When we were all on the same server and I played more often, the change in play styles was fairly noticable as time marched on through my play sessions. Still is noticeable, to a smaller degree, even though I only play on NA server now.

I have a personal question for you Bilbo. How much armor do you put in the back of your Atlas? I still remember my battlemaster shutting down upon trying to burn though and getting wasted by your two teammates.

I have noticed a change in the way players on different servers move to contact. It does effect my playstyle; waiting on a battle to develop on the European server and joining in where the hammer falls on the American server. In group, my team does adjust, but we more concern ourselves to developing our attack.

The negative passion in the Rant was uncalled for.

Been so long since I changed it that I would have to actually pull it up in the mechlab when I get home. I think 25 on CT, and 20 on the sides. It may be 5 less all the way around though. I've never been one to front load armor on anything.

Nope...30 RCT, 24 RSTs.

As an Oceanic player, my personal experience is that us Oceanics will usually focus on the objective, rather than killing everything in sight. Can sometimes result in low payouts.

The American server tends to consist of people that will aggressively push to destroy the enemy team. Even at the cost of a win. I've also found this to be where most of the Nerdrages occur after someone suicides, um, I mean, Rambos, into the enemy team, then blames the rest of the team for not pushing, not supporting, being terribads that suck on their joystick, etc.

The European server seems to have a lot of LRMs and conservative play. And by LRMs, I don't mean LURMers sitting in a corner splashing missiles against walls, buildings, cliffs, trees, and the occasional mech. I'm referring to clear firing lanes and ambushes that you weren't even aware you had walked into, until missiles rain in from 3 different directions, and somewhere a goddamn spotter is hiding, LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU, but NEVER fires a shot. He likes to Watch....

All said and done, each server has it's own playstyle. None of them are "the Wrong Way" to play. Just different.

As a European, I've completely stopped playing on the European server. Even though my ping is only 60 on European server, as opposed to 130 on the North American Server.

The gameplay on the European server is just brutal. Nobody says anything, neither by VOIP or team chat or public chat. There's so much camping, you can never expect anyone to follow when you push. I think it leads to more boring matches, because the losing team becomes more and more timid for every casualty. So they try to delay defeat and avoid taking chances, instead of realizing that they have to take a big chance since numbers are not on their side.

Ugh... European server. I hope as many boring players stay there as possible.

European here. Play on both the NA and Euro servers (sorry Oceanics, but the ping over there is just too brutal). And yes, I've tended to see at least a preference for the "Moving from this spot is baaaaaaad" style on the Euro server and for "Damn the torpedoes and full ahead!" on the US one. Not enough that it's fair to say every US player is a raging Rambo or ever Euro fears getting scratches on his paintjob, but enough that it is at least noticeable.at certain times. Personally I prefer a more balanced approach, which (apart from being a lore grognard) is part of why my mechs tend to be balanced builds rather than super specialized.

I try not to be so biased based on geography but I've come to the exact conclusion. There are a couple hours when Australians are on then the game is crap until NA primetime. I do well enough hanging back with my alpha Timby but I absolutely hate it, even a lot of really good players are content sitting back and playing whack-a-mech all match. Now I normally get in a brawler and just push, I either die first or my team follows and we win. I'm on the wrong side of the world for aggressive play.

Well arnt we the pretentious one.

In any case, each server appears to have their choice of play style which I find interesting.

I'll take your word for it, as I don't recall ever playing with or against him, but I didn't think it was possible to play more aggressively than me.

I don't know where he grew up but unless he has some kind of quantum direct connection to pgi's servers I don't think he is in Europe with a ~15 ping. Plus Gargoyles and Street Sharks are American and American-Canadian cartoons :)

I am from Germany (for you uneducated US folks: thats in Europe!) and I have to agree that the playstyle on the european server is slower, more defensive, but also more thoughtout. In other words: 90% of the time just boring. US server is Rambo all the way.

Typical arrogant German. Willing to bet a collector/hero pack I am better educated and more well traveled than you. I have lived in more countries than you (including yours) and speak three languages including yours. Nice try though. You are probably better at MWO than me but frankly I could care less :)

I very rarely play in the Quick queues these days but one thing I will refute is that every Euro plays in a particular way, that tar brush is waaaaaaaay too wide lads.

Those that know me or have played with me will know that mobility and firepower are my thing, hell my old Lance mates used to joke that I would either lead them to a quick and violent death or a glorious victory but it was never boring. The only time I'll sit back is if I am watching a situation unfold, biding my time to charge in to the fray or cut down a straggler.

The fact that out of 250+ 'Mechs the YLW has the most drops and playtime logged kinda hints at my playstyle ;)

I notice the difference more when I'm the pug in a group of people. Euro players DO play more defensively. In fact, I remember one game in particular where I made fun of their plan to group up at omega(defending on counterattack). The "prepare to receive" plan is a recipe for disaster against NA players, but was simply a common part of the EU player's defense strat. We handily won and I learned the radically different playstyles of the two groups.

I doubt its every player or every group, but the difference is very noticeable.

I don't like playing one the EU server due to the higher ping for me, but I play a lot in the morning (8 to 10 AM CST) and I have to check it to get games. The EU server does tend to be slower paced in my experience but also often more open to taking direction and team oriented.

Play in Oceanic and NA server, Oceanic is much friendlier with more co-operation, NA has a lot more aggression, rage and blaming. NA is much more brutal and faster paced, and I generally have an easier time in Oceanic. I like playing brawlers in NA, because sometimes I don't get to brawl at all in Oceanic, especially in maps like polar. For all other builds, I far prefer oceanic.

Yes the lemming tactic has served the US of A very well over the years, look at Normandy...
