I keep seeing these Tips And Tricks postings, but they all seem to be joke threads. I mean, No, you do not get a Drafting Bonus from following in your teammate's footsteps, and your teammates DO NOT get a Cooling Bonus by shooting their back armor to expose the engine heat sinks.

So, I decided to make a Truthful Tips and Tricks thread to set the record straight and make sure nobody has to wonder if the advice they are receiving is true/factually correct. To emphasize, all of the following statements are actually true.

Here we go.

1.). Standing in deep lava will reduce the amount of damage your Leg Armor receives from enemy weapons' fire.

2.) When piloting a Light Mech and you find yourself running off a very tall cliff because you're being pursued by hostiles, then remember this: feathering your jump jets on the way down will increase the total amount of time you spend in the air, unable to turn or juke to avoid incoming fire.

3.) If you focus your fire on enemy Mechs' Shield Arms, then you'll eventually destroy their primary defensive assets.

4.) Enemies who strip most of their leg armor will often have more weapons in their arms and torsos, which means destroying their Side Torsos will take large amounts of weapons offline at once.

5.) Traveling in a single-file line on your final approach to the enemy position will leave only one of your team's Mechs exposed to enemy fire.

6.) Smearing your laser beams all over the enemy Mech will cause the damage indicator on their HUD to light-up all over, reducing their ability to locate your position based on HUD data.

7.) Shutting your Mech down will cause incoming enemy LRMs to lose lock and travel to your last-known position.

8.) LBX Autocannons deal extra critical damage and have a spread-shot effect. This means targeting damaged enemy Mechs at long range increases the chances of at least 1 LBX pellet hitting an open component.

9.) Engaging enemies that are just outside the range of your SRMs will result in explosions and smoke effects right in front of their face.

10.) The total Weight saved when using Ferro Fiberous Armor increases with the more armor you mount, but removing all your armor will save the most weight.

Anyone else have some Truthful Tips and Tricks to share? Nothing unfactual, mind you.
P.s. Seriously, nothing untrue.

Okay, we have some more truthful tips from the community.

-Standing directly behind a teammate when facing the enemy will shield you from most of the return fire.

-Hitting the 'O' button at the beginning of the match will allow you to fire you weapons continuously without ever shutting down.

-Sending half of the team to chase down an enemy light is a great way to ensure at least one kill.

-...Hiding in the back and shutting down until your team is mostly wiped out means you will be fresh against weakened enemies and get more kills.

- The more teammates are around you the more people you have to compete with for kills. Going off alone helps you get more solo kills, which gives more of a payout.

- When using burst-fire Autocannons, you can spray your bursts across the whole enemy team to get more assist scores instead of focusing on one target in hopes of getting a single kill.

- Assault Mechs carry as much armor and weapons as 3 or 4 Light Mechs, which means an Assault will win a face-to-face slugging brawl with such opponents.

- Running out in front of your teammates during fire-exchange can give you the chance to earn more kills by preying on wounded enemies.

- You can launch LRMs at the Enemy Team from any point on the Map.

- You can deny the enemy easy access to your team's position by deploying an Artillery Strike at your feet.

- Keeping your whole team in a static position and allowing yourself to become surrounded will make it easy to find enemy targets, as they will be on all 4 sides of your group.

Learn to use the engine to your advantage. An example of this would be (this is pure gold) when a rude player is attempting to run thru you and barge you out of the way, holding the center legs to torso button while constantly making small course changes will leave the bad driver frustrated, as for some reason this makes your mech solid.

The outer/upper ring in the center of mordor is hotter than the lower plattform directly above the lava.

Being the last player alive increases your PSR more. Hiding in the back and shutting down until your team is mostly wiped out means you will be fresh against weakened enemies and get more kills.

The more teammates are around you the more people you have to compete with for kills. Going off alone helps you get more solo kills, which gives more of a payout.

If your base is being capped the assaults are the ones who should return to defend it, because they have the most firepower so they can finish the job quickly and return to the front line.

Well done, I must say.
PGI should review their loading tips since there are some which are indeed untrue.

Running directly in front of your teammates and firing at their targets increases your match score by letting you snag some last minute kills.

Assaults are big, powerful 'Mechs that can fend for themselves when left alone. They do not need any team support.

Atlases are great as LRM boat support 'Mechs. Make sure you stay far, far in the back so you can survive to support your team with LRM fire.

I'm going to have to paraphrase a few ones here (to make sure they remain 100% factual), but good work, Gents. I'll add some more.

Hey, I said Truthful. Stay on topic...

Like, "You can launch LRMs at your opponents from any point on the Map."

This advice is wrong and cynical. Congregating in a group into a single potion of the map makes it easier to kill the enemy since you don’ t have to look when they know where you are.

What salt? Every single tip that has been offered in my OP is actually, really, factually correct.

That's the best part about this thread. It's not "tips" that just remind you of what Bads do, these are all genuinely Truthful statements.

Peeking from the same spot repeatedly will get you killed.

Constantly changing position is a key strategy for success.

Be serious and tell the enemy you're dueling at a location. Looking is for wimps.
