Ok, so I've been working extremely hard towards the Guillotine award as it's probably the second hardest challenge to complete (after Deathstar, which requires 23 other people go AFK/disco as far as I have been able to determine).

I play most nights for a few (~4) hours and my typical night, MIGHT, end up with two headshots. Over the years since creating the achievements, PGI has 'tweaked' the game making this one particularly more and more difficult, with ever shrinking head hit boxes, 'cleaning up' thermal vision mode to NOT highlight the cockpit, causing some builds to not have 'quite perfect' convergence on ballistics (KGC comes to mind), not allowing CW to count towards achievements, etc., etc. etc.

Anyway this all started when I'd accidentally got my first 10 headshot achievement, and looked over the rest of them and though, "Gee, the next 90 probably won't be that difficult..." and started working towards number 100.

When I got THAT number I decided, well, let's just see how long it takes to get to 500.

That was 17 months ago...

So... I'm halfway to 1000, and it only took me 10,245 kills to do it... That's like only %4.88 of my kills being headshots.

Ug...

Anyway, as I approached 500, I realized I wanted to do something special. I decided that I'd give my 500th victim a 'mech pack of 75 dollar value or less of their choice, as long as it wasn't a PGI employee, or a member of my unit.

Sure enough, today, GraysonCarlyle3 was that winner, and he chose the Resistance II - Black Knight pack. The code has been purchased and sent to him.

Enjoy GraysonCarlyle3!!!

Thanks for leading with the chin! ;)

They are possible...in the group queue, I once found two new Assault players.

Managed back to back headshots. Muromets leaderboard? Tried a few Dual Gauss runs, with moderate success.

Unfortunately, new players don't really exist in my PUG LIFE area...and I can't hit an eye very well with the WubShee (I've gotten a handful, but it's hard even with half second durations). Dual Gauss gives you that 17-20% one-shot potential with the Dual Gauss, then if you get a non-crit hit, either simultaneous lasers, or an Arty (which will almost certainly get you that 1-3 damage to the face)

I'm also interested in getting guillotine...but I don't have a Dual Gauss chassis I like.

All I know is 22000 matches in I've been killed by head shots maybe 20 times? Probably don't even have 100, myself, but I don't really go head hunting. Find Legit headshots to be about as dependant on bad opponents as good aim.

Luck and overheating enemies seem to be where I accrue most of mine. 56 in ~4500 matches. I've never actually tried to get them but, one way or another, 500 is pretty impressive.

Just 500 more...

Yeah, actually aiming for the cockpit makes all the difference.

I got the 10th and was wondering how long it'd take to get my 100, but I used a Dragonslayer since it was convergence friendly. I would have a few nights where I struggled to even land body shots, but then there were those nights I'd walk away with a dozen headshots.

I don't know what it's currently sitting at, but sure as hell ain't no 500. Haha, nice work!

LOL yeah that helps.

I'm no longer good enough to get them reliably (due to the multiple "nerfs" you already mentioned) so I no longer even aim in that general area. I might have 10 headshots at this point, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least to look it up and see that I have fewer.

Way to go on getting to 500!

Nice headshot..
Battlemaster is obviously too easy to shoot in head. I was killled today in my 2C, same way 2 gauss hit and then finished by arty strike all in head Posted Image rest of my mech full armor lol

It's "easier" in the most general sense.

The BM doesn't have quite as much 'obscuring' or 'confusing' the actual location of the cockpit. Man, MANY 'mechs have their cockpits seemingly blocked by OTHER ST/CT hit boxes. Some cockpits can only be hit if you're "above" the target 'mech (Scarecrow seems to be one of the worst offenders of this), while others are 'easier' to 'accidentally' head shot because the cockpit hitbox is in the center of CT (Stalker, Catapult, Jaeger, etc.).

Lights are f'ing difficult to headshot (except for Raven and Locust). Crimany had a SHUT DOWN JENNER where the gauss round PASSES THROUGH the cockpit and explodes "inside" on the side torso...

Some, but I mostly solo since I like to play in my KGC, and me not being in the group means other unit member(s) can bring more tonnage if they want.

The 500th was in the solo queue...

nice one!

Got beheaded last week and was kinda surprised. That didn't happen for half a year or so.

Headshots got so difficult that I don't bring more than 12 Armor there on any of my mechs. From time to time someone hits your head but that is mostly harmless. And if you look at the big alphas we have today, people don't even care about headshots anymore, they just alpha your CT because it is more reliable.

So kudos Posted Image

Grats. I doubt I have 20 headshot kills myself.

My few headshot kills were pure luck while running a troll AC40 build. Most memorable one was a battlemaster rounding a corner and I just sort of popped him right then and there, before he could even get a shot off. I would have felt bad if it didn't feel so satisfying to just instantly drop an assault mech from 100% like that.

Only times I've ever died to a headshot was on one of the rare occasions I actually piloted a DWF, I just sort of gave an enemy the death stare, random laser fire grazed it just enough that a guy with dual gauss lined up the shot and took me out. I immediately realized my mistake and have never died to a headshot since. First time I ever died to one was in my Battlemaster... To a guy that scored about 5 headshot kills in that same match, against moving/twisting players and no less than two of them were within half a second of rounding a corner, so take that as you will.

EDIT: Also this was right when DWFs came out, and I'm fairly certain they've adjusted the hitboxes since then (like on nearly all new mechs within weeks after release because they realize they once again made the head hitboxes way too big to be 'fair').

Yeah, that's true. Wish they'd add a fully defined heat affects table with various, temporary, affects as the heat climbed ever higher, kind of discourage the 'alpha-centric' mindset of today's 'fire control'...

Yeah I think my first 10 were more or less accidental/unintended... But after that, well you saw my OP.

Yeah the DWF cockpit hit box has shifted and shrank since it's been released, and it's damned difficult to hit on a moving twisting pilot. If I get it crit and it looks like he's going to be difficult, I'll drop an arty to finish the job.

As far as 5 in one match, while not 'impossible', it's definitely suspicious. Most I've EVER gotten in one match is two, though I've been accused of as many as 4 (I WISH!!!), would have loved to been observing the guy who got 5, if nothing else it would have made a great vid if it were done 'naturally', and would have been forwarded to support if not...

I had one days ago that was a HBK-IIC that I shot with my HBR with Gauss + ERMLs, and got nearly full burn on the ERMLs before he dropped. It was actually pretty funny because he was shooting gauss at one of my team mates, and must have been zoomed in so far he did not see the yellow beams in the face of the cockpit...

Agreed - in the distant past I ran a boomjager and a dual gauss jager pretty consistently (before the achievements were put in place, alas). During that time I would aim for cockpits as it was a way to make those builds even more effective. Also, this was before ELO worked reasonably well so I would be in matches with a lot of unskilled players, saw lots of overheats, etc. I'm sure I racked up a lot of headshots back then, but none of them counted towards the guillotine award.

Since then I don't aim for cockpits any longer and as a result I only rarely get a headshot kill. I was actually curious if anyone has earned guillotine yet. I've never seen the reward tag in game. I always assumed the first person to get there would have their account reviewed for aimbotting. Guillotine = aimbot honeypot. ;)
