I was busy looking after my son during the NGNG Town Hall last night/this morning and I caught a bit where Russ was talking about clan Endo.

Can someone confirm for me that I really did hear Russ say that he won't allow Endo to be unlocked because "clan mechs weren't designed that way" or something like that.
I'm pretty sure that's what he said although I find it hard to believe he's say something that ******* stupid.
IS mechs weren't designed to be fully customizable either but in MWO they are.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/OmniMech

It clearly says that Engines & structure are hardwired and cannot be replaced without extensive re-design of a mech

But it also mentions, its theorethically possible

Thats because they are standard battlemechs, not omnimechs. They are updated models (or new built) and they use clan weapons & engines & technology and such. Therefor you can modify engines, structure, armor & such

What he said is you will not get endo but you will get ammo quirks. This will free up the same tonnage as endo so you basically get endo if you use any ammo weapons.

Really? So we will finally have what people have been requesting for.

I guess encouraging ballistic builds can't be bad.

However, as also stated in the rules, it then becomes a Battlemech, meaning it can no longer change it´s weapons loadout (in MWO that would basically mean locking the currently mounted omnipods permanently)

Now, try explaining that to Joe Casual over there who bought a Clan pack for x00 dollars, just put endo in his Summoner Prime(I) for more tonnage and now doesn´t understand why he can´t put a ppc on teh right arm anymore even though he still has the correct omnipod in his inventory...

He´ll submit it as a major bug, suppot will tell him "It´s not a bug, it´s a feature", and he´ll either ask for a refund or quit altogether because he thinks he got hosed. Posted Image

I would rather see standard structure not be garbage than have a bunch of nonsense quirks.

The main problem is that Ferro is so ******* awful compared to Endo. Ferro needs to be tweaked to make it more attractive. Been saying this for millennia. Ferro could be adapted to only take up 12 slots for example (5 for clan). This would make Ferro more attractive and not break stock builds.

I can completely understand PGI not wanting to unlock Endo/Ferro switches on Omnimechs.

The more lore you throw away, the less this game is Mechwarrior/Battletech. I know Clanners have been asking for this, but if PGI added some more lore in and made the Clan mechs properly when compared to their IS counterparts, this would be a non-issue.

My view people want endo because the few mechs without don't perform like they should. Take the hellbringer its still a good mech without endo. The kitfox with endo I would say is still lower tier.

So in the end it's the balance on the mechs. Scale I hope will help a lot of the low end clan mechs but they might have to start giving them more hardpoints. The sad little lynx could really use few energy hardpoints in the sides.

Hmm... so... Clans have somehow unlocked the ability to carry more ammo for an equivalent amount of tonnage via this mysterious "qurikening". Clearly, their mastery of technology borders of the mythical powers of the ancients! The Inner Sphere must redouble their efforts to repel the invaders!

Well I don't see how you are supposed to balance mechs without something as basic as Endo being available to all of them. I don't care if its not lore or canon. We have magic quirks and structure improvements that arent lore or canon and PGI has no problem with those. All the clan mechs that suck need endo end of story. They just don't have enough tonnage to do descent builds on. The ammo per ton quirk might help some loadouts if you use missiles and balistics but again no needed tonnage for HS or weapons. I think they need to give it to all mechs whether or not some game designer 20 years ago decided a mech should have it or not.

The moment lore impedes gameplay is the moment it should be tossed aside. Entertaining gameplay is more important than one that slavishly follows rules set out in books written in the 1980s.

So a the summoner is gonna get a choose what 3.5 tons of free ammo you want quirk or some such?

Yay. Space magic quantum ammo storage FTW.

I'm sure Ammo Drops and Health Packs and Respawns will be along shortly, too.

What made the Summoner suck is PGI giving the Timber Wolf the S variant. If they hadn't the Summoner would have maintained a niche.

What he said was, he's not going to unlock it because it's a slippery slope that never ends. If he unlocks endo on the summoner it will turn into people asking nonstop to just unlock them all. Then it becomes screw it just do whatever everybody wants with no regard to anything else.

Yes but I would guess it would be a lot smaller around maybe 25-50%. So if you load 6 tons of ammo you will save 3 tons or about as much as endo.
