Balance/weapons: Adding Is Er Small And Medium Lasers

I feel like adding these would bring some better balance to the game (and stop the crying of the gap between IS standard and Clan ERs) even though they're technically out of the timeline. Its not a new type of weapon or some huge power gap and I think they would go a long way towards making a better balance situation.

I have repeatedly called for a skip to 3060 tech that would even out the IS against clans, make quirks superfluous, and otherwise outright balance the tech out...

Spider 5V needs more than quirks.

The spider 5V needs to pray to mecha baby jesus to bless it with more hardpoints...and no amount of quirks can fix that...

Throw in the clan lpl and the big merc groups will go IS again and push the clans back to 1 planet lol

i would be ok with this provided all clan weapons get reverted back to they original state before the multi nerf bat...if not then i say no IS has gotten more buff than they needed or deserved.

So you're saying give IS er lasers to help balance but make sure to make the CLAN weapons better? haha

I would rather see IS medium & small lasers be 3 & 1 heat respectively like they're supposed to be, and maybe a duration buff for small lasers (say 0.1 second shorter) for good measure too since their range is so bad.

Not with the current heat system. Medium Laser boats are already quite strong. Making them cooler would only make them even more effective.

Duration buff for small lasers makes more sense though...

They would be less strong without overdone quirks on everything, and then mechs that happen to not have overdone quirks would have lasers that aren't too hot.

Fair point.
I hope that someday the game may be how you describe, but currently overblown quirks and heat capacity far beyond what TT had in mind make balancing the game a nightmare.

3060s tech, will bring balance, huh?

Clans get:

Heavy Lasers
ER Pulse (?)
Hyper-Assault Gauss
Advanced Tactical Missiles

Good luck to PGI, balancing those.

Now, the biggest thing IS gets, which WOULD flip balance on its head, would be the Light Fusion Engine. I'll take that over any advanced weapon. I'd jump timeline immediately for those engines.

Simple: Add IS Er Smalls and Mediums, get rid of the range quirks. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

balancer is fine the way it is..game is pretty balanced atm....in fact im sure theres a few IS mechs that could use some nerfing....but im sure you IS players dun wanna talk about that right?

How would IS ER medium lasers change IS/Clan balance? The IS ER medium laser is a weapon that deals 5/7 the damage of the Clan laser at a shorter maximum range while generating the same heat at the same tonnage.

The point is IS would have the choice of standard lasers, with shorter range but better heat or the ER lasers with a longer range but more heat.

It would also stop the problem of people trying to balance the STANDARD lasers to the Clan's ER.

This would probably be possible once the Power Draw mechanic comes out since it will be limiting weapons, not just punishing them for heat.

Because giving the IS inferior versions of Clan equipment and bringing the Clans up to 'full strength' is what Clanners call 'balance'.
