This is have VERY little performance impact on anyone with a dedicated GPU.
There are only 24 mechs in a match, and of those many already have 2K textures, and most that don't are 1K. These textures are loaded at match start, so there's no texture streaming issues like you can run into with say Fallout/Skyrim and very high res textures. The actual VRAM requirements will go up, but still not by a lot because again - there just aren't many mechs on the field. The only people who this would actually impact are those running integrated GPU's with limited VRAM, MAYBE very low end 1gb cards - and those people, of course, can just turn down their texture resolution in the graphics settings to end up with better performance than before.

It's not increasing the install footprint by 6GB, it's replacing the existing textures with new ones. The new ones will be bigger, and there is a new map, game mode, and mech in there too, but the actual install should only be portion of that larger.

yes it truely is hell. and thats the better isp. the other isp has a dns server that crashes every 2 weeks. they claim 4mbps but its more like 1mbps we had it for a year before we decided to change over. my current connection is 12mpbs with a 60 gig cap, and thats $80 bucks. no netflix, no steam, its pretty much 2007 around here.
That's horrible. My $56/mo connection is 25mb down/5mb up and fully uncapped, and I'm unhappy with that! We're streaming HD video somewhere in my home pretty much 24/7.
God... you'd have to have... cable.
Commercials! Oh, sweet jesus, you'd have to see commercials. Gross.
You poor *******.

Well, MWO's patcher aside, Steam doesn't do that thankfully.

Try 30+ GB for Star Citizen, and then another 30+ GB for the PTU. Whee!

It isn't an improvement. The textures we have now are high-res enough that you won't be able to tell the difference. At all. This is nothing but an inconvenience for no reason.

Hello,
Famous? Yes/No, depends who you ask.
Been bugging PGI about this for 2 years? Yes.
With a good amount of player support for it also? Yes.

Currently, mechs use 0.5k, 1k, and 2k textures (/rgb/diffuse maps/etc), but it's inconsistent. Some mechs are all 2k, others... Not.
I find this is highly visible with the hotrod paint: put it on some mechs, and the flames are slick and smooth. Put it on others? Pixels, pixels everywhere!
All will be checked on that patch day.

This is objectively wrong. Look at this banshee and highlander comparison with Hotrod. One mech has 1k textures, the other has 2k. Are you saying you honestly can't see the difference???

He's not saying he can't see the difference, he's saying its more important to pretend he cant if it means he can ***** about it on the internets, because he, like a not insignificant chunk of posters here, is a petulant ungrateful man child who constantly ******* about how bad the game is and then ******* even more when ever PGI attempts to fix it.

Well here is a checklist for all of you to do:
- How much storage space do you have left where you have MWO stored?
- How long does it take for you to install the game itself now?
- Can your computer handle much better visual graphics (graphics card, ram, processor)?
- Lastly ask yourself if these are going to be worth it, especially with a monthly new mech pack?
For me:
- Im good, plenty of space.
- Took me 30 minutes to an hour depending on streaming and downloading through out the house.
- Should be good on all of these with a new graphics card this past November.
- Is it worth it? Not sure I hope they are great looking but sometimes things get screwed up by just one pixel.
1.2 Terabytes. Less than 10 minutes.
You better believe it will be worth it. It's high past time PGI let enthusiasts that have good rigs see pretty mechs.
