Its not just one more DHS, its one more DHS in the engine's slot. The bigger engine allows for better twisting and keeping up with the team. No matter the build, Stalkers tend to run hot without energy heat quirks. That is why the 4n is better at using Laser, which is what most people use for meta stalkers.
I've I had a 5s, I'd run it like this and chain fire those 10s

And it's a system being developed by PGI, which inherrently means it'll need at least 4 patch cycles to be workable.
and then it wont work. it will take an additional 4 cycles of failed bug fixing before they decide to revert back to the old system.

So rare, I never found the pop tart era to be bothersome.
But you are also forgetting that SRM hit reg was ****, so it was a complete a total crap shot that once you closed range if you would be able to do enough damage to take them out before they got you.

In fact, LPL are one of my favorite primary weapons in the game...simply because you don't have to boat the **** out of them to get good results with their quick burn-time and high damage.

The poptart pinpoint front loaded damage meta was the most boring **** ever, it ruined multiplayer in mechwarrior 4 and made me quit mwo for entirely the months it reigned.

I enjoyed it, there was defiantly required a certain amount of skill to hit a moving target with PPC/Guass or PPC/AC5 while you are moving and jumping at the same time. Much more skill than the current Laser Vomit meta does. The biggest issue with the PopTart era was that it was too dominant. Like I said Laser's were subpar at the time, Hit Reg was crap with SRM's so there was no real hard counter to good players even once you closed. OF coure the problem is now PGI and good part of the player base is completely against having Jump Sniping being viable except on a few sub par mechs (Vindicator, Nova...)

From the builds he posted, he is simply using the wrong equipment on his mechs. Plus the 5s doesnt run meta builds as well as the N.

I loved the poptart meta! It allowed brawlers to wreck the poptarts. Now that lases are so powerful, they function at all ranges.

No it didn't, lasers and srms had awful hitreg at the time if you dared to have anywhere over 100 ping.

Which is half of why the poptart meta was popular, because projectile weapons [gauss, ppcs, acs] were the only ones that would reliably do damage if the weapon appeared to connect to a target, even if you had ungodly 300+ Australian ping.

When I say "I do poorly with laser vomit", I mean that I get outside of my efficiency zone of 100-150 damage/kill, as I find the burn time detrimental to my preferred play style.
