Says it all

Russ stated in townhall it's going away and new system is coming in

and apparently new system goes directly at reducing alpha

It's overdue, for sure. Man that was one hell of a nuke to drop in town hall, too.

If they aren't going for ghost heat then they are going for a lower heat cap with faster heat dissipation. More than likely a 33 pt heat cap to allow for up to 3 PPC's to fire max while moving without shutting down.

I'm willing to bet right here and now that any new heat system will have nothing to do with logic. We'll be replacing one arbitrary system with another.

Power draw capacity would be potentially perfecct, is that something he mentioned and I missed, or just you brainstorming ghost heat 2.0?

I don't think it's PDC, it sounded more like a timed system, whether that be heat or something else

Do you belong to the flat earth society?

Because something has always been a certain way, doesn't mean it always has to be.

And no, not all games use such basic methods.

Over react much? I was referring to the fact that logic is and always has been something that's fairly non existent when you have walking tanks, and that's just this IP. So my point was really, arguing a lack of logic in this system vs a new heat system seems a little baffling thing to worry about, when logic gets checked at the door when you have tanks with legs.

Why should logic get checked at the door? Yes, a certain suspension of belief is called for, but there is room to have systems based on real physical laws without compromising the fictional aspect of a game.

Ok,

so a new heat system that very much goes into deterring alphas.

Russ specifically stated that he hates how alphas are used. He wanted to come up with something that managed them and also took into account the amount of damage those alphas do. So a larger alpha will have a longer period of time in being able to do that again whereas a 30 point alpha might have xx time before being able to perform again and a 50 point alpha would take longer

He was very much continuously saying heat scale and heat so I don't think it's anything like a power control or anything

So light mechs can still spam their 30 points.... assaults and heavies nerfed again.

Moral of the story: Learn to use light mechs, b/c they're removing the only good thing that the big guys have.

They just took last Bio break and recapped a couple of things

So, it really sounded like there's going to be an entirely new heat scale implemented this summer. Russ said it as 90-90% complete and ready for testing and he was all be certain that it would make it into the live game by this Summer.

One thing he stated was that he didn't like the way the game played out many times now as you round a corner or crest a hill and just melt from a steady stream of alphas. He didn't get into specifics on how that works in regards to different weapon systems but he did say it would be a much more intuitive system that was less complicated for newer players to understand.

It's interesting some of the specific wordage he used. This will change the entire landscape of "meta" and tactics in the game.

A new heat scale means a completely different game environment. It sounds like it's going to actually have penalties of some kind.

nowhere did I or Russ imply spamming alphas, it was an example to give an idea of how it would affect different size alphas. Let's keep the hyperbole in check please ;)

I'll believe it when I see it.

When the bar of a terrible concept (Ghost Heat) is set to being compared to the "next best thing" (which could end up being Ghost Heat rebranded), I have concerns.

It begins with Paul.
