Why is it that when the Claner's whine about something the IS has being OP, it ends up being nerfed soon after?
Case in point the recent nerf of the Energy range quirks on certain IS mechs from 30% to 10%.
Clans complain that IS ER Large Lasers shouldn't have the same range as their ER Large Lasers and lo and behold the quirks get nerfed.
Soon the Clans will complain about something else and another IS nerf will happen.
I'm sick of this happening.
The decision to nerf the IS's super range came not long after TheSilken hosted an IS vs. Clan balance test, in which the IS won 6 out of 6 games, primarily due to their range advantage. Both teams were comprised of some of the best players from some of the best competitive teams, and they switched tech bases halfway through, so player skill and team composition didn't have any impact on the result.
Clan players have been whining a LONG time about the IS's super range, so I doubt PGI was acting based on forum complaints, otherwise they would have nerfed them a long time ago. This leads me to believe that Silken's Clan vs. IS test must have had a fairly substantial impact in terms of giving PGI a better look at where balance stood, and what needed to be addressed. Range was the ultimate winner for the balance test, and range is what got nerfed. Coincidence? Not likely.
It's a good thing too. I saw teams that I KNOW are terrible, yet somehow they manage to stand up to better teams, all because they sit back and poke from 1600m+ away? I'm sorry, but that's a whole bunch of BS. I've played enough CW on both sides. I've played the super range ERLL pokers, and nowhere in hell would I ever say they were balanced.
