ECM is not as good as it used to be. I think PGI has it about right, matter of fact I'm not sure what I'd suggest for them to change.

If anything... I think PGI should consider increasing the power BAP has against ECM. I wish there was a way to see just how many mechs take BAP. I use it on my certain LR mechs.

My problem with the current ECM is that it is now being used more as a personal than a team tool.

I've always felt that if ECM is going to work a a bubble, then BAP should do the same thing.

I'd be okay with BAP/CAP working in a 90-120 degree cone, negating ECM in that cone out to the maximum sense range. I mean it's a sensor probe, it should be directional.

If ECM worked the same way I'd agree. BAP is supposed to be (at least in terms of MWO and how it's been designed) a counter to ECM.

I see ECM more as an localized area jamming, so a bubble so to speak, but could be countered by a 90-120 degree cone active probe. Naturally the lighter the mech, the bigger active probe cone I would give. This would also give a reason to carry both ECM and BAP/CAP, as ECM put into ECCM mode would work as a localized counter jamming field.

what if they combined with like 360 retention module to sacrifice a module slot in order to obtain a 360 bubble...?

just trying to come up with ways to expand the whole role warfare ideology and come up with some more uses and applications for modules (or come up with new modules)

Can we not just bring in the MW4 mechanics? ECM prevents you from picking up his mech (and only his mech) on radar until he is within 50% of your sensor range. While BAP allows you to pick up an ECM mech at 67% of your sensor range (and increases your sensor range by 20%).

If ECM simply made red doritos into yellow doritos while still not allowing them to be targetable, I'd be fine with it. That being said, ECM is much tamer these days than it was in the beginning. For the most part, the only time that I see it is on a Douche Cat, Douche Raven (it's always a Douche Raven), a Douche Cheeter, or a Douche Bug. And, those douche terds only ever use it so that they can pointlessly play in the back and snipe while their teams get butchered.

If a mech is behind you you're not going to know it's there ECM or not anyway. Unless you wall hack / aimbot bro?

Lights can light you up from outside of your 750m sensor range to the same effect.

thats not a ECM issue, thats nobody keeping an eye out issue

also, if you are trying to target or find someone with ECM (especially in the Bog), put a TAG on and sweep it around a few times, it lights them up nicely like a spotlight

Hello all:

I don't find ECM that much of a problem since the range was reduced. There are counters to it, Narc and Bap. Only a few mechs can carry ECM. So if you just can't spare any tonnage for anything except weapons, then heavy and assault mechs should pair up with a light or medium mech and protect one another. Its called a teamwork module and doesn't weigh anything.

So you either stick to the big guys, or run in something that isn't as easily ambushed by a single light.

If you're a Catapult with nothing but LRMs for example, you can be damned well sure that if a light sees you alone, he's going to do his best to score that solo kill on you.

It is, and the best way to make sure you have a counter to ECM, us to carry that counter yourself. And really 1.5t for BAP or 1t for CAP is well worth the investment just for the extra sensor range and paper doll info speed alone.

It's a lot like whinnying about LRM's, bring AMS, it doesn't do much, but it saves some of your armour, and a lot of mechs using AMS together destroies LRM salvos.

ECM depends on the map, the opponents, and how many people have it.

It's not a problem. Sometimes it works well, other times it doesn't matter. That's called: it's balanced.

My current thoughts on ECM ... I have none. It is no longer end all be all. It is either balanced or under powered ... considering lore wise it acts more balanced because lore wise it prevented any shared information, but IFF and all that still worked for you and your mech it just was not shared through out your team. ECM also affected its own users in preventing information being passed from one person to the other not just the enemy.

ECM is similar to stealth heroes in MOBAs. They're pug stompers and crap all over new players because they don't know what to do against them. Once those ECM 'Mechs (or stealth heroes in MOBAs) are being fielded against more experienced players, they suddenly become a lot less amazing.

The result is a pretty split opinion of how "OP" that stuff actually is.

Imho.

That's an absolutely terrible comparison for multiple reasons, a major one being that you don't respawn in MWO while you do in DOTA-likes.

It shouldn't even be a team tool in the first place because that's A-ECM territory.
