Alright: Teh Scythes are gon'a be a mouthful. SuperHighs seem like overkill for the heat they system is only going to make, but both these Slipstreams throttle very well, and that's exactly what you're gon'a do here: Link them togeather, onto one mobo patch, then surf into the BIOS to get the RPM down.

Part Two is how the expensive one goes on the ceiling. The factory fan should go up front …

After that, I'm running a gambit the PSU doesn't need to be "better" then Bronze at this power level. There's a $60 Enermax that'd drop right in, but somehow, I liked the idea of getting below $750 this time around …

I know this sounds strange, but "pull the exhaust fan so it can be Zen Grill Space© like the ceiling;" I forgot to price ether a PWM extension, and a PWM splitter, so you can rig the super loud 80mm on the door, then throttle it with control for the CPU fan. Once again Cheap/ Weak dictates we move the exhaust fan onto the door, giving the Intel box cooler plenty of Zen Grill© to work with. That "door fans" require $5.50 worth of cable is annoying, but still cheaper then then a "better" case.

I'm saving all of $11 with the GeminII S524 Ver.2 over the normal CNPS9900MAX-B, and I can't really confirm it'll fit the way I want to: Hanging it over the RAM is the path of least resistance, with ~3mm to spare, but that's contrary to the goal of putting some airflow on the VRM (other side of the CPU socket;) Pointed north is unlikely in any case I'd pick for Cheap/ Weak; West is my preference, but nobody publishes the height of the VRM heatsink itself, and you might have to pull the rear fan this way. (If you could keep this fan mounted, would flipping it into an intake get you anywhere?) South shouldn't be an option, but this is a Gigabyte board, and the first PCI-E x16 slot isn't actually thefirst slot, so maybe it'll clear … Maybe needing a nice, rigid, inert piece of cardstock so nothing gets scraped nor shorted …

And the PSU doesn't actually have a review: [H]ardOCP likes it 550W variant, and it was only $10 over the Bronze I would'a picked.

Meanwhile, that GTX 950 dropped $10 since the Intel build, and the case, with it's gi-normous door fan, might just be a revaluation.

So far I'm getting 60 fps on average using max settings with this build and AA off,

CPU: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.6Ghz - 4.8Ghz sub 50c, 5Ghz is sub 55c

MOTHERBOARD: Sabertooth 990fx R2.0
MEMORY: 2x 4 GIG Corsair Vengance 9-9-9-24 T2 1600Mhz
GPU's: 2x Sapphire R9 270x stock speed
PSU: Corsair Platinum 1000w modular
CASE: Cooler Master HAF XM, 2x 200mm Fans, 2x 140mm fans, then the cpu cooler fans 4x 140mm fans and to finish the psu fan on the bottom which is a 140mm
SDD: Samsung SSD 840 Evo 250gb main drive
HDD: ST3360832AS storage drive

I built this rig for less than £500 so its quite affordable, but I am looking towards the new AMD Zen core as an upgrade ;)

What kind of config are you running and do you use core parking? 1080p or 1440p? I ask because I have a very similar system and am always looking for tips and tricks to get a few more fps out of it until it is worth upgrading to something else.

CAD-workstations usually have really sturdy components and have usually far superior value compared to lets say used consumer-computers,HP Z-series and Dell Precision are really good ones,usually they come with 4-core or better Xeons that are comparable to 1st-4 gen i7:s.They also support beefy graphics cards and have good psus.

also if anyone has a LGA1366-platform,Xeon W5590 is basically a 3.33 Ghz Core i7 that you can buy for 60 dollars

LGA1366-motherboards are a bit expensive even used,but if you have one,i highly recommend updating your bios and slapping in the Xeon,it easily overclocks to 4 Ghz on good air cooling and rivals stock 6700K in power

not bad for a nearly 6 year old processor

Eh, not in anything CPU-bound (MWO included). There's like a 40% IPC deficit to make up. It definitely isn't a bad deal at all, assuming you can keep it stable and cool at 4GhZ+, but you won't be putting the CPU-dependent settings in MWO at Very High with it.
