Ast/hvy Looking For A Light Mech
#1

With the current climate, current patch and meta.
I was thinking of dipping my toes into using lights, for variety. Can you fellow mechwarriors give me some suggestions to help me ease into using these little fast guys?
Specifically a mech I should try.
*Side note I have been reading both mechspecs and metamech for build suggestions.

Other than that, it depends on your playstyle, e.g.
- the Raven and Adder make great snipers. Just load up ppcs/erlls, poke, vanish and repeat.
- chassis like the Arctic Cheater, Fire Starter, Mist Lynx, Spider are speedy ankle-biters, flanking, squirreling and generally being a nuisance to the enemy.
- Then there are slow lights like the Urbanmech, Kit Fox which are more like mediums, but with less guns and armor. They're usefull as bodyguards for a larger target, e.g. to keep that enemy light off your teams DWF. Kit Fox deserves special mention for the triple AMS arm.
Special mention goes to the Cicada, which is a medium but plays more like a light.
Also the Commando is hit and miss, some people tend to do good in it, but most find it is in a bad state right now.

I'll second locust, the current locust trial is an excellent build and will let you dip a toe without spending any cbills. You also accrue mech experience using it, though you'll have to buy the chassis to spend it

Easy mode: ACH, Jenner IIC
Hard mode: Kit Fox, Adder, Mist Lynx

Jenner IIc - better customization than ACH, available laser and missile builds, but also more fragile (its a Jenner)
Jenner 7F - great agility but fragile (slightly better weapon placement than in Clan Jenners)
Locust 1E - godlike agility accel/decel/speed superb weapon placement (high mounts in arms), but extremely fragile and no JJ

Firestarter - fast, maneuverable laser mech
Wolfhound - Similar to the firestarter, tankier, but lacks hoverjets. looks cool though.
Jenner - just got gifted the Oxide and man it's a blast. D and F are pretty fun too. CT hitbox is kinda big though/bit of a mixed blessing.
Arctic Cheetah and Jenner IIC are also very mean mechs when I fight them, but I haven't tried them because they're filthy clan mechs.

Personally I prefer wolfhounds to firestarters due to their toughness. Also STD engine wolf hounds are hilarious but firestarters are the better mech IMO.
I'm also a huge fan of the jenners but they aren't exactly newbie friendly.

Since you are an Assault pilot, why not use CUAC20 Adder? Pocket Assault, I like to call it.

Also, Locust-1V is sturdier than la cucaracha.
