Honestly, high jump mobility will probably be it's big saving grace.
Personally, I'd appreciate the Huntsman, as it fills a niche similar to the Hunchback- a solid chassis that's relatively slow compared to it's fellows, but with excellent pod capacity and a wide variety of options to equip that tonnage. The only real change will be replacing it's A-pods, but we've seen that before- and of course, it's jump-capable. A solid-looking workhorse medium, IMHO.

Honestly, piloting this thing should be a riot. And since we buy stompy robots for the sake of fun, I figure dollar for dollar the Viper will probably be more fun to play than many other options. Hell, it'll probably be more fun than the Kodiak, since you won't have a giant target on your back.

10 tons lighter, carries an appropriate amount of firepower.
You're comparing it to the cheetah, so you've already accepted my argument that its undergunned, even for a 40 tonner.
It has more firepower than a cheetah and mroe armor then a cheetah, and its harder to neuter.
*shrugs*
But we don't care about meta right? So who ******* cares. Now everyone can fill in the 40 tonner slot on their drop deck.

Meh, if we were going to do useless and fun, the fire moth would be better IMO.

Uziel - what exactly does this do that other 50-55 ton mechs dont?
Bushwhacker - see Uziel
Akuma - thanks for the Atlas-Banshee
Madcat mk II - decent
Blood Asp - If the Turkina can't ridge hump as im told it'd suck at than the Asp is even worse
Hellhound - Stormcrow still better
Gullotine - oh hi grasshopper clone!
IICs - not gonna run through all of them but except ok to meh as IS variants go.
So what maybe the Mk II will have an impract but beyond nostaglia none of the mechs you listed will cause any 'revolutionary' changes to MWO as it stands either.
We're at the point in MWO where mechy-mon doesnt really offer us something we don't already have in some form already and getting upset at mech choices is just plain foolish. Your choices don't offer anything more than the Viper
Oh please you cant pretend that any of those mechs wouldnt add WAY more to the game than a ******* viper would.
Uziel, a jumping gunboat with lots of hardpoints on the IS side. Our current 50 tonners are either battletech special mechs with too mixed hardpoints to work or they exclusively boat one thing, ballistic or energy or missile.
Bushwhacker, see Uziel
Akuma, a jumping atlas.
Madcat MK II - fast moving assault gunboat, no other assault mech in game does what it does with its speed
Blood Asp - Its bad because the turkina? The turkina is bad because it goes the same speed as a direwolf but with worse hardpoints
Hellhound is a battlemech, your argument is moot.
Guillotine is a 70 ton missile/energy boat. The grasshopper is pretty much pure energy, your argument is moot.
IICs, aside from probably all ending up glass cannons because CLANS CANNOT HAVE QUIRKS, would wipe the floor. Suggesting anything other than that is just stupid and you know it.

I would have supported the kingfisher before the viper. That mech might be boring but it at least has the pod space for more than 1 loadout and is an ecm assault, and we need clan assaults.

Spare me the patronizing lecture. Im a game designer, I can tell when something is going to crash and burn. If you kids want to swallow whatever **** PGI feeds you thats your prerogative. Viper's just as **** as half the other clan mechs, pretend it away if you want, but when you and everyone else starts talking yourselves into thinking the mech wont be the piece of garbage then you're the only ones losing objectivity. I honestly dont care that its not the MK II, we accepted it was not coming any time soon a long time ago. We still argue it should because it ******* should, but we know it wont. This isnt about that, this is PGI acting like they can feed us whatever **** they want and everyone's apparently too stupid to notice.
FTFY, I dont give a **** about meta. We shouldnt get the viper because it doesnt do anything, not because it isnt meta. Unless the meta shifts to single ultra autocannon 5s or small LRM launchers the viper will continue to not do anything because its builds are the same no matter what because you literally cannot fit anything else on them.
I kinda make money off being an arbiter on things that are fun or not...
Every trash mech PGI releases is a good mech PGI isnt releasing. How many good mechs are down the road that could have come sooner if PGI just doubled down and added them to the game? The uziel, bushwhacker, akuma, mk ii, blood asp, hellhound, guillotine, the other IICs, etc. Each **** mech they release is a step closer to killing the game. They dont have the 5-7 years they are pretending they have. If the game isn't up to snuff (i.e. at least close to what they promised in october of 2011) then the game will never be what they promised, or in other words, its dead in the water. I kinda like the game, but if you enjoy injecting cancer straight into it then enjoy your 40 tonner, and while you're at it, go beg russ for the flea and firemoth, im sure they will revolutionize MWO.
And here we go.
Seriously. Stick your head in the sand. You against the world. Listen to know one, you have all the answers. Except you don't.

QA doesn't count.
You get points for that. Thats a good insult, but you should know someone of my station can't afford QA staff. If I make a game, I usually get help, and we do everything, including testing.

But you DO care, because the moment someone mentioned the MK II you had a stroke.

Uziel - 4E, 1M, 1B.
OR 2E 1M 2B,
OR 1M 2E.
WOW AMAZE
Bushwhacker
3B, 1E 2M (holy awesomeness!!!!)
3B, 2E, 3M (better but still.. too many B hardpoints)
1B, 1E, 2M (lol)
Akuma - jumping atlas or Banshee.. Still gonna get it's JJs removed and be a 90 ton Atlas or Banshee
MadCat mK II - battlemech is changeable and it's decent buuut
Asp - yeah.. better than MK II
Hellhound mech or not stormcrow still gonna be better, 3E 2M or less doesn't impress that's vindicator level. least viper can BOAT
Guillotine oh my bad! I didn't realize 1 LL, 4 MLs SRM6 was SO different from 1LL, 4 MLs LRM5! taught me brah. Guillotine boating missiles when it replaces that LL with a PPC.. or an ER LL and case, or slaps in a Targeting comp over 3 variants, SO MISSILEY

Wow! Amazing! You have a contrary position to my argument and suddenly mechs that on any other day you and everyone else would say were great are crap, because god forbid we get those instead of the blessed viper. Conveniently leaves out battlemech hardpoint inflation too!

can you show me where i did? cause im positive i was in the "not right now category" and was skeptical of the whole thing in the start of it. Where i admitted i was incorrect, then i ended up being right as to the last Town Hall via Russ after he finally took a stance.
If it was 3066 or whatever timeline era i wouldnt have cared. PGI makes mechs, i go; do i want this? no? okay skipping.

You miss the point every one of those mechs while ok in some form are trumped by something we already have, Uziel would be trumped by practically any Shadow hawk, or if looking for 50 tons the Enforcer, slimmer profile same firepower level (missing the 1M but wow who cares) without having a torso cockpit
Whacker is gonna be a shadow hawk (whichever is the 3B variant) clone but with stalker-itis without the benefit of raised weapons
Akuma offers very little Banshees and Atlas's don't and will fade out once the new mech smell goes away
Asp/MkII literally only giving us a 64kph mech with tonnage for guns hence the Asp preference.
Hellhound - more lackluster than a Nova or Stormcrow
Guillotine literally grasshopper.
Do you know what those mechs offer? nostalgia. People like Uziels and Wackers and Hellhounds because of MW4 and MW3, MkII is similar, Guillotine was a matter of liking SRMs over LRMs. And I will never fault anyone wanting said mechs but acting like they are some holy grail while the Viper is some POS to be shunned is just as dumb
So at least the Viper fills a hole in the game (like the MKII or Asp would) and it fits nostalgia for some.
