They turn useless and gimped AC chainfire into chainfire that works. GOOD.

The damage output of being peppered by 6 LBX2s over a few seconds is technically less than if they were group fired, so stop complaining and also stop standing in-front of Direwolves. Focused heavy suppression is what they do.

Macros are really only useful for re-timing the built in chainfire. I've written a bunch of other macros to fix the games other missing and logical features that other good game devs would have thought of:
Bind Shift (unlock arms) + LBM to weapon group 6 (arm weapons only)
Middle mouse button (advanced zoom) also lowers the mouse DPS, meaning advanced zoom is almost worth a damn for sniper builds.

The macros for this game are control conveniences and not advantages. If your trying to mimic what they can do with the default inputs and getting annoyed then just give it a go and have fun playing the game again.

Why are macros still allowed? This is cheating!

I'll just quote myself from another thread as my words also apply here:

Just because you repeat something often does not make it true. This variation of the Big Lie idea used during the late 1930's and early 1940's is not as effective today as The Donald thinks.

I emailed PGI once asking about this and here is what they said

"As per Code of Conduct: http://mwomercs.com/conduct

USING MACRO SOFTWARE
Keybind macro software and hardware mechanisms are permitted for use as long as such mechanisms still require manual input to initiate and do not fully automate gameplay."

Macros don't need to be an "absolute" fix to skew gameplay. Wouldn't you be a little pissed if someone played fifty games--enough to get a basic grasp of the game mechanics--then built a macro to fire those LPLs same as you and then and beat you? doesn't that diminish the effort that you've put into mastering this game?

Don;t really care, they do let any one do what can't already be done in the client. If they need a little help, to get that good, but still using a macro is not going to take you from being a Meh player to a Good Player, in fact I doubt any macro's would have any effect on your skill.

wel this might be hard for some of you new gamers to the online community so lemme set ya straight.
MACROS are allways considerd a cheat unless expressly endorsed by the game provider saying its ok.

Is using that thing really an advantage? and does it actually have extensive macros built in?

Macros are for people that can't physically trigger all the buttons due to an actual hardship.

Or for people that think because "you can theoretically hit the commands this way" translates into a "macro is no better than what I could do without one".

One wonders though: If they can do it without a macro, then why do they need to have a macro? It's almost as if a macro give them some sort of advantage over players that actually input the commands manually.

Those 3 big monitors, btw. Wow that really is pay to win and guess PGI built in suport for that? In game terms that gives you both normal eyes and an eye in each ear.

All is good. Right?
-----
Though with that said it would be really assume if the mechlab weapon bindings could be set like macros. Have it built right into the game so everything gets set when you change mechs.

In MWO, aiming via the joystick is not. It takes a lot of practice and determination. Throttle + mouse (for aiming) is much more effective in MWO.

On the other hand, toggle switches are great for things like TAG, and push or momentary buttons are great for multi-state features like ZOOM and vision modes. The analog/mouse input right on the throttle stick is awesome for analog turning and jump jets

The Thrustmaster TARGET software is amazing.

All analog inputs (2 on the stick, 4 on the throttle) can be given S or J curves and center/end dead zones. They can also be made to act like joysticks or mice, set to either absolute or relative position, and with adjustable sensitivity.

All buttons and switches are programmable like regular keyboard macros.

What TARGET does not have, or I have not discovered how to do yet, is the ability to multiplex 2 or more analog inputs into a single value.

And finally, once the Oculus Rift and other VR devices become popular, how are you supposed to look at the keyboard when playing? Posted Image

Oh well for me its a lazy way to put a ton of Ultra 5 ammo down range. For example....

Thats a good tip. I thought about this and i reckon if you bound group1 to wheel up and group 2 wheel down you can then just roll the mouse wheel and it will shoot as fast as the wheel registers

Can you show me where in the rules it's cheating or perhaps anyone from PGI stating this?

Do you really think this is the first time this discussion has come up in 4 years?
Do you really think PGI hasn't made statements on this exact subject in previous threads?

It's not cheating.
That's a factual statement because it's not against the factual rules.

Your opinion is that it is cheating.

Now, which do you think has more authority in regards to declaring what cheating is.
You?
or the company the developed the game?

In fact, not only is it not against the rules, the rules EXPLICITLY ALLOW THEIR USE

So, to the OP and all teh other "Macros are cheating!" Whiners: If you can find ACTUAL reasons why this is cheating (and not your imaginary shoot faster or cool down faster boogeymen], then you have a leg to stand on and we can have that discussion.

Until then this thread is entirely pointless, just as the hundreds that preceded it were. If you´re still entirely convinced that it´s cheating, then download Autohotkey at https://autohotkey.com/ and get in on the 3v1l HaX yourself.

And no, I do not use macros myself , though I do have a few builds where I´ve considered it, I´m just lazy.

You know who are likely the BIGGEST abusers of macros in this game? People advertising their chat streams, unit website, or personal catchphrase in the pre-match lobby.

You know who are likely the second biggest abusers of macros in this game? Disabled people. As in those with muscle/skeletal issues, nerve issues, or any other number of issues that come along with age for many of our older BT fans that play this game.

While we're on the topic of trying to persuade PGI to remove things people assume are only used to gain an advantage, let's force everybody to run 4K resolution and maximum graphics, since anybody running anything lower than that is totally getting an unfair advantage.

I WON'T BE HAPPY UNTIL I KNOW THAT THE REMAINING 10 PLAYERS IN MWO ARE PLAYING EXACTLY JUST LIKE ME!!!! RAH!!!!!!!

Well I feel a lot better now since reading this topic and reply the only ones using macro's are the elderly. This makes it ok. :)

This is a skewed view put about by trouble makers IMO. The game is sold at its most basic level, if you choose to have higher res or fancy explosions then thats your choice, be thankful PGI dont try to charge you for it

...Aaaand another one of these threads.

Personally, I don't use macros or understand the appeal. Why people would rather automate their gameplay experience instead of choosing to actually play is beyond me. Still, I'm not going to cry over them. Instead, I just choose to take those macro-using automatons and crumple their Mechs up around their ears for disposal later.

Well, there is one good reason for using of macros. They free up your brain to perform more higher-level functions.
