see the series come back, and while it may not have been as complex as the originals, it still had the same hooks. I ended up getting it on Xbox 360 originally, then on PC during a Steam Sale, and then on iOS because its actually not too bad on the iPhone 6+ (KOTOR too!).
This one looks nice and meaty going by the trailer they have on Steam.

I miss those days of the rocket trooper in the back going berserk on the first turn and lighting off a HE rocket inside the skyranger, completely wiping out your whole team.

Not like xp does you any good once you've got all the modules you want unlocked.
Xp is pretty much pointless and useless after a short while in this game unfortunately.
When you have over 100k experience on several mechs, all the modules you want unlocked, and nothing else to spend it on, there's not much to get excited about when it comes to double xp weekends unless you're just mastering a chassis. Then you can have that done in a couple of hours usually.

Meh. I use GXP on every mech I level. Heat unlocks at least, more for assaults and painful variants. I can't remember the last time I didn't convert on one of these weekends.

That's fine for someone who wants to spend money on exp, but the majority of players don't. So for those players, exp becomes completely useless after a period of time.
There's absolutely nothing I need exp for. Nothing.
There's nothing I WANT exp for. Nothing.
There's nothing to spend it on. I can basic a mech without double exp events within an hour typically. Sometimes 2 hours if I'm just having a bad run of games. A single winning match with a decent score from me is enough to get the heat skills unlocked, then it's just about 1-2 games for every skill after that at most.
I'm not knocking the event, events like this are great, especially for new players, but realistically exp is pointless and useless to me because there's nothing to spend it on and I'm not going to spend my MC on converting it to "gen exp"
So for me personally, double exp is no incentive to play any more than I woudl normally. There's plenty of players like that. Not because it's a bad event, but because PGI has failed to implement anything in the past 2 years to spend it on.

I may sign in and convert some, but I have 1.3 million gxp still sitting there from the last time so I really don't need any more at the moment.
