Currently the Phoenix Hawk Special variant is the regular PXH-1. This is a missed opportunity (not to mention significantly confusing) as there already exists an actual Phoenix Hawk Special, the PXH-1b. Referred to as the Phoenix Hawk “Special,” the -1b was introduced in 2760 for the Star League's Royal units. As both the -1 & -1b are included in the same package, swapping them now would alleviate this obvious oversight.

Make the PXH-1b “Special” special!

I'd be happy with the option to upgrade my PHX-1B to an (S) variant. Or should I say ($) variant!

This is so blindingly obvious I cannot believe no one else has brought it up :(

Has it been tweeted yet?

I agree, I could care less about the PXH - 1 (S). Now...I would buy a PXH -1B (S) ...hint...hint PGI! Posted Image

The LCT-1Vb Royal Locust wasn't called the Locust "Special" ... I wonder why they called the Royal Phoenix Hawk the "Special".

And as we all know already, the (S) designation goes on the most common variant. Just like the (F) designation and the (O) designation, etc.

Actually that is not the case. Yes, the special Clan mechs are based upon their prime configuration or initial variant; however, the special IS mechs have no such standard. Not to mention that the Steam Performance Packs use the Champion version rather than the default.

The Founder packs neither offered variants for purchase nor followed the current purchase procedure, so we can probably ignore them. The individual mech packs have been the default variant recently; however, the initial Urbanmech was not. Finally, the Resistance mechs include both default and alternates as the special variant.

Indeed, Bishop Steiner successfully lobbied Russ to change the Resistance Zeus from the ZEU-9S to the ZEU-6S, making the Zeus the only non-upgraded R1 mech! With any luck he will help us here.

Therefore we have plenty of precedent to fix this oversight Posted Image

There's a problem in this that they've already sold lots of Collector Packs, and for some buyers getting an S version of the original, classic PXH-1 might've been decisive. You'd be changing essential content after taking the money, so at least would need to be prepared for some refunds.

(Personally, I find the PXH-2 more appealing as my ECM Hawk.)

While it is possible, it is not really an issue.

First, although some might refund it is equally likely some others would buy. Anecdotally, people have said they would be in with this change and no one has yet said otherwise.

Second, as mentioned above, the Resistance Zeus was changed between pre-order and release. Clear precedent that it can be done. PGI should therefore have some refund statistics from then that could be of use now.

Finally, the main advantage of the Phoenix Hawk ‘Special’ is that it is already included in the Collector Pack so no changes would have to be made there.

Nevertheless if you are not in agreement, I can appreciate your position and I thank you for taking the time to contribute. Cheers!

Yeah, I think it all depends on which variant each person anticipates playing the most. You'd naturally want to have the "S" version for that variant, to maximize your C-bill earnings.

Personally, I'd rather have the S version for base version PXH-1. I plan to run the PXH-2 reinforcement with ECM and the 1b seems a bit redundant. (Prefer the hardpoints on the PXH-2 vs. 1b.)

But if most other people would prefer the PXH-1b as the S variant, then that's fair enough, and I'll have no issue with making the change.

For people who didn't get the reinforcement pack, I can see the appeal of having an S version of PXH-1b, as that's the only one with ECM for those people.

Alternatively, make the PHX-1b (or PHX-2) an (S) model for those who buy the full 85$ master pack.

I had not yet looked at the hard points; I just think that the Phoenix Hawk ‘Special’ should be the Special Phoenix Hawk. It seems like such an easy way to bring in the lore and help link MWO to the BTU.

I can certainly agree that the reinforcement pack should definitely include its own special as well!

This is the only realistic solution to the Ultimate pack that I've seen so far. There's no way in hell PGI would ever change the price once it has gone on sale. All they can do to stop the "outrage" (such as it is) would be to give more free stuff for people who bought that package, or all the different packages individually.

Seems unlikely that there would be an uproar if they cut the price, but this is the forums so I am sure someone would complain!

That said, there was the Steam Pack debacle and there was no blowback from that. Sure that was not a price cut, but they made up the difference in MC. Infact I would be very happy to get 5 bucks back in MC at the best rate Posted Image

If someone was upset that they would have purchased the Ultimate pack with the discount/bonus instead, it is super easy to get a refund/upgrade and it is still within the pre-order period.

I think in general they should consider adding more 'goodies' to smaller 'mech packs (since you are paying the same $ for less tonnage) and seriously consider adding incentives to the Phoenix Hawk reinforcement pack. I like adding another (S) model myself, but I'd be much more likely to pick up the Reinforcements if it was more than just early access to the chassis for $.
