Will we be able to change "future" events? since the timeline is set 3049, what happens if we lose the battle for Lucien or if we repel the clans from Rasalhauge? could we infact save the Fedcom?

I don't think so. I think that the players will represent the military forces that were not fighting the Clan on their invasion routes. We will be fighting eachother (Houses and Merc units) and we may not see a Clan 'Mech for quite some time.

Ya know what i cant seem to dig it out so I may be wrong, but it was one of the threads discussing the clans (yeah, lots of those to dig through), and I coulda swore i saw a dev post that mentioned that as far as THAT goes they may need to break cannon.

I think they are will to break cannon to make the game work but at the same time would like to stay with it as long as possible because there are alot of people about the forums that are heavly in to BT lore that dislike stuff changing to much and them getting upset could kill the game (or be the start of it dying).

I imagine they'll stick with cannon for the main plot points you listed. Those worlds will remain protected (by being "core" status I believe). They're breaking from cannon because they're allowing us to battle over the less important border worlds.

Well said. We're breaking from canon in terms of if border skirmishes occurred with the frequency they'll be occurring in MWO, there's no way the Houses would be able to replace their losses fast enough, or even train enough pilots, given the fact that we'll be smashing dozens of brigades per day.

FASA always changed the game lore to match what happened in its matches at game cons. they played out everything, and stuck with the results. if they did the same here i think theyd be holding to the spirit of Battletech better than just following a set timeline. but thats just my opinion

let me edit this in, FASA let the players create the timeline, after FASA fell the timeline was added to by writers and not players and writers. I think if it went back to that a player action and writers work mixed it would be very kick ***.

sadly that's how warhammer used to be. i believe it was 93? when they did the war of the beard?

i always think having the fans help make the story line is a good thing.

I would push the Clan invasion back. Gives us more time to clobber each other.

They should totally have some super badass from the year 3555 come back in time through a black hole, thus altering events and creating a alternate universe timeline.

And he would have this big ball of of red goo that he could put a drop of it in the core of Sian and blow it up! (die Cap scum!)

Then we could just make stuff up from that point on and it wouldnt mess with canon!

if you don't get the Star Trek movie reference, go watch that movie!

lol, well if we can change events that we take part in then we can change what will happen as we are in 3049 not 3055. hell just by being run by players we will change outcomes of certain battles which effected the timeline. it would be harder to mimic the cannon than just roll with what happens lol.

Meanie

Just kidding. Still, I think whatever is done, it should be done sensibly. While Im sure the differences will be many and varied, an effort needs to be made to make sure the overall feeling and atmosphere of the universe remains similar.

I don't think that you can alter the canon in this game.

The players would only ever be able to change things in era's where nothing interesting happened, like the period after the War of 3039 till 3049 and the gap between the Jihad and Dark Ages.

One can fight and make one's mark on the time without changing the eventual outcome. THe boreder areasd were in constant turmoil thruough out the BT universe without changing the basic structure of the IS. During the Clan invasion, there were thousands of small unit actions that never made it into the canon books. That's where WE come in!

I wish. Had a huge thread about this a while back. But a bunch of guys were all like "NOOO Battletech Books are THE BIBLE to me!" and other guys were like "It probably wont be a good idea"
