I need some build suggestions. I got the mastery back for shiets and gigs. What are common buids for those who enjoy playing this mech?

Try FANG with 3 ERLL + AC10

Harass with 3ERLL & brawl with 2ERLL & AC 10 on the arms

PS: max armor is not necessary on DRG, even the head does not need armor

368 armor is enough, any more than that are redundancy

DRG-1C

works with flame too,use a ac10 + extra heatsinks instead of the gauss if you like it better

Flame and the 2 Ballistic DRG are about the only ones you see anymore. Usually Flames with 4 ML AC20 or 4 LPL, though I only run the former myself, and 2 AC5 on the other model I mentioned seems pretty solid, too, but in both these cases you still run into the common issue of not being high-end laser vomit.

Some friends and I used to run "Dragon Wolfpacks" occasionally a year back or so, just for fun. Like those terrifying light mech wolfpacks, but with Dragons (with big engines). Was surprisingly effective. Wonder if that would still work.

The big nose does quite well as a balkony. Put a fence around it and plant some space weed there.

These + some more alternatives that could be worth checking out:

280XL, Gauss, 2x LPL/PPC on the Flame and the DRG-1C
300XL, AC10, 2x LPL on the Fang, Flame and the DRG-1C
320XL, Gauss, 4x MPL on the Flame

Fang does well with an AC10 and 2 LPL. I've also run that on the 1C.

FANG is strong enough with 2LPL and AC10, but 2 tons of ammo are enough, why not pack more firepower

FANG

or this

FANG

Scrap metal price is good. Free up a mech bay and make some C-Bills.

Been working the Dragons for a couple of weeks. Have a thread in the heavy mechs section about it, and trying to find builds that work: http://mwomercs.com/...agon-arrogance/

For me I ended up with:
Flame that is the std build with AC/20 and 4 Mediums. Tried a lot of other things (gauss instead of AC/20, 3LPLs, 4LL, etc. Everything felt less than optimum or even outright lame. Plus I wanted 1 Dragon with a std and 1 I could brawl in, so this won by default.

5N ended up with 2 AC/5s (4 tons ammo) and an ERPPC., running an XL325 (only 10 truedubs) Probably ought to go with a regular PPC for better heat performance. But heat hasn't been an issue thus far. Hardest part is forcing myself to stay at range. Its is not my usual play style so it is a struggle.

1C ended up with an AC10 and 2LPL running an XL300.

They all seems fine on paper but in game performance is pretty bad for all but the Flame (and that is mediocre at best). Not sure what else to do here. Despite the infamous giant CT on Dragons that supposedly draw fire, I have found that to NOT be the case. Seems like folks are smart enough to know that this thing is likely running an XL and thus focus fire the torsos just fine. I've Leeroy Jenkin-ed in a locust and lasted longer in a match than these things usually do. Point being regardless of build, the only way to stay alive long enough to help your team is to stay at fairly long range, and never stop moving (and of course twisting).

Instead of keep running it is better for DRG to peek behind cover (or teamates). When facing an enemy DRG should not twist alot, it will only expose your weak ST and your precious arm. You'll want the enemy to shoot at your thick CT. For damage distribution keep facing the enemy while moving sideways. Anyway usually your weapons are cool enough to keep pounding the enemy

On 1 on 1 situation DRG can brawl just fine, it can also perform well in big brawl as long as it does not attract focus fire

They really are an underwhelming mech chassis. That said, I own the Flame... had it back when it first game out, back when Dragon's weren't totally outclassed by other mechs. Since then I've found that running XL's on them, even big XL's, is usually asking for an early death. With the amount of pinpoint alpha in this game its not too hard to hit a Dragon's ST and rip through it with an early opening shot. So with that in mind I built my Flame with a standard engine and gave it some brawling weapons that aren't just the standard AC20 4ML.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b428c345afdcedc

On paper it doesn't look too solid, only 39 point alpha, but I somehow make it work.
