AMS is a cost effective counter measure.
Like he said - if you could take a few tons of counter measures that would protect against lasers - you would. It also doesn't make sense at all that only one weapon is so hard countered by, not 1, not 2, but 3 measures (Radar derp, ECM, AMS), it would make sense to have counters to both lasers and ballistics as well.
What it would result in is tankier mechs and longer brawling, a thing that majority here are shouting for, because it does feel like all mechs fall too quick.
TTK has nothing to do with countermeasures. An autoaim, beyond visual range weapon, got counters.
And i can assure you, the rare times i even run a scrow with NARC, 2t Narc ammo, 4 LRM10 + 8t LRM ammo, in open maps like polar or alpine, i just poke, narc, hide, neutralize my target, rinse and repeat. if he's in ECM cover, i'll poke again and narc the ECM. and start hammering the ECM narced target. game over.
But if there is a 3AMS guy down there, will be better to call him a target or waste a load of lrms to try to take him out. or if the enemy deathball mechs do run 1AMS each, i'll be less useful. like a dedicated slow and short ranged brawler in open maps
LRM5s are way better than 10, 15 and 20s. the only downside about running 5s instead 15s is that AMS can efficently neutralize em. And we all already know the brightside of LRM-5s vs LRM15 and 20.
to sum it, slow brawler in open maps sucks, dedicated lrm boat against loads of AMS too.
