I run a stock+ DRG-1C with XL300, AC10, LRM10, 4ML. It's fun for pubbing, albeit a little underwhelming. Most of my Centurions are mixed as well.

I've had some success with SRM+Pulse combos on the AWS-8V. Might swap out the LPL for a PPC just for giggles.

Most chassis just aren't well-suited to it, lacking either the tonnage or the hard points to pack a decent loadout or having unfortunate geometry (looking at you, Orion). Unless you want to count ML/SRM/AC20 brawlers as "mixed", which I wouldn't.

But it's the only way I could make Onion 2C to work decently, using the biggest alpha possible.

Oh for sure, even the ON1-K makes for a good mini-Atlas, I just don't think I would count those builds as mixed.

UAC-10 + SRM builds would though, since the ranges and weapon mechanics are different enough.

all balance aside, the module system penalizes builds that cant boat weapons.

really its almost as if PGI' wants us to only run one trick ponies.

It's too bad. It would be much better if both quirks and modules were on a component basis. Like, say if a CN9-AL only had LL quirks on the right arm, and not for the CT. And in a similar matter I would be nice if weapon modules were on a component basis too. Perhaps the weapon modules would need to go down in price then (since you would need many more), but still, you would not get sort of penalized by running mixed builds like you do now.

It's not about hard, its about usefullness. mixed setups with speed differeng wepaons would require different amounts of crosshairleads. And that can't happen at once, so any mix is kinda reducing your abilities to quickly strike hard.

If 1 player encounters 12 enemy players simultaneously, that 1 lone rambo player SHOULD die, regardless of the mech being used by that rambo (e.g. Atlas shouldn't be magically immune). It completely invalidates the point of teamwork if you can just solo the enemy team by yourself. If you want to take on the red team, you need the blue team to come with you.

My current 3rd Ebon Jaguar build.

1 Ultra 10, 1 ERPPC, and 5 ERSLasers.

I'll be honest though, I do like most mechs to have common loadouts. It is just easier to control the fire groups and often more effective. Still, mixed builds are always fun from time to time if you have one you like.

Sure, but since I am too old and too provocatively ignorant to figure out how to use more than two of my mouse buttons, such builds tend to be rather limited.

I use mouse + f + g. I'm far to lazy to make a template for MWO.

I use a Dire Wolf with a LRM5 and one ton of ammo, along with a bunch of lasers and two Guass Rifles. Without fail, someone always chuckles about the "LRM Direwolf" because obviously having one LRM 5 with 1 ton of ammo means it's my primary weapon system and I never use the dual guass, 4 er mediums, and 2 er larges that it's packing.

I saw some tool in a Cicada running an AC/2 + PPC build the other night. He was obliterated...

one of my most successful builds of all time was a direwolf "mixed" build , not uncommon to see 2 of the 3 weapon types but all 3 is a death sentence, because srms dont really play well with ballistics or anything at all.

Always getting burned down by high alpha laser try-hards. Its making it impossible to skill up mixed hard point builds.

Did I hear they are trying to fix this issue?

Do you know what really pisses off a high alpha laser try-hard? A well placed and timed artillery strike that the RNG Gods decided to bless with a head shot. Expletives galore is what I have seen. <maniacal Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image>

I use a lot of mixed builds. either laser/missile or laser/ballistics. missile /ballistic I avoid though. generally though I try to stick with three firing groups (4 sometimes for chain firing), usually it's 2 for lasers and the third for missle/ballistic. I will toss a LRM on my slow mechs just so they can have something to do before they can get close enough to use their real weapons. I even did it on my locusts on conquest in the days of smaller maps and slower caps so I could cap and still be able to shoot at something while capping :)

only pure laser vomit mechs I have are the ones that offer nothing else but lasers to vomit for their hardpoints - crabs for instance.

They were all 10M behind me because Atlas. I rarely lone rambo unless I'm in a clear flank position at a safe range.

Turn the corner, 23 multicoloured sticks of light burn into my CT and pop. It was 3 mechs too, not 12.

My best mech is a Timberwolf mixed build. Button 1 for UAC/10, button 2 for ERML and button 3 (on the side of my G500s) for SRM6.

Chain fire the lasers while firing the UAC then if anyone gets too close they get a volley of SRMs. Best mech I own by a long way.

3 weapon type loads work for SRMs but not so much for LRMs due to the heavier tonnage requirements for the LRMs to be useful enough to justify taking them.

All I almost exclusively see is all energy builds. Or some Dakka ones as well Yeah I know they are so easy to run. But damn cant some guys do something, anything else. Or is it to hard???

On my Griffins I use MPLs + SRMs (and ECM + 2x LRM 15 on my 2N), so no meta at all. They're very fun.
I also use ACs + Lasers on most of my Marauders and Cataphracts.
I'm having a lot of fun with my Blackjack BJ-3 sniper with 2 ER-PPCs and 2 MLs (can't wait to test the new buff to PPCs with the April patch).
I use pure laser builds only on my Battlemasters 2C (LLs and MLs) and 1G (LPLs and MPLs). On 1S I have 2 x LRM15 + 4 medium lasers.

Ah, I also love my Oxide with 4 x SMR4, while I'm still trying to figure out how to use my other two jenners (D and F variants).
Right now the only weapon I've not used in a build is the Gauss cannon.

So yes, something different from the meta is possible and fun, at least in my tier group.

No offense, dude, but that's just slow reaction time on your part. It takes around 200 damage to plow through an Atlas CT. I've made plenty of wrong turns and come out with some orange armor and a stripped arm, but just CT popping means YOU goofed.

Lasers have burn time. Spread their burn.

This power draw system or whatever it is can't come soon enough. I went round a corner in my Atlas and ran into the opposing team. Before I could twist my entire CT had been melted by vomit and I end the match with 21 damage ggclothes.

I do not see the difference by being wiped out by an Atlas alpha. It happened to my with my Blackjack recentily: I went round the corner and I bumped on an Atlas that pressed the Alpha button and killed me istantly...

I have a few mixed build mechs.

A Jagermech with 4 LRM5, 2 AC/5 and 2 Med Lasers. It does really well at any range and in any engagement.

I also have an old Highlander packing a Gauss, 3 Med Lasers, an LRM 10 and 2 SSRM2s. When the Highlander first came out, I reached top of the leaderboards or close with it. It was an amazingly fun mech. A LOT more fun to play than 1 button wonders. I really wish the game would go back to making builds like it viable instead of rewarding boating and only boating.

Hell, wasn't one of the selling points of this that it would avoid past game boating issues?

Anyway... I also have a Thunderbolt with 2 ERPPCs, 3 Med Pulse and 2 MGs. Again, good for sniping, still able to defend itself in close range.

But none of these ever do as well as my Pulse Boating Battlemaster, Thunderbolt or Grasshopper.

Shame, really. If people actually tried mixed builds, they'd realize how much fun they are. 1 button wonders play like any other lame shooter.

Rambo's should die but should they die in less than a second to everyone opposing hitting one specific location simultaneously? That's where I say no. TTK should be balanced better.

TTK shouldn't be balanced around 12v1 or else it would take an eternity to kill even the weakest mechs in 1v1 or other small fights.
